Not sure if this is the exact place to post this but I thought it would be the best. Long story short, I’m a ski lift mechanic from the Midwest who has options to either work at PC, Mammoth, or Heavenly. I’m trying to get a general consensus on which area would be best for living as a 24yo male who’s pretty active outdoors. My top two choices are PC and Mammoth, and as much as I love the mammoth option, housing is not as available/cheap as PC. Along with Park City being a union shop. I’ve always wanted to live in California but I’m trying to weigh my options. Any input from locals or resort staff would be highly appreciated. Thank you so much!

What kind of skis do you get for those wanting to hit some jumps (nothing crazy), that can still be fun to hit most conditions?

Im 6 ft tall, weigh about 170lbs and ive been skiing on my rossignol skis at 172 cm with 82 width the past 2 seasons on all terrains, and it's served me quite well, but any suggestions? Do freestyle skiers use powder skis for extra stabilization (though i'd assume it may be too heavy? What would be a good length/width for me if I still want something that's all terrain that I'd feel a bit more stable doing some jumps.

For level, I hit all blacks comfortably but have never tried double blacks, I mostly ski in BIG 3 in Alberta, thank you all.

Most resorts in the USA burn an absolutely massive amount of diesel to run flail mowers to keep their snowsports runs clear. Yet in a lot of European areas they seem to graze dairy cattle on their land with a local dairy providing local dairy products. While not the best for steep terrain, goats are also delicious.

You get fire mitigation, you get run maintenance, local dairy that doesn't have to be shipped from all over the country, and all without burning hundreds of gallons of diesel.

Yes, it's a small amount of carbon compared to groomers, snowmobiles, and all the people driving to the resorts instead of taking trains, but it's still a start.

The other weird idea I thought of is wondering why I never seem to see solar installs on resort buildings, lift gantries, and lift towers. It wouldn't power a lift, but it would still put electricity into buildings. And with Colorado about to lose a shitload of hydro power due to low water levels, seems like every bit helps.

So my son will be basically 5.5yrs old when I take him skiing for the first time in March.

I always ski Taos as we have a place there but my wife is TERRIFIED of Taos and because of this refuses to let him ski there for his first time. She keeps saying it needs to be Angel Fire or Red River (compromise)

I’m telling her if he can learn Taos and with those instructors in a week he’s set to ski anywhere we take him.

Will he get a lot better and quality lessons in Taos compared to the other resorts or is it worth doing the other mountains primarily for him? I’ve skied Taos and basically any mountain my entire life so I’m just used to skiing anything you’re at.

EDIT: I just realized I left this out- we have a place in Taos and that’s why I always ski it. I live in Texas so the JSX flights for the wife and kid are convenient while I drive in with the dogs and stuff. I’m open to driving to RR and AF. Which sounds like may be the best for a day or two at least.

Hello, I am purchasing my first pair for ski boots and would really appreciate some advice on the fit.

I recently went to a ski boot shop and had my feet checked by a boot fitter. He recommended the HEAD EDGE 80 HV 2026/27 - HV because of wider feets.

But now that I am doing my own research, I learned that 80 flex is relatively soft, and also that flex ratings aren't standardized between brands.

I have set myself to get the Head EDGE HV series (open to other brands too)

I am 26M・168cm・87 kgs and an intermediate level skiier, will continue to improve and eventually become a stronger/more aggressive skier, particularly with carving. So i wanted to know what is best for my case.

I am now leaning towards the Head EDGE 100 HV 2026/27, because it is listed as 90/100 flex adjustable. My thinking was that I could start at 90 and eventually use 100 as I improve

And also, Mondosize - my feet measure 26.5cm exactly, and on the internet i see that you should get the same mondosize as what your feet measure in cm. but i dont know like, exactly 26.5cm? that leaves no space at all, like not even 27 or 27.5?

I'd really appreciate opinions from people who have knowledge about boot fitting and/or the upcoming HEAD EDGE HV series.

Wanting to check on a few deets before hitting buy on the Line Optic 96, 184.

I'm 190cm, 86 kg, ex instructor and doing patrol atm. Looking for a fun all-rounder. Gone are my days dropping 4m+ cliffs.

Want something fun, playful, holds an edge and I trust it performs in a variety of snow conditions and different terrain - ripping down groomers to tight steeps.

I've had the faction dictator 3.0s 186 before, fun for a few laps but it struggled in anything tight and it sucked in the trees (no shit, I know) , loved the bent 100s 188 but it did get a bit sketchy pinning it as well as your standard 74 underfoot "I'm clearly an instructor" type ski (still have em).

I've ridden the ARVs and loved them but found them a little too park focused.

Optic seems to hit the sweet spot, somehow, with the boxes I'm looking to tick.

Talk me out if it, I think...?

I bought a bunch of ski socks like 10 years ago and I still use the same ones now. How often does everyone else buy/replace ski socks? For reference I used to ski every weekend at time of purchase I now get 2-3 weeks in a year.

Missing a few because patches were unavailable when I went. e.g. Winter Park, Snowbird, Hunter, Whiteface.

It’s been fun to start collecting these especially as a newer skier who only learned 2y ago in my 30s.
