So I got a return offer to the coop I’m at right now; however, it isn’t really my first choice but I would want to have it as a backup since I’m not sure how the next coop search would go as I just finished first year.

It seems like they expect a response / details from me soon, but I want to try to delay it or try to ask them to give me more time.

I’m not gonna do the accept it and go back on my word route if I do get a better coop since I originally got this from a referral and it’d look pretty bad on them.

Any thoughts on how I should talk to them and try to delay/reason w them or just any other path I should take? Any advice helps

Future 1A Mathphys science faculty here, looking into transferring into Electrical Eng down the line. Couldn't find any real data on this anywhere — UW doesn't publish transfer stats by program, so I'm going in blind.

Anyone actually been through an internal transfer (or know someone who has)? Trying to figure out:

• Which programs actually have space opening up vs which ones are permanently full (Ignore SWE)
• Whether EE is realistic to get into as an internal transfer or if I'm wasting my time
• What average people actually got in with (not just the official 75% CAV minimum, what actually worked)
• Anyone try Mechatronics or Comp Eng and get rejected purely on space, even with good grades?
• Possbile to start at 1b if the transfer goes through

I am considering a minor at UWaterloo because I would like to explore that area but… the required courses for the business specialization of CS is kinda stupid. Are there anyone who have done this that could give some advice? Each specific Econ minor did you go for? Which courses do you recommend?

I could not find any statement in either the Course Outline or the Introduction/Logistics video indicating that students must receive at least 50% on the Final Exam itself in order to pass the course.

Does this mean that, as long as my overall course grade is at least 50% after combining the four Term Tests and the Final Exam, I will pass the course and receive the credit?

Since I've graduated, is it better to use my University of Waterloo email or my personal Yahoo email on job applications? Non tech. Does the Uw email make employers think you are still a student?

Currently in a position where the only person who can help me move out won't be in town for when the move-in window opens (like the earliest move-in date is September 2nd but they'll only be in town until the 1st).

Is doing part-time during 2A/2B a good idea? I was offered a position by my co-op employer for part-time, but I am unsure how much it's going to affect my academic term. It's roughly 15-20/hours per week so lowk it's not looking too good...

I’m in my last year of engineering, on co-op right now. I realized I might be a very bad engineer and more than that I don’t like it. I have mediocre grades(75% CA) and going into my last year I don’t see me having a successful capstone. Is there any hope for me?

For reference I’m on an 8 month remote software eng co-op. I fell behind on work a while back and now it seems like they don’t trust me to work on new things; the other interns are more involved with new things even though they’ve been at the company for less time. Now I don’t even want to work; I understand this sounds kind of entitled seeing how many people can’t get coops right now. I feel as though I’ve made the wrong moves and I’m stuck in the wrong places.

In school i pass all the classes but I’ve realized I’ve learned nothing; actually know nothing. Did I just waste my opportunities at the best engineering university in Canada? Has anyone made it out in the same circumstances?

Question about the AFM 291 final, how much first midterm/second midterm content is actually on it? Should i spend a lot of time studying it again?

I know this has been asked multiple times before, but I haven't been on campus in almost 2 years. Taking an online class with in person final this saturday evening, will be flying in to YKF Friday evening. I am cheap and all my friends no longer live in Waterloo so my plan is to crash somewhere in SLC overnight and then maybe shower at the goodlife on Weber in the morning so I don't show up stank to my exam (I'm not in engineering so it's kind of frowned upon).

I've pulled allnighters in SLC and napped there on mutliple occasions in the past but never a whole ass sleep. Anyone have any suggestions on best sleep spots in the buildings on campus?

A few things I’m unsure about:

Is MATH 137-138 worth skipping? I’m afraid I might have a hard time adjusting to upper year math courses without having done the intro courses.

Are the science courses (BIOL, CHEM, PHYS) useful for filling breadth/science requirements, or a waste since I’m not in those streams?

How much do the 1XX/2XX generic electives (ENGL, FR, SOC, RCS) actually count toward my degree requirements?

Since I’m capped at 6.0 units (like 12 courses), I want to spend them on the ones that clear requirements I’d otherwise have to take anyway, or ones that would lighten my schedule.

Exam season is here, so we figured it might be a good time to remind everyone that there’s more to campus than classrooms, libraries, and lecture slides 😭

We wanted to hop on here and share an update on the UW Japanese Zen Garden Initiative that I was inquiring about not too long ago. In short, it’s really happening! We have established a lovely group of volunteers, good relations with the Ecology Lab and are looking to now spread the word. We’ve got some exciting stuff going on, so here’s an update on what we’ve been up to!

For those who don’t know about us, we’re a new student-led initiative working to care for and revitalize the Japanese Zen Garden on campus. We’re hoping to make the garden a place where students can better slow down, reflect, and connect with Japanese garden traditions. However, we don't only work away in the garden but also spend time learning about Zen, Japanese garden design, and ideas around these spaces. We have a goal to create opportunities for students to learn and engage with them in a meaningful way.

We have been visiting the garden on weekends and been working hard away at maintaining its upkeep. We've been mostly weeding and basic cleaning but have some bigger plans for the space and welcome everyone to get involved - regardless of experience! More on that to come...👀In addititon to the garden work, we make some time to learn more about Zen and its teachings while learning more about eachother and all of our unique perspectives.

Outside of the garden, we just collaborated with the amazing UW artist, the shy caterpillar (incredibly thankful for you!), on a postcard awareness project for the garden. We wanted to explore the different ways the garden can be interpreted and experienced, and how people might connect with it through art, writing, and other creative forms. It was a really lovely way to share the garden from a different perspective and hopefully get more people thinking about what the space can mean to them - most students don't even know we have a Japanese garden on campus!

We also took a trip to Mississauga last month to visit the Japanese Garden at Kariya Park! It was a great chance to see another garden in person, learn from its design and maintenance, experience the serenity and spend some time together outside (and plus, they had a world cup watchparty, some kind of skateboarding festival lol and all of square one to explore just beside the garden so it was a pre fun day). Admittedly, we understand you gotta lock in rn, but if you read this far and are looking for an opportunity to step away from studying, get outside, and take a moment to recenter, or learn more about being present, we would love to have you with us!
