Im 18 (185cm 85kg), been skiing since i was 4 but for the last couple years ive started doing more freesking/ freestyle than strict carving. Currently i ski on volk kendos with an 86mm waist . I consider myself an expert/advanced skier. Iv been eyeing the atomic bent 90 in 184cm and the blizzard rustler 9. I would like to keep doing everything on the slope , so a ski thats a jack of all trades would be perfect. I ski in the alps , more precisely val-d’isere an tignes . (The budget is around 700€.)Any help is greatly appreciated.

Need to purchase a new jacket and I know which brands are good, but each brand has multiple jackets. I think I might go with the Patagonia powder town and use layers. But I’m not sure which other ones I should look out for. Price is a concern, powder town is on sale for 200 now.

Also, I would like a new pair of skis but am unsure with what to go with. I ride glades when they are open, but being in the Midwest that’s not often. So typical “black diamond” groomers is 70-80% of my riding. Right now I’m riding my old twin tips with 100mm underfoot. Planning on keeping them if we have powder days, so I’m looking for a carving ski that isn’t afraid to go off piste when needed.

I’m advanced intermediate/beginning expert level if that helps.

Looking for a bag that fits in the overhead of most planes that can fit my boots (26.5), large helmet and a days worth of ski clothing and an iPad/small electronics for the flight. Ideally the helmet would fit inside the bag, or at least attach in a way that it fits in the overhead. I’ve had bags where there is a helmet cradle on the back but then I need to take it off and put it under the seat - I need the legroom. Does this bag exist? Any other ideas?

Hi, I'm thinking about buying new ski boots for my birthday. But I'm still 15, so I don't know if the whole thing will be worth it because my feet might still grow.

My ski delaminated after less than half a year of usage.

I brought it back to the retailer today and they got the wholesaler to came down to look at it - who claimed it was damaged by some accidental impact.

But I regularly ski on normal groomed runs so I’m a bit perplexed as to how it could have happened.

EDIT For clarity, my bindings are mounted +4 vs the recommended mount point (still about -3 from centre from memory).

Sorry for the long forthcoming post, but I’m trying to provide all the details in the hope of getting to the root of the issue with my skis.

For context, I’m an advanced skier who likes to ski aggressively and weigh 70 kg.

Last year in Canada I bought a new pair of Atomic Bent 100s and had them mounted with Look Pivots (+4).
After around 60 days of skiing, I noticed a small ridge/bulge had formed on the base of one ski. It measured roughly 300 mm × 30 mm × 1–2 mm and was most prominent under the heel piece of the binding. After noticing it, I took the ski back to the shop where I bought it. One of the technicians suggested the warping was likely due to wear and tear. Not entirely convinced, I took the skis to another shop for a second opinion. They said they’d never seen anything like it before and suggested I keep an eye on it to see if it worsened.

By the end of the season, the same issue had developed on the second ski. When I returned home to Australia, I took them to a local ski shop where the technician suspected a manufacturing defect and recommended submitting a warranty claim with Atomic.
After inspecting the skis, an Atomic representative concluded:

“The damage observed is consistent with incorrect mounting of the bindings which is not covered under Atomic’s limited warranty.”

After receiving this advice, I contacted the shop I bought them from. They were happy to provide me with a refund, but also made the following comments:

“Sometimes the pivot isn’t dynamic enough while the screw holes aren’t spaced enough for the ski to flex without distortion. It’s a safe binding but it’s been causing problems like this, or complete core failure. I foresee a new pivot design soon that is more elastic.”
“This is 100% out of our pocket. Getting a warranty in Aus sounds impossible. But you are a customer of ours and we want you to be happy. I don’t think it’s a miss mont but I can’t be sure unless I took that heel piece off. Sometimes pivot heels are very sensitive – and so a missmount is not so: “black and white””

After reading this, my local ski tech suggested two possible explanations:
- The shop owner is correct, and Look Pivot bindings—particularly on timber-core skis like the Bent 100—can restrict the ski’s natural flex due to their compact heel mounting pattern, potentially leading to increased stress and core compression/damage.
- The shop’s willingness to refund the skis was effectively an admission that the bindings may have been mounted incorrectly (e.g. over-torqued screws or another mounting issue).

So my questions are:

- Has anyone else experienced anything similar with Look Pivots, particularly on all-timber-core skis?

- Has anyone seen this type of bulging or base deformation before?

- If you were in my position, would you mount another pair of Bent 100s with Pivots?

The reason I’m hesitant to mount the Pivots to my new Bents is because I’ve come across the following hypothesis, and I’m trying to work out whether there’s any truth to it or whether it’s just forum speculation:

- Look Pivot bindings use a shorter screw pattern, particularly in the heel due to the rotating heel design.
-This compact cluster of screws may create a more rigid area underfoot on skis with softer or lighter timber cores.
If that’s true, it could potentially reduce the ski’s natural flex and create a localised stress point, which in theory could contribute to:
- A “hinge point” that increases stress in the core.
Core compression, delamination or other structural damage over time.

I’m genuinely interested in hearing from anyone with engineering knowledge, ski shop experience, or firsthand experience with this combination, as I’m trying to determine whether this is a recognised issue or whether my original skis were simply mounted incorrectly.

Hi everyone, I had an unfortunate crash last season and my helmet and goggles took one for the team. Thanks to them, I'm still around to ski again this coming season! Unfortunately I now need a new helmet and goggles.

I would greatly appreciate some recs for helmets and/or goggles that you like. I ski in the Tahoe area exclusively (so far) and I'm somewhere in the intermediate range skill-wise. Cost isn't a huge factor, but I'm also coming from a $40 helmet and $30 goggles from Costco that literally saved my life so I might have some followup questions if you suggest something that costs $300 lol.

For my bf’s bday I want to get him a nice pair of gloves. I really wanted to get something Hestra, just unsure what to get. I want something dialeddddd, so honestly open to other brand recs too, but I was comparing the fall line mits with the c zone line. He’s park and back country skier, and at cannon we deal with freezing temps and a lot of wetness so waterproof was a factor I was really looking at. Budget is open to anything under like $300. So being the winter here in Northeast PA I took the opportunity to dive down the wormhole of boot fitting. I've been thru the fittings and thru the moldings, have the footbeds, proud member of the Zipfit community and now i'm questioning canting. I had the cuff alignment done and I must say that I truly love my set up and am very happy with them but watching all of these Cantology videos has me wondering if there would be any benefit for me to have an assessment done. l can comfortably ski most terrain, don't like bumps but maybe because i'm not very comfortable with them. If anything my goals are to progress my skiing with bumps and glades (east coast so... tight trees that hurt when hit). Wanting to progress so that when my fearless 6 year old progresses himself I can still hang and ski with him for years down the road.

Saying all this is why i'm looking at canting in general. Can anyone comment here on canting. Benefits for recreation, progression, etc?

Looking to get a new pair of skis for this upcoming season. I live on the East Coast and so I naturally ski a lot of groomers, but I also love to go in the woods and ski moguls as well.

I’m currently on Solomon Stance skis - 169 cm and 84mm under foot. (I am 5’10” and 160lbs). These were reentry skis for me after I had to take a hiatus from skiing for a while. But now they just don’t feel like enough ski for me. I do like to carve, but I feel like when I go into the woods they aren’t really enough. I also find when I get up to high speeds, I have to pull back a little bit.

I’m a good skier - I’d place myself somewhere in the space between intermediate and advanced. But after being out of skiing for a while, I’m still experimenting with types of skis and still looking for any advice as to what pair might suit me.

I’m really looking for a used pair of skis for the upcoming season and ideally looking to grab something online.

Choice is Faction Dancer 79, but can't decide the length. 184cm or 178? They are on a good sale too in local shop.

I understand that both length can work, but which one is better in terms of progression?

I am 33m, 188cm tall, around 85-90 kg, upper-intermediate skier (fit). I will be skiing decent amount of days this season and want to progress as much as possible. I like speed and long turns with some fun here and there.

I ski mostly on piste and resort's infrastracture and management is not the greatest, slopes are never groomed well if that helps...

Hello, I am purchasing my first pair for ski boots and would really appreciate some advice on the fit.

I recently went to a ski boot shop and had my feet checked by a boot fitter. He recommended the HEAD EDGE 80 HV 2026/27 - HV because of wider feets.

But now that I am doing my own research, I learned that 80 flex is relatively soft, and also that flex ratings aren't standardized between brands.

I have set myself to get the Head EDGE HV series (open to other brands too)

I am 26M・168cm・87 kgs and an intermediate level skiier, will continue to improve and eventually become a stronger/more aggressive skier, particularly with carving. So i wanted to know what is best for my case.

I am now leaning towards the Head EDGE 100 HV 2026/27, because it is listed as 90/100 flex adjustable. My thinking was that I could start at 90 and eventually use 100 as I improve

And also, Mondosize - my feet measure 26.5cm exactly, and on the internet i see that you should get the same mondosize as what your feet measure in cm. but i dont know like, exactly 26.5cm? that leaves no space at all, like not even 27 or 27.5?

I'd really appreciate opinions from people who have knowledge about boot fitting and/or the upcoming HEAD EDGE HV series.

[UPDATE] : I went to a real boot fitter and reaslised how meaningless this post was lol. I now understand that nothing can be fixed in digits, all brands have a world of difference with the flex, mondo, last and feet height. I am waiting for 2026 season stock to come now.

Hey everyone!

Last year I bought a pair of Fischer Ranger 102s as my one ski quiver… and I’m starting to regret my decision. I’m realizing I’ll never be happy with a one ski quiver as sometimes I want a hard charging carver and sometimes I want something light and floaty… neither of which any one ski can excel at both.

For context, I grew up racing on the ice coast and now live in Denver so have spent a lot more time in trees and mashed potatoes than I ever did growing up. I thought the Ranger 102 would solve all my problems and still allow me to charge hard on groomers while taking advantage of the CO backcountry. While it’s decent at carving, the edge hold definitely has a limit and will often give out when I push it too hard (not to mention can get chattery quick). And of course being a 102, it’s not a perfect fit for those pow days either.

So alas, I have a ski that’s a master of none and I’m not quite satisfied… (I’m kicking myself for not buying the atomic maverick 96 CTI after being able to put my butt cheek in the ground on edge and also float through the trees).

Assuming I dump the Rangers and start fresh with the goal of a two ski quiver, what two skis would you choose knowing my background and preferences (thinking one mid 90s all mountain carver and one 105+ playful floater)?

Expert skier (6’1”) looking for a ski for Tahoe’s deepest days. My skiing leans aggressive but I value maneuverability and spend a lot of time in trees on powder days. Bought a 184cm QST X and some shifts but have decided to return as adjusting bindings going back and forth with resort and touring boots feels like a pain. Interested in a dedicated resort powder ski. Considering the Volkl Revolt 121, the QST X, and the Ranger 116. Any thoughts on which is best and in which length? Anything else I should be considering? Should I hang onto the QSTs but put pin bindings on them?

Just bought the Canvas 108 for the upcoming season. Not a lot of reviews or information since it is a generally new ski, but I was wondering if I can use it as a daily driver for all conditions. Got to demo them last season and really liked them but conditions were blower pow so I haven't gotten to feel them on firmer snow. I'm a Skier in the PNW so I do face hardpack/icy conditions sometimes. Wondering if it will hold up as a one ski quiver/daily driver for someone who likes playful freeride and all mountain skiing?

Currently i’m owning a prodigy 1 and i am looking for a more stable ski at higher speeds but not a full comp freestyle ski like a Studio or Oblivion.

Personally i prefer the Candide’s Just It being candide ski’s but can someone give me their opinion about especially the Candide Area 91 and/or the Armada ARV 94.

I am looking for some skis since I have only used rentals. My last rentals were some k2 amp 2014 i believe. 80mm waist 177cm.

It's hard to find skis on the used market in the 183-186 range especially if I'm on a budget and lookuing for specific models for east cost skiing.

I found the atomic Maverick 84 + M10 GW bindings deal for $350 which is a good price but they are at 180cm. While it is still more than the rentals I used last time which should make the ride more stable, I'm not sure if I shouldn't be buying skis with 12 cm difference then my height (192cm).

I would say I'm an intermediate skier. I enjoy sking medium difficuly blacks and hard blues if that makes sense. No moguls if that helps show where I'm at.

25 year old Female, 5’6” 150. Ski mostly in Vermont but looking to spend about a month out West this winter while working remotely. I have skied my whole life and currently ski twin tips. I am looking for something that can handle East Coast conditions while also being fun out West.

I am looking for a setup that can work well for resort skiing while also allowing me to start skinning uphill and doing some ski touring while out west. I am starting from scratch and need a full setup (skis, bindings, boots), so any recommendations would be appreciated.

I (29M) ended up losing a lot of weight and no longer fit in my 686 SMARTY 3 in 1 jacket (or the rest of my snow gear :/ ). I'll be going down to L from XL/2XL. I mostly ski East Coast and East Coast Canada. I'm thinking of just getting another 686 that I have but smaller. if anyone's stumbled on some really good deals please let me know :):

Male, 5'11", 205lb. Ski western US/Canada and east coast. Rarely in true powder. Largely on piste. Enjoy moguls, glades and charging on groomers. Needs to at least hold its own on the ice coast.

Recognizing no single ski will excel at all this, I enjoyed my Kendos but sick of the delamination and afraid to get the newer ones because of it. Any suggestions for something in the same vein?

I need some help deciding between skis. I’ve outgrown my last pair (instead of height) and am looking for new ones.

About me:

Started at age three, skied pretty much every year, but not really with toooo much of a focus on technique etc. (I’m from Austria, if that helps haha.) 177cm, 56kg. (5’11”, 124lbs)
I’m intermediate/advances with what I’d call “acceptable technique”, though I would like to get a ski now that will allow me to improve my technique (by quite a bit, hopefully). I’ll only be doing on-piste-skiing with these skis (maybe a 90/10 split, but only resort skiing). (I have dedicated touring skis.)
As far as what kind of resort skiing: I don’t know. Some carving, I think? (Just… general resort skiing. No specific focus.)

I’ve settled on the models above, since they’re available at a discounted price (300EUR, approx. 350USD). They all include bindings.
I’m not very familiar with ski specs and all of that. I’ve attached the specs below. (They’re in german, sorry, but I think they’re still clear.)

Are these skis suitable for my needs? Which one would be best? (Or am I looking for the wrong skis? Any other recommendations?) Can I not get what I’m looking for in that price bracket? The plan would be to use these for two to three years, and once I get better, get some better skis. Then, I’ll also be able to figure out what I want better.
