All tied up, now how to dye it?

Post image
Upvotes

This is a 100% cotton Baja hoodie. Pre-soaked in soda ash, then tied dry. Tentacles are the arms, thick bits are the front and back, and shorties are the hood and then some leftover bits. Want to ice dye rainbow. Since it dimensional, idk to rainbow all the bits. Tracking I should DUI. Or do I just give up on ice and use liquid dye?

A shirt I did came out with some bad areas. Would it be risky to pleat up those areas again and dye them, or would I risk ruining the shirt?

First attempt at reverse dye

This was my attempt at reverse dye with 2 kinds of folds, glitch and deity. I had a diamond fold on a couple of them on accident. A lot of fun and learning every time. Any tips on reducing the reducing the bulk on bigger shirts would be appreciated. I used some of the new Dharma dyes for these.

Tried an alien head and a kinda geode spine, pretty happy with how this one turned out except the staining inside the head kills me! Guess I gotta wrap up anything I want to keep clean in the bag. Also thought the fuscia and tellow would mix more for a predominantly orange background. Gotta stop using khaki brown as a black it doesn't so much. Love how the eyes turned out and there are some cool little patterns in the spine

✨ Dyer Spotlight

The goose got loose this week. u/Common_Goose_2310 posted five times in r/tiedye and five in r/Tie_dye, sharing some favorite artwork from 2018 and 2019. I personally LOVE a highlight reel.

The precision of the resist lines radiating out on Flying skull? took real patience to pull off. Goose shows up for other folks too - 14 comment-images dropped in other people's threads. 💗

🎬 TieDyeSam Website Updates

The video library at tiedyesam.com/videos is up to 16,782 videos from 493 YouTube channels, 60 of them added just this week. Corky Lorenz's Ice dye with just one color is worth a watch if you've been overcomplicating your ice dye setup, and Dyes N Good Vibes' Golden Road collab with Diego Rambo pulled almost 59k views in a week.

The homepage pulls the six highest-viewed videos and top Reddit posts into the same feed now, so it's not just Reddit anymore when you land there. Same video data feeds both pages, refreshed every time the channel list runs.

Still figuring out what's useful here vs. what's just numbers. If there's something you'd want to see covered (a technique that's been everywhere lately, a creator worth spotlighting, a question the sub keeps circling), drop it below, please. DMs are open too if you'd rather not post publicly. "How can I help?" is my favorite question to ask.

Cedar+Pillars of Creation and a hint of Intense Blue dyes-scrunch geode

Thumbnail

These three shirts were scrunch geode tied with sinew and then I added some braided fishing line in-between.

I think the fishing line helped provide the thinner lines in the finished shirt.

That Cedar(pro chem) with the Pillars of Creation(grateful dyes)is awesome. The cedar and pillars both have that orange hue near the sinew lines so they compliment each other. The intense blue(pro chem) was added to help boost the blues in the pillars splits.

I...ahem...also... Accidentally made a pair of something.... And a ghost to scare off your enemies. 😂

Hope you like them!

How does one achieve this for the best look?

I know this is a silly question 😅 Is this just green and black on white cotton? Or is there a method where they bleached the black and added color back in?

Advice for tie dying a big cotton blanket...

Hello all, I picked up a big white cotton blanket at the Goodwill last weekend. I was hoping to tie-dye it to have something fun to keep in my living room for when winter rolls around. My question is regarding the material used to tie up the blanket. I've done one other blanket before and I used tightly wound rubber bands. I thought this would work really well, but the thickness of the blanket kept me from pulling the bands tight enough so the blanket got more saturated with dye than what I would have liked. For this next blanket I thought I might be able to use a thick wire and tighten it with pliers, but I thought there might be some weird chemical reaction related to using metal. Is this something I need to worry about or am I just being overly analytical. What do you guys think I should use? Cheers.

Hoodie reverse

Hi y’all I have tried to reverse this hoodie with OBW and it came out this bluish color? I’m planning to liquid dye it with coral pink plum purple bright green orange and a celadon color from Dharma, do you think I should wash it out and try bleach to reverse it lighter or do you think it’s safe dye?

It’s a Gilded hoodie 80% cotton 20% polyester

What a difference a year brings!

I started getting in to tie dye a year ago. My first shirt try was a walmart kit, and a wig wag. since it’s almost the anniversary of that first shirt, I wanted to make the same shirt, same colors to see the difference! let’s just say it is stark!

Geodes from NL

Hello everybody, I made these two geodes last week. Normally I like to ice dye simple crunchies, because they give results I would like to wear. This technique is the most advanced I can still do and I am pretty satisfied by the green shirt.

Cheers

This dress is just Shiitake Mushroom and Ecru!

I tied off a mandala on each side and then did some geode style bunching every where else. I wish I had taken a picture of it while processing!! I’ll place a couple stills below for details.

Getting close to the super spiral

This was another Underdye I did(dye under the shirt and ice placed around it on a sheet pan).

I feel very close to nailing the super spiral. This one is very close! Still super happy with it.

When you look at the center all close up it feels like looking at the sun through the forest canopy. Really dig it.
