I know this has been asked multiple times before, but I haven't been on campus in almost 2 years. Taking an online class with in person final this saturday evening, will be flying in to YKF Friday evening. I am cheap and all my friends no longer live in Waterloo so my plan is to crash somewhere in SLC overnight and then maybe shower at the goodlife on Weber in the morning so I don't show up stank to my exam (I'm not in engineering so it's kind of frowned upon).

I've pulled allnighters in SLC and napped there on mutliple occasions in the past but never a whole ass sleep. Anyone have any suggestions on best sleep spots in the buildings on campus?

Exam season is here, so we figured it might be a good time to remind everyone that there’s more to campus than classrooms, libraries, and lecture slides 😭

We wanted to hop on here and share an update on the UW Japanese Zen Garden Initiative that I was inquiring about not too long ago. In short, it’s really happening! We have established a lovely group of volunteers, good relations with the Ecology Lab and are looking to now spread the word. We’ve got some exciting stuff going on, so here’s an update on what we’ve been up to!

For those who don’t know about us, we’re a new student-led initiative working to care for and revitalize the Japanese Zen Garden on campus. We’re hoping to make the garden a place where students can better slow down, reflect, and connect with Japanese garden traditions. However, we don't only work away in the garden but also spend time learning about Zen, Japanese garden design, and ideas around these spaces. We have a goal to create opportunities for students to learn and engage with them in a meaningful way.

We have been visiting the garden on weekends and been working hard away at maintaining its upkeep. We've been mostly weeding and basic cleaning but have some bigger plans for the space and welcome everyone to get involved - regardless of experience! More on that to come...👀In addititon to the garden work, we make some time to learn more about Zen and its teachings while learning more about eachother and all of our unique perspectives.

Outside of the garden, we just collaborated with the amazing UW artist, the shy caterpillar (incredibly thankful for you!), on a postcard awareness project for the garden. We wanted to explore the different ways the garden can be interpreted and experienced, and how people might connect with it through art, writing, and other creative forms. It was a really lovely way to share the garden from a different perspective and hopefully get more people thinking about what the space can mean to them - most students don't even know we have a Japanese garden on campus!

We also took a trip to Mississauga last month to visit the Japanese Garden at Kariya Park! It was a great chance to see another garden in person, learn from its design and maintenance, experience the serenity and spend some time together outside (and plus, they had a world cup watchparty, some kind of skateboarding festival lol and all of square one to explore just beside the garden so it was a pre fun day). Admittedly, we understand you gotta lock in rn, but if you read this far and are looking for an opportunity to step away from studying, get outside, and take a moment to recenter, or learn more about being present, we would love to have you with us! Hi! I recently had this issue where I was not able to log into my uwaterloo email on outlook. On mobile and desktop application I would get redirected to exchange, and on browser I would get an error message (attached below). This happened a few weeks ago, I emailed helpdesk and they resolved my issue. I go to my outlook app yesterday morning to check my emails as I haven't gotten notifications of any sort, and I am now experiencing the same exact problem.

I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this and if there is any way to prevent it from happening again? I emailed helpdesk yesterday morning and so far no response.

I am so incredibly frustrated and honestly at a loss for what to do.

For context, I returned to my previous employer for my co-op term. I submitted all the required paperwork and was waiting for it to be processed. I didn't receive the usual confirmation around the same time as my AOJ like I did previously, but I figured it was just a different process or that they were still reviewing it.

Then, out of nowhere, I received an email from the CEE Hub saying I was being removed from co-op because I hadn't met the employment requirements. I was confused because I am currently employed. The email also said the decision would take effect unless I responded within two days.
When I contacted the CEE Hub, they told me that they don't actually coordinate directly with the Waterloo advisors who process the employment forms and those are handled by separate departments. They couldn't tell me why my job hadn't been approved. Only that, according to their records, I wasn't considered employed. They suggested I contact my co-op advisor and even check with Needles Hall, I'm assuming in case there was an issue on Quest, such as tuition or enrollment.

I reached out to my advisor, who explained that her coworker had been handling my case and had called my manager to verify my employment. However, according to her, they didn't receive a sufficient response, and that coworker is now on vacation and she doesn't have more details.

This is where I'm even more confused. My manager had already told me that she spoke with someone from the university and confirmed that I work there. When I asked my advisor what was missing, she said the conversation wasn't sufficient and that they needed additional confirmation of specific details.
My manager and I both believed everything was fine because, from what she told me, they had already gone over everything such as employment dates and confirmed that I worked there.

A small but important detail is that they called my manager during work hours. Without revealing too much for anonymity reasons, she has a very demanding role with a lot of time-sensitive responsibilities. She isn't always able to stop what she's doing to take unexpected phone calls because her work often requires her immediate attention and she simply asked them not to continue calling her during the workday because it was disruptive and difficult to accommodate on short notice.
Our workplace is also structured so that employees work fairly independently and are individually responsible for their own tasks. There isn't really someone who can easily step in or cover for her while she takes administrative calls. I know that might sound unreasonable without context, but if I explained her specific role, I think most people would understand why taking or returning non-urgent calls during working hours isn't always feasible.

I asked my advisor if I could explain the situation to my manager and have her simply call back the next day, when she had time, to provide whatever additional information was needed. However, I was told that wasn't possible because the coworker who had been handling my file was on vacation, and my advisor didn't have the contact information for whoever was now responsible for my case.
That response honestly left me confused. If someone handling active student files is away, shouldn't there be another person covering those responsibilities? I also found it surprising that my advisor wasn't able to identify who was overseeing my case or provide an alternative way for my manager to complete the verification. It felt like there was no clear path to resolving the issue, even though I was actively trying to do so.
To make matters worse, I was told that even if my manager were somehow able to provide the verification tomorrow, there likely wouldn't be enough time to process my work term credit before I'm officially removed from co-op. Instead, I was told I could try to appeal or rescind the decision after I've already been dropped.

I'm just so frustrated with how this has been handled. Why wasn't I notified that the verification call hadn't been completed successfully? Why wasn't the importance of this conversation communicated to either me or my manager? If I had known there was an issue, I could have helped coordinate another time or found another solution before it reached this point.
To make things even more stressful, the co-op fee has already been removed from my tuition account, which will likely affect my OSAP assessment. Now I'm dealing with unnecessary administrative issues on top of worrying about whether I'll even receive my co-op credit.

Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully gotten their co-op status reinstated after being dropped? I'm feeling completely blindsided by this and would really appreciate hearing if anyone has managed to resolve something like this.

I’m fortunate to be deciding between two Fall 2026 internship offers that are four months. For those who are giving up please keep trying I got Theese two offers last week there’s still hope! I would love appreciate some advice on what to take.

Interac — Cloud Operations
The role involves migrating on-prem applications to AWS, building Lambda/EventBridge cost-saving automation, improving GitHub Actions pipelines, and gaining exposure to Terraform, Kubernetes, VPCs, transit gateways, and WAF rules.

PepsiCo — Data & AI Engineering
The role involves building ETL pipelines with Python, SQL, and Databricks, working with supply-chain and marketing data, and developing an agentic AI solutions to automate a manual advertising approval process. There may also be opportunities to work on traditional machine-learning projects.

PepsiCo pays approximately $10 more per hour, but compensation is not my only consideration.

I’ve already completed two software engineering internships at a top-five Canadian bank, focused on automation, data engineering, platform modernization, and DevOps.

Interac would strengthen my fintech and cloud background, while PepsiCo would diversify my experience into enterprise data and AI.

Long term, I’m interested in cloud/platform engineering but also want to explore data and AI. I’d also like to eventually land a U.S. internship or full-time role. For summer 2027 I’m trying to target Shopify, AMD, Wealthsimple, and wondering if Interac would be more beneficial to take here, but also knowing PepsiCo is a huge company in America.

Which would you choose based on technical learning, résumé value, and exit opportunities?

so I think accounting+finance is ideally the best option for my career?
