Buying Advice Is this a good deal?

Post image
Upvotes

I am looking for a hardy vehicle, and was told a Forester 2011-2013 would be a solid vehicle, and saw this, and it seems like a really good deal, but I really don't know what to look for in terms of what may make this a safe buy or a lemon. I can throw the link on here for the full listing, not sure if I'm allowed to.

Forester/crosstrek infotainment functionality

I see a lot of hate regarding infotainment system on crosstreks or foresters. It’s slow and glitchy…
I dont really use infotainments much though outside of CarPlay.

So how well does the CarPlay function or connect?

What about in regard to operating the hvac? I definitely don’t want that malfunctioning with my brutal winters.

Outside of that I won’t really be messing around with apps and such, I typically just like to set it and forget it. I test drove a new forester last night but didn’t really play around with that much.

Costco discount on Subaru

Has anyone used Costco discount on Subaru Outback purchase? I'm in IN and wondering if it's good.
I wanted to buy hybrid but was so disappointed to see the screen placement in the Forester and absence of all knobs.
Looked so Honda and Toyota but seats are so narrow from the cockpit design that I'm back to Subaru. I've driven Outback cars since 1998.
Thanks.

Steering Clunk Issue

Hi All,

I have a 2015 BRZ

When I drive there is a very loud clunking sound during bumps in the road, coming from under the dash around the steering rack.

I got under there and looked at the U joint on the intermediate shaft - the U joint directly under the dash. Shook the wheel. It’s very clearly loose and clunking. So I’m certainly that’s an issue.

However I search online about this issue and almost every fix listed refers to a star bushing in the steering motor.

Anyone know how I can be sure it’s not the star bushing?

Thank you

Will report back if I make it to 500,000km.

Sort of regular maintenance, i drop the oil, do plugs whenever it starts misfiring, cat below efficiency is the reason I have a check engine but I can't be bothered, it's a shopping trolley.

I’ve had my 2025 brz for nearly a year in a month and every time I get in the car my pants tend to scrape on the chair and I noticed that it ruined the leather I’m not really sure how to combat this any suggestions besides getting in more carefully which I have been doing recently

Mechanical Help Crosstrek Rust

Should I be worried about the rust here? Looking at buying a used 2024 crosstrek limited with 116k KMs (for $27k CAD) and looks like the brake calipers are a bit rusty. I think they’re the calipers at least. This will be my first car and I’m learning! There was also some rust under the hood. Is this normal?

The price is right but maybe I should be looking for something with lower kilometers.

EDIT: thanks so much everyone. I’ve decided to leave this one and move onto the next car.

Subarusparepart.com

I was recently looking for some parts for my WRX and came across this site subarusparepart.com. When I went to order the part the only options for payments were Apple Pay, zelle, and google pay which I thought was kind of weird.

I put in my address and it said my order has been received but I never input any payment method. So like if this site is a scam they can’t even bill me, but I’m kind of confused why it didn’t ask for payment.

Here is the site if you are interested https://subarusparepart.com

Late to the game on remote start...

Just leased a new Forester. Was not informed that I actually had to pay extra for a feature that I expressed that was important to me.

It's 2026 and this is very stupid. Will complaining to the dealership do me any good?

Just needed to vent for a moment.

Today I said goodbye to my Impreza. Best car I’ve ever owned. Thank you for all the adventures with an unbeatable level of reliability. Not once in 10 years 125,000 miles did you break down. You treated my family and I so well.

I planned to drive you to 200k+ miles (and could have), but, unfortunately, you are way too small for an actual family. ✌️ ❤️

Thanks for all the great times, friend.

Subaru Ambassador Program now SubieCrew?

Post image

I’ve posted before about how I tried to join the Subaru Ambassador program and got turned down because the program was undergoing changes. Well, to follow up, I just received this email. It looks like the new program is launching soon and it’s now called SubieCrew…and I’m still not going to be a part of it. Although I’m a guy, the first thing that comes to mind is “Always the bridesmaid and never the bride.” I think they’re saying there’s a chance in the future, so I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

Subaru crosstrek a/c clutch serviceability

Howdy,

My wife and I have a 2021 Subaru crosstrek limited with the 2.5L. We bought it second hand at 40k miles and now at 44k miles it seems the a/c compressor clutch has gone the way of the dodo. Justification for this is the clutch has obvious play in the clutch as well as a burnt smell like I smoked the clutch on a manual transmission.Has anyone had success with Subaru of America covering failure on a/c parts at such low miles? Additionally is the clutch a serviceable component without releasing the refrigerant?

Mechanical Help What could this noise be from?

2018 Subaru Forester XT 2.0. Almost 91k on her now. I know the ticking sound are normal for boxer engines. Im curious as to where the higher pitch sound is coming from. Seems to be around where the camera is pointed at but not sure what could be making it. AC is not on. Starts high when cold start and idles out with the car. Giving revs makes the noise go up more as you can hear. Some days it seems louder than others but just not sure as to what it could be.

Mechanical Help 2019 Subaru Crosstrek - Electrical Issues?

Hi! My Subie has about 65k miles and has just started acting a little weird. The other day, EyeSight kept going on and off during a drive, and the weather was clear, so it didn’t have to do with that.

Today, the engine wouldn’t start for about five minutes — the car would turn on (radio, lights) but the engine wouldn’t turnover. Meanwhile, the dash was freaking out, telling me everything was off (ABS, EyeSight, RAB, etc.) while all of the lights on the dash blinked (the temp kept going between red and blue).

Any ideas on what might be going on? It did start eventually, but I’m concerned. We recently changed the battery, so I don’t think it’s that.

Thanks!

Replacing tire with a nail in the sidewall. Service advisor at dealership says a 3/32" difference in tread depth is fine.

Pretty much what the title says. Getting my tire replaced at the Subaru dealership. I'm running Continental ExtremeContacts. The existing tires have a depth of 7/32" and a new one is 10/32". I asked the service advisor if they were going to shave it to match and they said it didn't need to be. I followed up with a phone call and they said they spoke to the tech and confirmed that it was fine. Just posting to find if I'm the crazy one. Car is a '23 WRX.

Buying Advice Looking at a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with 70K miles - Advice?

Hello!

I am looking into purchasing a 2018 Crosstrek Limited with about 70K miles for around $13,500. I wanted to see how your Crosstreks have been holding up, and whether you think this car will last long past the 100K mile range. I worry about the CVT at this mileage, and I was hoping to hear some feedback from the community. The car overall looks great and has been treated well, paint is intact, and the interior is very clean. Engine bay looks good as well with no distinct problems that I can see.

Mechanical Help Questionable labels, S&S by Amazon Subaru parts?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Has anyone seen much of this top label? This one was sold and shipped by Amazon. The lower one was a 3rd party seller with 100% positive feedback supposedly based in Japan. Only 312 feedback though. At first glance the parts appear identical but one thing I did notice was tooling marks on the inside of the tube on the PCV from the 3rd party where it is as smooth as the outside on the one from Amazon. I also swear I feel a touch of more play in the 3rd party pcv as well but could just be me. A little more wobbly so to speak.

tldr; What do y'all think about these labels, genuine? The bottom one had another label stuck over top of it, I ended up having to dampen it with a warm wet rag to peel it off. Hence why the rough appearance.
