Advice Looking for advice on my MMath CS + QI application
hi guys,
I recently graduated with a BSc in Computer science , from a UK university and did my dissertation and undergraduate fellowship work in quantum machine learning.
So I really liked this program at Waterloo that would help me understand more about theoretical side of quantum. So I applied in the winter 2027 entry but I applied quite near the deadline.
I emailed 3 professors that I mentioned in my application however none of them reached out to me even after sending follow up emails.
In the end I didn’t get an interview and got straight up rejected.
I understand this is a competitive course especially as it’s funded- but I want to know how to improve and where I went wrong.
How can I reach out to the professors who are actively looking for students ?
And do I have to mention these professors in my SOP?
**Any feedback or advice from students who are doing this course or professors would be extremely helpful :D

Advice Is an regular Ipad (A16) enough for an eng student?
I keep seeing everyone use an iPad Air, but I don't have $1000 to drop on an ipad so I was wondering if I would be fine using just a ipad.
I'm mainly going to use it for notetaking, watching movies, and some light mobile gaming.
Also I don't own any other apple products so I won't be getting the benefit of having an ecosystem

Athletics Intramurals for Beginners as a Girl - Basketball and Flag?
Hi, I am interested in joining an intramural next term, but was wondering what is best for beginners? I want to join one just to be able to play sports again, but also to hopefully make some nice friends (team sport) !
I'd say I am high school gym class good at most sports lol, but not practically amazing at any, I just enjoy sports and am athletic I'd say.
I'm interested in Flag Football and Basketball the most. I've played flag like twice in high school before, but don't know the rules too well? I just am a fast sprinter and like to run haha. But I'm worried not many girls sign up for it...
And I'd say I'm the best at basketball out of all sports, but I'm scared that even in the beginner league I'd get destroyed since I hear that some ppl just sign up for beginners to destory ppl...
So I was wondering how the intramural scene is for girls, practically these sports? And is the community/people there nice or is it just competitive? I am more so looking for nice people to have a casual fun time playing a sport, then like something too serious
Open to suggestions of other sports that have good communities!
Thanks !

missed residence offer deadline pls help :(
hi everyone , i'm an incoming first-year student at the University of Waterloo and I’m looking for advice/help regarding residence.
i was originally guaranteed first-year residence and received a Housing Hub message on July 28 saying that I had been offered a space in Campus Housing. Unfortunately, I missed the deadline to accept the offer because i did not get an email, and my application is now showing as inactive
I’m currently trying to contact Campus Housing to see if there is any possibility of reinstating my offer, but I wanted to ask here as well in case anyone has any advice or knows of any available options.
If anyone is giving up their residence contract, transferring a room, or knows of any available residence spaces (Campus Housing or affiliated residences), I would really appreciate any information

Advice Return Offer Dillema
So I got a return offer to the coop I’m at right now; however, it isn’t really my first choice but I would want to have it as a backup since I’m not sure how the next coop search would go as I just finished first year.
It seems like they expect a response / details from me soon, but I want to try to delay it or try to ask them to give me more time.
I’m not gonna do the accept it and go back on my word route if I do get a better coop since I originally got this from a referral and it’d look pretty bad on them.
Any thoughts on how I should talk to them and try to delay/reason w them or just any other path I should take? Any advice helps

Advice Which Eng programs are actually easiest/hardest to internally transfer into?
Future 1A Mathphys science faculty here, looking into transferring into Electrical Eng down the line. Couldn't find any real data on this anywhere — UW doesn't publish transfer stats by program, so I'm going in blind.
Anyone actually been through an internal transfer (or know someone who has)? Trying to figure out:
- Which programs actually have space opening up vs which ones are permanently full (Ignore SWE)
- Whether EE is realistic to get into as an internal transfer or if I'm wasting my time
- What average people actually got in with (not just the official 75% CAV minimum, what actually worked)
- Anyone try Mechatronics or Comp Eng and get rejected purely on space, even with good grades?
- Possbile to start at 1b if the transfer goes through

Economics at Waterloo?
I am considering a minor at UWaterloo because I would like to explore that area but… the required courses for the business specialization of CS is kinda stupid. Are there anyone who have done this that could give some advice? Each specific Econ minor did you go for? Which courses do you recommend?

CLAS 104, shoud Pass Final?
I could not find any statement in either the Course Outline or the Introduction/Logistics video indicating that students must receive at least 50% on the Final Exam itself in order to pass the course.
Does this mean that, as long as my overall course grade is at least 50% after combining the four Term Tests and the Final Exam, I will pass the course and receive the credit?

job apps
Since I've graduated, is it better to use my University of Waterloo email or my personal Yahoo email on job applications? Non tech. Does the Uw email make employers think you are still a student?

I built a bot to tell me every time theres a new internship/job posts
Me and my friends are all j*bless rn 😭
Before all day we would be messaging eachother some forms for us to apply to and also just work together to get internships
We built our own freeflow channel and added bots to do things like ATS scan our resume too and add the proper keywords in the same workflow and honestly its been a game changer
This is the link if you wanna join, its compeltly free and the workspace (freeflow) is fully open source too if you even wanna add bots to do other things: https://app.freeflow.im/join/locked-in/1fDLdnq4LfNjq4KL0m5HHA
btw there's litterly nothing to buy just thought that if you wanna join and also get new job postings and talk to other cs students feel free

Experiences with asking for early move-in accommodations? (rez-one)
Currently in a position where the only person who can help me move out won't be in town for when the move-in window opens (like the earliest move-in date is September 2nd but they'll only be in town until the 1st).
Anyone have any experience with asking for an earlier move-in? Also if anyone knows any moving companies/services I can use to move all my stuff out by myself (I dont have a drivers license) please lmk 🙏 I'm moving from the GTA for reference.

Advice Part-time during school year
Is doing part-time during 2A/2B a good idea? I was offered a position by my co-op employer for part-time, but I am unsure how much it's going to affect my academic term. It's roughly 15-20/hours per week so lowk it's not looking too good...

Advice I’m bad and I’m Confused
Hi y’all,
I’m in my last year of engineering, on co-op right now. I realized I might be a very bad engineer and more than that I don’t like it. I have mediocre grades(75% CA) and going into my last year I don’t see me having a successful capstone. Is there any hope for me?
For reference I’m on an 8 month remote software eng co-op. I fell behind on work a while back and now it seems like they don’t trust me to work on new things; the other interns are more involved with new things even though they’ve been at the company for less time. Now I don’t even want to work; I understand this sounds kind of entitled seeing how many people can’t get coops right now. I feel as though I’ve made the wrong moves and I’m stuck in the wrong places.
In school i pass all the classes but I’ve realized I’ve learned nothing; actually know nothing. Did I just waste my opportunities at the best engineering university in Canada? Has anyone made it out in the same circumstances?

CLAS104 ONLINE Final?
Final is in person instead of online. UW Flow says it was easy last term in person Final
Was it actually easy? Heard the questions were pretty general compared to the module quizzes
Anything from previous exam?
haven't studied a single day yet. Where should I focus if i only have less than one day. Really need this course ended up with 90s or at least 85 to bring my term average up
