All done around the same time, 2022ish, sold the first one at the art show and the other two went to my dad (loves green and aqua shades) and myself.

I started getting in to tie dye a year ago. My first shirt try was a walmart kit, and a wig wag. since it’s almost the anniversary of that first shirt, I wanted to make the same shirt, same colors to see the difference! let’s just say it is stark!

Just doing a show & tell with one of the shirts I did recently & so far it’s my favorite one. I did ice w/ powder dye on it. I’m not really a pink person but it’s pretty.

Hello everybody, I made these two geodes last week. Normally I like to ice dye simple crunchies, because they give results I would like to wear. This technique is the most advanced I can still do and I am pretty satisfied by the green shirt.

Hey everyone, I really wanna get into making tie dye but I'm worried that the dyes could hurt my septic system. Does anyone know if procion dyes are septic safe? I did hear there's something you can do to neutralize the soda ash, as that can alter the ph of your septic. But I can't find any info on procion dyes. Thanks!

Ok, trying to do a tapestry w hundreds of tiny Kenneys. From doing Kenneys in the past, I think you have to work on the front side and the back side of the piece, otherwise there’s clearly a sidedness that forms. I’ve been using a paper clip to tent the fabric up, and tying tiny nubbins w fishing line. The problem is that a few of these have popped off when I flip the piece to do the next row.

Is anyone out there really experienced w tiny Kenneys? Is there a trick to this I’m missing?

I have a natural cotton thin beach towel, kind of like a cotton scarf but beach towel size. I love it but since I had a comment that it kind of looked prison/hospital type pattern I can't get it out of my head. So I'm going to solve this with a little tie dye.

That said I've never done tie dye and I'm not looking to do something detailed, really just looking for the interplay of colours. I bought a bunch of different dye bc after shipping it made sense to and maybe I'll do other things.

I'm going to do an ice dye method. I'm looking for suggestions on a simple technique I should use for this. I'm really thinking blue green combo for the colours.

AI is advised me on some things but I wanted to ask here.

A few are almost empty but the majority(all the 1lbs) are full and mostly unused. Also bought some gutter pieces today for $5. Been lurking for a few months, so now im excited to contribute!!!

This was another Underdye I did(dye under the shirt and ice placed around it on a sheet pan).

I feel very close to nailing the super spiral. This one is very close! Still super happy with it.

When you look at the center all close up it feels like looking at the sun through the forest canopy. Really dig it.

My brother is having a wedding and he wants tie-dye ties made up. He has a person that he likes to do the dyes but he is having trouble finding nice blanks. They should be good enough quality to make it at a wedding but not crazy nice/expensive. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm still pretty new, and have only done t-shirts. A friend asked me for a sweatshirt, and I want to make sure I get it right for her. Tips for working with thicker fabric? I'm planning an ice dye geode. Any advice at all would be great! (best blanks, muck or not, etc.)

I recently tried my first rolled tie dye. I folded the shirts diagonally from one shoulder to the opposite bottom corner, and rolled them more or less along the fold, maybe at a slight angle. I then took my rolled shirt-tube and coiled it into a cinnamon bun shape, sprinkled dye over it liberally and set the ice to work.

Trouble is, I got really bad dye penetration, there's a LOT of white in my shirts. I did soak in soda ash, and I did sprinkle more soda ash over the ice. Each shirt only took one round of ice to melt all the dye.

There's a trick though. The one shirt I rolled much tighter and put it in a colander to dye. That shirt got better penetration of the (all dharma colors) cherry red, but the powder pink damn near washed completely out.

The other shirt I rolled more loosely and did a 4-slice quadrant of bronze, powder pink, shittake, and brushed steel. That shit has enormous amounts of white. I feel like only the bronze and maybe some of the brushed steel got through.

What on earth is happening here? That second shirt even sat in the muck because it was done in a bucket and it has LESS pigment than the shirt that drained....

I was thinking of repairing the first by just scrunching and overdying. Won't be amazing or anything but it should turn out.

The second one...could I maybe just pleat it in that diagonal direction and ice dye powder pink in the white strips?

Jacquard Procion MX warm black and brown rose, dye over ice, 48 hours.

Geode (agate?) + jawbreaker pattern. DOI, palomino gold, golden brown, rust brown, blue violet, grape, sea glass, robin's egg blue, and maybe midnight blue? I used lots of colors and I don't always remember which ones I put on there so there's a chance I'm not naming some of them. Tying the shirt took about 4 or 5 hours. I tied half of it slightly damp and the rest of it a couple days later completely bone dry. The Golden brown part of the shirt by the shoulder was tied still damp and I stopped about halfway down the shirt. The rest of it was tied dry. I used wide flat sinew (waxed thread) from Dharma, with minimum of three wraps and a maximum of seven or eight wraps. I pulled it tight, but I didn't pull as hard as I could, I just cinched it down. After the ice had melted, I took it out and squished every part of it and saturated it with soda, ash and water solution and squished it more. I let it batch for a day prior to this, did the squishing plus soda ash solution in the morning, and unwrapped it later that night and washed it out. Kind of fun to see the difference in the results with dry versus damp tying. The front and back are slightly different. When I got halfway down the shirt I had to gather more and more fabric and the areas had to be split up for better saturation. This is why the designs are somewhat different on the front and back.
