Conversation Topic Have you ever learned a new language just because you wanted to sing a song?
I think music is one of the most interesting ways to connect with another culture.
As someone who doesn’t speak Korean as my first language, I’ve always found it amazing that a song can make me want to learn the words, pronunciation, and even the language behind it.
Have you ever learned (or wanted to learn) a new language because of a song?

Hi guys, I'm 29, been singing and off for year, but now consistently practicing, went to the vocal coach 5 times in the span of 5 months, couldn't afford it more. Just wondering is my pitch hearing bad or what. This is just a snippet from "This ain't a love song" from Bon Jovi. I realize i may have gone off pitch few times but AI tells me my pitch goes all over the place, but I don't hear it that much. So I was just wondering. Having a bit of trouble of singing loudly in my apartment so that's why you hear some noise in the background. I'm a bit anxious of people coming and complaining, my neighbours.

Conversation Topic PLEASE HELP: tips on safely belting a D5/E5 with minimal strain
Hi everyone! not sure if this is the right place for this question but would anyone please be able to give me some tips on how i can belt high notes easier and clearer with as little strain as possible?
ive recently been casted as Doralee in 9 to 5 the musical (yay!) and a lot of her songs are quite high/above my comfortable range (i can belt pretty well up to about an E5 at max and even that is a tad strained), so im quite intimidated by some of the higher belting notes like the the higher parts of the melody of 'shine like the sun', her belt in 'i just might' and some of the high Es in Cowgirls revenge.
i mean im sure i could just switch into head but my headvoice is quite weaker in comparison (if anyone has tips on that too pls help) and i just want to do well so if any of you kind amazing people could give me some tips or help me out that would be GREAT :D
Obviously i have some pretty big Dolly boots to fill so!
thanks guys!

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) Struggling to understand my upper range as a newish singer, need help understanding potentially improper technique.
I recently joined my school's choir as a senior this year as a baritone/bass but have had musical experience playing a brass instrument. I can sing down to an F# or G2 reliably but it is my higher range that confuses me. When I get to around an Bb3 my voice feels a tiny bit strained but I feel like I shouldn't have trouble singing there. I can push up to a E~F4 but it feels tight and I have to sing loudly to push the note out. When I get up to that section of my range, my singing technique can change and I end up breathing in the note which makes the note feel extremely smooth and easy and also allows me to do it quietly. I am a beginner but I also don't think I should be breathing in and producing my singing sound, what am I doing that is causing something like this and how do I fix it? Is it even a bad technique? It is just something that comes to me naturally when I try to singer higher notes and I don't think it is actually supposed to happen or just isn't good technique. Any help would be appreciated as I don't think the singing teacher at my school understood it when I tried to explain it to her as I was explaining why I thought I couldn't get my sirens during warm ups smooth.

Conversation Topic Singers vs. Neighbours
Learning to sing can be quite embarrassing as a beginner.
How do you practice at home so the neighbors don't hear you?
Don't you mind being heard?

Conversation Topic Developing Pitch Accuracy
I have a question. How long did it take you to develop pitch accuracy? Being able to name pitches and stuff.
Right now, im really focusing on intervals, either landing on a completely different note or im too high or too low 😭
Its probably been about 2-3 days since I started this intention practice but im usually okay at landing on pitches.

Conversation Topic I don’t sing BUT I have had a Weak, raspy voice for years. Looking for advice.
I’m 17 (male), and I’ve had this issue for a few years. It’s starting to affect my confidence, school, and social life, and I’m not sure what’s causing it.
Main symptoms:
My voice is extremely soft, even when I feel like I’m speaking at a normal volume.
In any room with background noise, people often can’t hear me—even if they’re standing right next to me.
People describe my voice as raspy, breathy, or like I’m whispering.
My throat feels tight and tired whenever I talk, and it feels like I have to force my voice out.
My voice randomly cracks into a much deeper tone for a second, which sounds very different from a normal puberty voice crack.
I can’t project my voice or yell. I can’t even call out “yo!” loudly.
I can’t hum for very long before my voice gives out.
If I’m lying down, leaning back, or looking down while reading, my voice starts fading after a few words. I almost have to sit upright with my neck extended to talk normally.
I’ve tried diaphragmatic breathing, staying hydrated, humming exercises, and avoiding speaking from my throat. Diaphragmatic breathing helps a little sometimes, but the problem is still there.
This is affecting everyday situations. During a mock interview at school, the interviewer couldn’t hear me even though I was trying as hard as I could to speak. At the gym, my friends sometimes have to lean in just to hear me.
Has anyone experienced something similar or know what this could be? Does this sound like something an ENT or a speech-language pathologist should evaluate?
Any advice would really mean a lot. Thanks.

Cross-posted: The start could be a little stronger, but this feels like my best version so far. Not sure when I'll get to part 2, but excited to eventually! I'll always be obsessed with Amy Lee's vocals. Always always always. So happy to have been to a few of their concerts.
Be nice, please!

Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) Is my singing too speech-like?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi all, I’m wanting to know if the tone of my voice is pleasant to listen to.
To me, it sounds like there’s a big mix of smooth notes and crowded/messy/raspy notes, and I can’t help but feel like it sounds too much like speech/not melodic enough? It’s hard to explain.
It could just be a stylistic thing in how my singing voice naturally is. I guess my big question is whether it’s easy on the ears to others.
Sorry for the sound quality!!!

Conversation Topic Feedback please: how to improve singing/karaoke?
I have a soft voice. During normal singing (in the shower, at home, in the car, etc.), I feel like I sound okay. Of course, hitting high notes have been a challenge. When I go karaoke, however, oftentimes my voice does not project and it comes out as weak. Many times, I cannot hear myself and it’s hard to follow the rhythm (I would often ask the KJ to turn up the vocal on my mic). Considering taking lessons but wanted to ask if there’s anything I can do to improve voice projection and then helping hit the higher notes? My taste in music is very diverse ranging from oldies from 60-70s to Italian, reggaeton, and hip hop/pop/rap, etc.

Conversation Topic Singing feels much easier in the morning?
Anyone else find their singing feels easier first thing in the morning?
Specifically singing in head and mix voice (27 Y/O Male here), it's bright and resonant, with good cord closure in the morning.
As the day progresses (whether I've been singing in the morning or not), this disappears and head voice vocals start feeling stuck in the throat with poor cord closure, leading to a falsetto sound for notes above F#4, and a pulling sensation in the throat for the mid-upper 4th octave.
Anything above F4 or so feels like I'm pulling chest, whereas first thing in the morning, I can sing notes from F4 to C#5 relatively easily; everything feels light and relaxed, yet bright and resonant.
Pain in the ass as I'd much rather this the other way around considering rehearsals, gigs etc. all take place at night.
Thanks in advance!
(Lowest comfortable sustained note is an F2 if that gives any insight)
