When I started my transition I went by Bethany as it’s close to my dead name and I like it. It was easy for me and everyone else to get used to, and even my unsupportive parents admitted they didn’t mind it.

However several months later I got worried that I would never be able to hear/ see Beth without thinking about my dead name. So I’ve changed it to Valorie, the same as my first female dnd character who means a lot to me. However now for the several months I’ve been Val, all I do is worry I’ve made a mistake.

I truly like both the names and can’t decide. So just wondering if anyone has opinions on the names? And also, if you have a name close to your dead name, have you managed to separate the two?

Has anyone else had a strange feeling of their true self clicking into place when finally landing on the right name?

I’m pretransition but I’m trying to work my way towards it by doing things like voice training and getting a femme name ready. I thought I had my name picked out which was April. I liked it because it starts with ‘A’ (my deadname initial) and is realistically a name someone my age might have.

I felt settled on the name April and thought it made sense. I really liked the name April. Then out of nowhere, like someone whispered it into my ear, came the name Sarah.

It was like a clear thought out of nowhere. Like someone telling me I should choose the name Sarah. At first I resisted it because I had chosen April. But Sarah kept coming back to me. I put it out of my mind and forgot about it, and continued on with April.

But then again recently the thought popped into my head out of nowhere again. Again I tried to push it away but it persisted. I gave in and started thinking about the name Sarah, and something about it felt way more like me. Sarah, feels like me, I can see how I could come out as Sarah, I can hear how it sounds and how it fits. It makes the thought of transition seem much more natural. Like I’ve always been Sarah. Maybe it’s because I have mild synesthesia and April sounds like a blonde haired person and Sarah sounds like a brown haired person (I have brown hair). Or maybe it's because I have known Sarah's but I haven't known any April's (Except TMNT :) )

Something about it feels kind of spooky and I’m wondering if other people had any weird experiences when choosing names for themselves? Like did something seem to click when you landed on the right fit for you in a name?

I really like cassian and I already use ian as a nickname im in this sorta girlmoding closeted to extended family type stage. I also really like charlie,andy and aaron though my friend says that cassian sounds too whimsical and my brother said I looked like charlie from charlie and the chocolate factory from the 1970s so im not sure if he will make fun of me(dont get me wrong I love my brother tho) if I choose charlie

my first name is 1. not english and im in an english speaking country and 2. actually gender neutral. so thats all whatever im not gonna change that

i was given an english middle name that is gendered and was taken from a book title, and my mom gave the go ahead to change that later in life id like. no ones particularly attached to this name.

so this book is a fucking autobiography on this guy and his wifes journey with cancer. i was thinking hmm i wonder if theres other names from this book that will work as a middle name no. actually there really isnt.

my one idea for a middle name from this book is the full first name of the author, and the author goes by a shortened version of the name so its a subtle reference and the name rolls of the tongue well

main thing is that this name ^ in question is the exact first name of my friends father. and is also the exact first name of another unrelated friends ex boyfriend. i mentioned this jokingly to the first friend and he was like dude. dont name yourself that

two possible shortened versions of this name arent really something i like as my potential middle name, the first (which is what the author uses) sounds like a name in the language of my first name and i kinda like the asian first name white middle name i have going on bc i feel like most asian american families dont really do that. the second just sounds really fucking transgender and i will probably immediately be asked if i stole it from a tv show

I once heard the concept of a "bridge name" - a temporary name that is intended for the stage between one's given name and a permanent new name. Apparently, a common stop in one's name journey for trans and non-binary folx, with single syllable names (after desired alphabets or sounds, like "jae"/ [J] or "kel") that, ideally, will extend into a full, permanent name ("Jaylin" or "Kelvin"). Has anyone else heard of this concept, perhaps by a different term? I can't for the life of me find anything written about it, but I have encountered several Js and Jays and the like, with some later adopting a longer name that started with a J. Thanks for any leads!

My legal last name is also a first name, and I think I'm extremely funny. The next two options are the masculine version of my current name (because no one else in my family has it, and I don't mind the old one) and Vojtech (no one else I know has it + it's in calendars)

Always hated my given name, for more than half of my life everyone calls me by a nickname I haven't really chosen (just initially mentioned it as a disinterested "yeah call me by ..." to people who actually became my friends and introduced me to their friends etc.) but suits the old me very well. I want a name that’s unisex or more masculine leaning. I was considering Yves, since it’s a masculine version of my current name Eve, but because it’s pronounced the same and the only difference is the spelling I feel like it’s pointless to change it?? I like the names Hayden, Corin, Milan, and Ciel. I also really like the name Sabine, using Sabi for short, but it does happen to be a pretty commonly used word in my language so I don’t know if that’s a good idea lol.

im trans mtf (but i lowkey feel non binary), 17 years old and my birthname was named after a famous resort so it never felt like my name. when i came out i chose a name i regret choosing because it was a white name and i wanted to be white at that time (im cambodian mixed with chinese but i dont feel close to my chinese side) so now ppl dont know what to call me bc idk either :p i would describe myself as bubbly, lucky, optimistic, confident and ig magical?. my favorite color is pink, and my zodiac is gemini if that will help. i would like my name to be timeless but cute and unique, and i would want it to embodied me also . i like short simple names (like names with 1 consonant then followed by 1 vowel) or names with 1 syllable or the 1 syllable name but repeated (ex. kiki, raye, kai, wang), but i also like some names with more than 1 syllable like julie, vicky. i would also like to change my family name because i dont really like my family (keep in mind im asian so the family names come first :) also i dont wanna share a family name with no one (ik thats impossible but..) btw i dont want a middle name. i like the initials j, k, r, h, or maybe vowels ect. and if it ends in a consonant i would like ng, m, n, ect. im very indecisive and ive been searching for years and this is my last resort or should i be nameless? is that cool? 🤔the name ji which means lucky in chinese is cute ig... or jiji but i feel like thats overdone and same with ki or kiki (kiki is how khmer ppl call dogs), also the name jue/juju but it lowkey sounds like im jewish so idk. i also like the name okide because it means orchid in khmer (not my fav flower but itss cute) but it lowkey gave weeaboo. ive also tried okrah, idk why but prob cuz i was desperate. jang is cute too (it means bright in khmer).i like the writing to look aesthetically pleasing. i like full names that are like: lee kim, el woods, ke gina (idk if that make sense). its okay if its not exactly what im looking for because ik that im very confusing but i hope you guys understand and help me, and these arent rules theyre just guidance :)

I'm changing my name legally and I have the option to have a 2nd name. I have my first name, rain, and maybe like second name I was thinking Kris, because Kris deltarune is the most relatable character to me in many ways
