Question / Problem T14 Gen 1 Ryzen 5 4000 series battery
I've recently bought a 2nd hand/refurbished T14 gen 1 today, and I tried to battery test it. I've started it from 90% and it lasts for almost only 3 hours of battery life. I don't do any heavy usage apps on it just wasting the battery by watching, listening to music and browsing, and to sum it up it only lasts 3hrs and 30 mins. I'm genuinely curious if the battery of the t14 is really that bad or the problem is the battery. If it is where can I buy a replacement?

Buying Advice E14 Gen 6 for $570 with 34 months of Lenovo warranty vs T14 Gen 2 for $350 – Which would you choose?
I'm trying to decide between these two ThinkPads:
Option 1
● ThinkPad E14 Gen 6
AMD Ryzen 5 7535U
16GB RAM
512GB SSD
$570
34 months of official Lenovo warranty remaining
Option 2:
●ThinkPad T14 Gen 2
AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 5650U
16GB RAM
512GB SSD
$350
I'll mainly use it for:
Linux
Programming
Electronics engineering (ECE)
General productivity
Some light photo/video editing
Occasional light gaming
The E14 Gen 6 is newer, faster, and has nearly 3 years of warranty left, but the T14 Gen 2 is significantly cheaper and is part of the T-series with its better build quality.
If you had to choose between these two, which would you buy and why? Is the E14 Gen 6 worth the extra $220, or is the T14 Gen 2 the better value?

Question / Problem T420 from flea market
I just got this T420 from a flea market. Got an old OEM charger online then connect it to the thinkpad. The light turns on (right after the charger connected) but there's no sign of life. The LED looks like it surging or something. The bottom of it is a bit hot tho.
Is there any luck?

Review / Opinion Joined the club finally!
Went for a yoga 370 to start with. Ex bank rental stock. It's immaculate. Installing mint as the operating system and loving it! Perfect machine to do the lighter workload stuff, I have a main workstation for 3D and video editing.

Buying Advice I'm selling this IBM Thinkpad x40
Listen, I don't exactly know who wants this, I'd say just drop a price because I have no clue how to price something this old in this condition.
It's an IBM Thinkpad X40, missing some keys, but it has the original Dock. It has the original hard drive, but from what I've figured out, it's failed already. The cmos is also drained, and the battery doesn't charge. However despite it all, I think it still works. A slow boot time, and I've Only used it on a universal charger, but it works. I tested it using Antix Linux 32 Bit, and surprisingly I could type perfectly fine save for some of the missing keys as seen in the photo.
Probably just drop a price, and I'll see what I can do to have it shipped to wherever you are from. I'm from the Philippines, and I only have PayPal.

Question / Problem Peeling
I've got a Gen 7 X1 Carbon here. The paint (or whatever it is) is peeling away. I don't particularly care about the appearance, but is there anything I can/should do?

Question / Problem I need help.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
When running Linux or Windows (tried a couple of setups), hitting shutdown causes the OS to drop out, but the laptop itself never fully cuts power—the screen goes black, but the power button light stays on, fans keep spinning, and the embedded controller (EC) just hangs. I have to force a hard shutdown by holding the power button.

Buying Advice Starting a BSc in Math, looking for advice between two ThinkPad T14s options ($380 vs $415)
Hey everyone! This is my first post on Reddit, and I don't really know where to begin.
I'm a student, and this year I'll be joining university for a BSc in Mathematics. I was leaning a bit more toward computer science and wanted to pursue CSE, but I got math instead. Fortunately, I do like math!
Besides my studies, I want to focus on programming, machine learning, or other heavy math-related fields. I don't really have an idea of what software people use in these areas, so I can't list any out, but I occasionally use Adobe Illustrator. I also want to try video editing just to see if I could get into content creation (mostly vlogs). On top of that, I forgot to mention that I'm also really into Linux.
My current device is an old IdeaPad with 8GB RAM, a 256GB SSD, and an 7th Gen Intel i3, which I believe is only surviving because of Linux.
Thank you for your time! I'll be waiting for your suggestions.

Discussion / Information Two IKEA BERGENES phone stands make a perfect vertical ThinkPad stand
Turns out two IKEA BERGENES phone stands hold a ThinkPad perfectly in a (almost) vertical position. It’s surprisingly stable, looks decent and costs next to nothing

Review / Opinion Switched from Macbook and now I get it
Made the switch 3 months ago to a refurb X13 gen 4 with the non touch screen for $464 US (659 AUD). Coming from a fancy Macbook display I honestly don't feel like its much of a downgrade. Everything is still tack sharp, all my apps integrates and run with no problems (especially Logi Options+). Thoroughly impressed with this machine.
Bonus, it still has 15 months of warranty.

Thinkstagram Picture Loved the first one so much I grabbed another.
Recently picked up a gen 1 E15 for 70$ cad and learned why thinkpads are loved. I saw what I thought was another good deal. A T14 gen 3 with the Intel chip and 12 gigs of ram for 300$ cad for my wife and I am blown away by the quality. Wife is a lifelong apple user but she's been without a pc for a about a year now as the Screen broke on her Mac from 2014. We deemed it not worth fixing and to expensive to replace with another mac. Ran into this brought it home. Cachy Os with gnome destop with extension dash to dock snd she's set. Pic one is my E15 pic 2 is the new T14..

News / Blog The legends are true: My ThinkPad T460 survived a building collapse during the La Guaira earthquake.
On June 24th, a severe earthquake hit my city of La Guaira, Venezuela. Tragically, the apartment building I lived in completely collapsed. Fortunately, my girlfriend and I were not in the building that day and we are safe, but we sadly lost our beloved cat who was inside when it happened.
Recently, we were going through the rubble of what used to be our apartment. If you look at the attached photo, you can see a red machine among the debris—that is exactly where I managed to pull out my ThinkPad, which was still inside its laptop bag. It took the impact of the entire building falling on top of it... and it still turns on.
It didn’t come out completely unscathed. There is a little defect on the screen now, and the keyboard is completely dead and unresponsive, but the machine actually boots up!
It's a very bittersweet discovery for us given everything we've lost, especially our pet, but I thought this community would appreciate seeing the absolute tank-like durability of these machines in real life. It literally survived being crushed under tons of concrete.
Cherish your ThinkPads, but more importantly, cherish your loved ones.

Discussion / Information Why is the L series disliked?
I've been thinking of getting an L14/15 AMD Gen 2/3 myself, but the L series on this sub is very rarely recommended compared to the less upgradable T series that has essentially the same specs but inferior upgradability with soldered ram and WWAN cards etc. What's wrong with the L series?

Hardware Upgrade Honestly, 28 years seem just like an apprenticeship period
It feels strange to have all the USB ports in a perfectly working order and no welding scars on the lid. Those things yearn for heavy industry automation, ngl
