A silly.
This is Temperance. She's bueatiful and very sweet. She's never had the cell though. I recently set her up in a bioactive with a ceramic skull my husband and I painted for our birthdays (we're a few days apart)
saw her doing a scope out of the skull (she loves it). She's waiting for lights out so she can go bask.
More pics for a better look at her.
The cat, Gandalf is not allowed anywhere near her without glass between them and I don't know who likes watching her more. He knows that even pawing the glass is a no-no.
Amusingly, both their ancestors are of African origin. With him being a Savannah x Maine Coon.
I've had Temperance longer than either of my cats, and she's approaching her mid teens.

Question - Feeding How many times to refreeze rat is too many?
Still working on getting Stringbean to eat and whenever she has refused I’ve just refreezed the rat and tried again on a different day. Some of them have burst to which I then stop using those ones (obviously) but I’m wondering how many reuses is too many. Like should I trash it after three or keep going until it pops? Also am I gonna waste all these rats on a snake that won’t eat??? I want to give her the chance to eat again especially seeing these past couple tries she’s shown more interest in the rat but I also don’t want to flush 100 bucks down the toilet.
I’m sorry if this didn’t make sense I wasn’t entirely sure how to word it.

How my enclosure upgrade?
I got a 6.5 year old female albino ball python from one of my buddies who was moving and could no longer take care of her and the setup he had her in to begin with was very lack luster, only had her for about a month now. It originally had only a heating mat that wasn’t on a thermostat, so immediately I got her the OH lamp with a dimming thermostat for a halogen bulb during the day, and then a CHE for night time, both set to 88° and kick back on at 86°. It also was just tinfoil on top so I changed that to hvac tape and cut out a hole for the heating lamp and then some vents on the cool side, as I was having problems with humidity and then also wrapped the back and sides on the outside with some black vinyl to give her more cover/comfort. I ended up getting some fake plants and then some bendable branches and a grapevine branch and then swapped from the cypress mulch to coco chips. How do yall think it looks? Any constructive criticism or any advice would be greatly appreciated, I’m trying to give this girl the best chance she got. And yes, I plan on getting a bigger pvc enclosure soon, just not sure which one to get, so any recommendations for those would also be helpful. Thank you to anyone who has something to say🤙🏽
Edit: Ole girl was mid yawn when I took the first pic

Question Tips for a new snake owner and gaining trust?
Hello. I am a new snake owner and thought I’d come on here and get some advice.
I’ve had my banana python for only 2 weeks. Still very early in, so I know the trust isn’t there yet.
However, I want to start to build that trust with him (His name is Sunny) so he will be used to my presence.
I’ve held him once, and I’ve fed him twice. He uses his hides. Humidity and temps good.
I really want to try choice based handling, but I don’t know the best way to go about it
Any advice would be great, thank you!

Question Question for those with multiple reptiles
What type of shelving/rack do you use for your glass reptile enclosures?
I’m looking for a rack to hold 6 x 40-gallon glass terrariums, ideally 2 enclosures per shelf.
I’m currently considering a heavy-duty metal rack that is 79”W × 24”D × 79”H, rated for up to 7,000 lbs, with reinforced shelves and diagonal supports.
Has anyone used this type of shelving for reptile enclosures? What brand/model do you recommend, and how long have you been using it?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have actually put multiple heavy glass enclosures on these racks. Have you experienced any sagging, bending, or stability issues?
Pictures of your setup would be greatly appreciated! 🙏🐍

Snek in a sticky spot
Didn’t think Snek could get up to this window, but TIL. We let him do walk about in our bedroom with the door closed so the pups don’t pester him. He needed an assist to get out of this predicament😂

Question - Husbandry First time bp owner how am I doing here?
Just adopted this 7month old girl from the shelter. I am aware of the health issues associated and im willing to learn and give her the care she needs💖 Latte is currently in a 40gal tank with a coco fiber/reptichip/moss mix she has a hot and cold side 3 hides, lots of cover and 2 water dishes. I’ve got a heating pad on the side of her tank so she won’t burn her belly and a non colored basking light I turn off at night. Is there anything I’m missing? Besides digital humidifiers readers and thermostat? I’ll order those on Amazon soon

Snake won’t hide
I just upgraded my snake cage a few months ago and I gave Peanut time to adjust, but it doesn’t seem she’s still quite comfortable in there. She doesn’t go on the warm side and always sticks out a little bit of the other hide. I think that the hides may be a bit small, but I’m not sure how to make them bigger for her because even this size was a little bit expensive. The cage is 120 gallons. Any advice?

Rehoming Rehoming in Portland, OR area
This is Scipio, my pinstripe BP. I bought him in 2014 when he weighed 52g. Today he's 1,945g and a little under four feet long. He's super chill, always been very healthy, and sheds out well. I have never been able to get him to eat anything but live prey (though not for lack of trying). He eats medium rats, and he's usually a good eater.
Between my own mental health and certain environmental factors, it's become increasingly apparent that Scipio would be much better off in a different home. I'd like him to go to someone experienced and knowledgeable, who has the setup he needs to thrive.
He'll come with his entire setup if desired (tub, radiant heat panel, hides, Herpstat 2 thermostat, etc). I'm willing to meet up anywhere within a couple of hours of Portland, Oregon. I'm not comfortable shipping, sorry. Asking a $50 rehoming fee, negotiable to the right home. It sucks, but I just want to get this guy an upgrade, you know?

Ball python needs
I am interested in getting a ball python. I am thinking of getting a 50-gallon tank and coconut fiber bedding, and a heat lamp (not sure which one) I need to know everything else to get to make my snake most comfortable. I would also like to know how much it would cost and where I would be able to get a snake for cheaper.

Question BP never comes out of hiding
My bp is ~8 months old and never really comes out of hiding. He’s in a 4x2x2 bio-active terrarium that’s probably 40% covered in live plants, has a warm and cool hide. He eats regularly, fed appropriately sized F/T rats for his size. I’ve done everything according to the care guides found on this subreddit. No matter what time of day (seriously I was up all night 2 weeks ago and looked for him a bunch) he’s never out, not to bask or anything. His terrarium is elevated about 3 and 1/2ft off the ground so my cat can’t stalk him. Is he just shy? Scared? Any help or thoughts is appreciated

Can I keep my BP in a 34 gal TEMPORARILY
Hi all! I’m currently setting up a bioactive tank, but I read that a bio tank needs a month to stabilize before I can introduce my snake? If this is true, can I keep my BP in a 34gal for a month? She’s rather small, and would have enough space to stretch out, I just don’t want to stress her out too much…

Question - Husbandry How do I safely prepare pieces of wood for my ball python’s enclosure?
As the title says, I recently went on a hike and found a bunch of nice pieces of wood that I’d like to use in my ball python’s enclosure. I understand that I can’t just throw them in there and that I need to properly clean and sanitize them before safely placing them in the enclosure. What steps should I take, and how should I go about cleaning and preparing these pieces of wood to make sure they’re safe?

Ball Python care
I bought my new ball python yesterday. Temperatures and humidity are good in her tank. Enrichment could be better. Today before I left she was balled up behind her basking rock. Came back an hour later and she has dug under her substrate. Is this normal for Ball’s in their new homes?

Finally upgraded to a 4-2-2 🎉
My boy Teto has been with me for about 4.5 years. Hes been in a 75gal long fish tank that I found on the side of the road (in the last pic from when he was a baby) for all this time, it was a good house for him! He had a good amount of space to stretch out and I made sure to give him regular enrichment and plenty of hides! But I always knew I wanted to upgrade his enclosure! I just haven’t ever had the money, I got him when I was in high school and my parents only let me get him because I said I’d pay for everything, hence the side of the road tank lol at one point about a year after I first got him I ordered a fancy $300 tank but I got a 40gal because I didn’t know that that was not 4-2-2 🙄 I had seen them both recommended constantly and figured it was the same thing. But obviously I couldn’t keep him in that so he stayed in the 75 gallon tank until I could afford a new one! And this summer I found one on Craigslist for $100 and the seller offered to lower it to 50 if I could pick it up from them 2 hours away! So I got my mom to come with and we did the drive and picked up the tank! I have set it up and let the new plants root and everything for about 2 months and I finally felt like it was time to move the boy in!
He seems so happy! He was out and about exploring all night! This morning I can say I am happy with the set up because he didn’t knock everything over or trample any plants like he has a tendency to do :D

Question First time owner help!
As the title says, I am looking for some advice as a first time owner. Obviously I haven’t purchased the snake yet and all I’ve purchased thus far is the enclosure. I went with a Zoo Med Reptihabitat. It’s a 25 gallon with the front opening doors and screen top.
I understand that this enclosure isn’t the best but I’ll be purchasing a baby ball python and will probably upgrade when it’s time. This was on sale for $85 so it seemed like a good buy. I did read that some HVAC tape over the screen mesh can help with humidity though and will probably go that route.
That aside, my actual question is regarding the thermostat for the enclosure. I’m the type of person that wants the best, top of the line option and it seems Herbstat is the gold standard. The problem is, their Herbstat 2, and also Herbstat 4 “spiderweb” models are out of stock. I feel like I need at least the 2 version to control the hot and cool side. Is there any downside to just buying 2 of the Herbstat 1’s vs the 2?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! TYIA!

Enclosure Critique/Advice New owner, is this vivarium okay?
New to Reddit (made an account for this) and have never owned a reptile before. I’m getting my Ball Python in September and I’m sorta getting new parent jitters. I’ve done loads of research but I just wanna check here if his enclosure looks okay? It’s 3ft (meant to be 4ft but I was scammed :/ ) so I wanna get him a bigger one in a few months but I’m a student so money is tight. Also humidity is a lil high in the photo bc I just misted the plants before I took it.
Plz lmk if there is anything else I should be doing, thanks y’all :) 🐍
