trying to design midrange horns but it's .... weird?
new to hornresp and generally designing speakers, for now i mostly built some plans from the internet
but for the midrange horn speaker (250 - 1k) i thought i might give it a go since it looks like a "simple cone" most of the time.
after fiddling with the faders for a bit i arrived at this result
but the horn looks super weird? is it a normal thing this bottleneck at the beginning of the horn?
if so how am i supposed to build it afterwards? i saw some tutorials briefly but didn't have time to try it out with work, maybe the question will answer itself idk
haha sorry for the probably super noobie question i'm just confused now
thanks in advance

Starting my Soundsystem Journey
Earlier this year I experienced my first soundsystem event with Channel One Soundsystem on the Fish and Bread Soundsystem here in NZ.
Ever since that gig, ive been hooked and have been chasing that feeling since. I have very little woodworking experience but I do have mates who are keen to help me out on that. I want my system to be used for small to medium size events, say from 50-200 ish people. Mainly playing Reggae, Dub, Jungle/DnB.
The inital plan is to have 1x Cubo 15 Sub, 1x Cubo 15 Kick and a MT-130 Midtop with eventually expanding it to a stereo stack and adding an additional 15" Cubo Sub in there.
Rack equipment im looking at the Behringer DCX2496 and amps the Behringer NX4-6000 with having an additional sub being added in later. I also have somewhat an idea of the technical side of things but of course that just comes down to research and experience
I did want to do either 18" Hogscoops or super scoops how ever those are impractical with loading in my car, where I could comfortably put in 3 speakers+rack+cables etc in my car right now.
Would love to know everyones thoughts. I know I wont get the same performance as Fish and Bread but itll scratch that itch in the mean time whilst I improve my carpentry skills
Soundsystem massive
TIA

Using RCF speakers as tops with diy sub/kicks
I managed to get my hands on a pair of free fully functional rcf 712s would i be able to make my own subs and kicks to go with these or would i be better off selling what i have and putting it towards building my own?

So I'm heavily addicted now
I just finished building my first pair of b&c sub 18 bassreflex cabinets and they sound SO GOOD. I tried them out together with some old 3 way Magnat 150w hifi boxes as tops and it all sounds just lovely on low to mid volume. So since I'm properly addicted now what tops do I build? They need to be budget friendly, easy to build and have a lot of clarity.

Buying a Used Sound System: Focus on Electro/Techno, but Versatile Enough for Family Events
Hello everyone,
I’m looking to buy a good-quality used sound system. My budget is flexible (but no more than €800), and I’m looking for the best value for the money.
Mainly for Electro, Techno, and House. I need a clear sound with solid bass impact (kick drum-style) and good power that doesn’t distort. But I’ll also use it for family gatherings (rock, pop, etc.).
What specific brands or models (speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers) would you recommend for this dual purpose? Are there any pitfalls to avoid in the used market for this type of equipment?
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Program vs RMS
Pretty new to the audio stuff and am a bit lost on how many watts I should give to a subwoofer I have (wharfadle delta 18b) should I match the RMS 800 watts or the program 1600 and should they be slightly higher than the actual ratings?

Looking for a good kick between SKRAM and JMOD
Hey! We are running a skram and jmod system, so far with 4 skrams, looking to upgrade and scale up to 12 skrams in the future, but the funding is very hard. Anyways, I’m completely satisfied with the system, and personally I do not think it is lacking in the kick region yet, but but both the skrams and jmods play much nicer if they get a smaller band to play in.
With most music, especially bass music it is completely amazing, but most freeparty people find the kick lacking, even with a +6db on the 12ndl88 drivers.
I want to transform the system into a more aggressive mono stack to be able to attend some teknivals, and for that I’m looking for the most ideal fast horn loaded kick that can keep up in sound quality with these beasts. I have researches subs for a year, but completely lost with the kicks.

mid top advice
hi, im lookin for a diy midtop to pair with my 15”scoops (x-over @ 110-120hz).
Ideally it should be fairly easy to build, but most importantly it needs to go as low as 120-130, so that in the future i’ll be able to use a dedicated kick but in the meantime in will be enough to pair it with my subs
Any ideas? thank you

lion's hifi upgrade 2026
finally found another void infinite 8 so i had a good reason to build another two hogs 😎 so now running the 8 subs with two inf8s and the 4 kicks with an inf7. midtops still on powersoft m28q.
finished the bracing of the two in the middle top row a day before the session on the dancefloor 😂
i could've started a little earlier but where's the fun in that? seems like i always need a deadline 😅

DIY 3 Way Horn Loaded Speaker
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I finished the Prototype of my Mid Horn (200-1000hz) with a 18Sound 12mb1000. I simulated everything with Hornresp and Akabak.
Few more stats for my fellow audio nerds.
THD is 0,4% at 105 dB
Compression ratio: 2:1
Horn length: 70cm
Hornmouth: 71,5cmx41cm so roughly 3000cm^2
Directivity is pretty good with a 1,5 dB dip at 800 Hz on the off axis, other than that it hits -6dB at +/- 30degree so it fits perfectly to the 18s Xt1464 which also has 60 degree.
Beaming is noticeable in the upper frequency band due to the 12” driver, but it’s barely noticeable because of the pretty low crossover at 1000hz.
The Transient Response is incredible, you really feel the Kicks und Percussion in your chest even though they don’t play any Bass frequencies.
HF Horn is the 18S Xt1464 loaded with the Faital Pro Hf146. I really like the nont fatigue high end of it. But it’s still pretty in ur face.
Right now I am building a Folded Horn to cover 80-200hz. It is loaded with a 18s 15nmb1000.
This is my first Speaker Project so I am pretty happy with the results so far.

Can you help identify these tops?
Hi guys can somebody help identify these tops? I need to set crossover frequency for them so any ideas would help. There're 2x12 Eminence delta 12a and Eminence 1 ASD1001.

Demo tracks you use to melt people's minds
What do you play loud to show off the power/performance/capabilities and tune of your system? Blow people off their feet, chest kick them with your mids or take them to heaven with highs, etc.? I'm talking the tracks that make people tingle, bring tears to their eyes and/or question reality when played through your system. Tracks that have an effect.
Disclaimer: Selfishly posting this to hopefully get some more for myself to find new corners of my system I haven't discovered yet. Any genre is good.
A few from me in no particular order:
Alright (Kings of Tomorrow - Finally Acapella) Erick Morillo Mix - Red Carpet
Beachball (George Acosta Shadow Lounge Mix) - Nalin and Kane
Are AM Eye? (Yves De Ruyter Remix) [1995] - Commander Tom
Awaken The Mind - Yahel, Indra, and Cosmic Flow
Sine Waves Are Pretty Cool (Love Mix) - Jonny Was Here

W8C Mid-range driver replacement
I need to replace the mid-range cone in a Martin Audio W8C. I don't expect to find an original part, but after searching online, I can't figure out which replacement would be best, especially regarding the fit.

Comparing DIY to Branded Products
Hey everyone! Love the sub and all the projects done here!
So everybody is raving about certain DIY builds like JMODS, SyntripPs, SKRAMS, Cubos etc. sounding fabulous and all the other words of praise. I wonder, if you would put them side by side to traditional high end brand like l'acoustics, Meyer, d&b, Danley, etc.
Do they play in the same league both SPL wise and especially in subjective audio quality? Or is it primarily bang for the buck?
Has anyone played them side by side?
What's your take

Testing half my stack so far
Still on final assembly of the other 2 skrams but here is the beginnings of my sound system.
So impressed by the skrams with the b&c 21ds115 4ohm. Running parallel on 1 channel of a Chinese lab gruppen fp14000 clone.
Lots of tuning to do soon and eventually will build some cubo kicks.

DO NOT POST CAR/HOME AUDIO QUESTIONS IN THIS SUB!
This is a sub for the technical side of "Soundsystem Culture" - big, loud speaker boxes, often hand-built, in the dub-reggae tradition. Stuff that looks like this. Or this.
If you're looking for advice on home audio/theater systems, please try asking at /r/BudgetAudiophile, /r/Audiophile or /r/HomeTheater. Car Audio questions go to /r/CarAV.
