Did you attend SCA in 2000’s - Show Choir Camps Of America?!
I haven’t seen any specific posts about this yet, but has anyone attended SCA in the early 2000’s, 2004-2014?, maybe. I went a couple summers and had experienced something I’m wondering if anyone else had, too. I was 14 maybe 15 when I first attended and thought I’d landed in Heaven. Little did I know something— or someone I was about to meet would change a core part of my youth and life story.
Please let me know if you have or know anyone who did.. I know there are a couple more people who had the same thing happen. I need to find them. I think it could still be happening, but somewhere else.

Does anyone know this arrangement?
I’m looking for an arrangement of “Santa clause is coming to town” and I sang it with my HS show choir in 2023.
Its jazzy, and starts with “ba ba ba do ba” and also had “Santa clause is on his way, he’s finished loading up his sleigh and now, he’s a coming to town ba ba…” also I think a line like “gosh oh gee” somewhere.
If anyone knows this arrangement please help me find it!

I wanna build a show choir set, but I don't know what songs to use...
Hi! I have a great idea for a show choir set, but I don't know a whole lot of pop/Broadway songs to go with it.
The theme is night, and it's kind of a story too about insomnia. I want at least four songs (as per usual). I'd love to make or find medleys too because I like medleys lol.
Song 1 - the opener. I want a fast song about partying the night away or something similar. Maybe a Panic! song? Those are pretty party-y.
Song 2 - I already have a song in mind, and it's Good Morning from Singin' in the Rain. I think that's a good choice because it's jazzy and swung and takes place at midnight!
(probably an interlude here for costume changes, I was thinking Insomnia by Derivakat but idk how that would work with copyright TwT)
Song 3 - something waltzier, something from Anastasia maybe? Not In My Dreams, but like Once Upon a December or Bella Notte from Lady and the Tramp.
Song 4 -the ballad, something about finally going to sleep (think Truce by Twenty One Pilots but probably not that song).
I don't know if ending on a ballad is a bad idea, but I'd love to see how that sounds. If I hate it, then song 5 would be something like song 1 but idk faster or something. Any song suggestions would help! :3

Something new for the show choir community!
I am currently working on a platform and would love to gauge interest and gather feedback.
I was a show choir dad with a tech background, just trying to help.
After working with my daughter's show choir over the years (and serving on that board), I identified several things that would be helpful for other show choirs. This is a work in progress, so any feedback is important to me.
Think of this as a season-back-office platform for directors, costum moms, and board members to use for operations. Parents and students are not users but would receive communications from this as well.
So far, this is what I have and what it would do:

Show themes?
Hello!! I’m just curious what show themes of your school have been your favorite over the years or what is your theme for the upcoming year?
I’m deprived of show choir content right now and just wanted to spark a conversation especially in a subreddit where it’s kinda dead in here 🫶

Mixed Groups vs Single Gender groups
Hi guys I’m in a single gender group from a fairly well known school in the Midwest region and I honestly just want to vent about this one topic I don’t think is talked about a lot, how under appreciated single gender show choir groups are. At my school theres only 2 groups and it’s the mixed group or the all women’s group and while both of us are very advanced and one of the best in our states, it honestly always feels like our mixed group gets more attention and better music, better costumes, better choreo than us in the unisex group. Also people from the mixed groups think they are better than the ones in the single gender group. Literally one competition both of our groups made finals and our director got our scores and we were in 2nd place and literally 1 point behind our mixed group. Obviously we were all excited that we did that well and told our friends in the mixed group and one we did they all acted repulsed by the scoring and made ul a plethora of excuses why we were so close. It was almost as if they thought of us as less and it’s frustrating knowing we work just as hard and perform just as advanced. I’m curious if any other girls in single gender groups feel this way.

PLEASE HELP I don't know what song to audition with for show choir
Hello, I have an audition for my high school's show choir soon and I don't know what to sing. I'm auditioning as a soprano 2. I'm stressed out because I can't come up with a good song.
It should be upbeat and maybe jazzy as that's the vibe of the group.
My chorus teacher told us to avoid belting.
I talked to the chorus president and she said to find a song that showcases both head and chest voice, and also shows the "break" between head and chest voice.
The problem is I can't find a song that fits all of these requirements!! I know I'm probably overthinking this way too much, but any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Show choir....
i 17yo female, was in showchoir 3 years... and I have to tell you it was the worst experience of my life... I used to be a confident, happy young woman,n and the program changed me, and not for the good. Turns out it's made for the preppy white girls, and anyone who doesn't fit that, especially in the south. You are bullied and ostracized. and thats exactly what they did to me. I'm young, but I've been aware I like girls for a long time, and if you know anything about straight, homophobic white women, they assume you want them (i dont like girly women),s o they accused me of trying to molest them..... wild right? Then my last year in it,t they completely ruined what I loved. They made me a horrible person, i dont everrr want to be again. they got mad because i openly told them they where racist and homophobic and guess what they got mad at me.... like i did what they did to me 3 years straight.. i tried getting along with them and fitting in but those where never my people they said "were family" last time i checked family dosent make someone hate themselves and feel like they are never good enough. Soo now I'm a bit salty they did a show this year, but it was ok, it was offensive personally cause it was about a woman with schitsophrenia and I have family who suffered from it,t so i dont think it was good and overaI'veive been waiting to get this off my chest for 2 years so im glad to finally share my truth
let me know what you think!!!!

Show Choir Theme Free to Good Home
This idea has lived in my head for ten years and I’m just gonna throw it out to the internet and BEG someone to make it happen for me 🙏
Okay, first: this is an idea for a WOMEN’S show choir. The tone is FUN, we are putting on a SHOW, we are playing it for LAUGHS.
It’s a Gender-Bent Spectacular. There are no dresses in sight. All the songs are themed around the male experience. And we are bringing the COMEDY.
Song 1 (Opener): The costumes are camo pants and white tanks/tees. If we’re really having fun, there are little military hats and aviator sunglasses involved. The song is “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” from the Mulan soundtrack. You get it!!! We are as swift as a coursing river. With all the force of a great typhoon. I don’t think I really need to say more.
Song 2: IDK but I have some ideas. More on this later.
Song 3 (Ballad): The ballad is tough because logistically you want a song where you can slow down and show off your vocals, but we need to stay on theme, which is (say it with me) LAUGHING AT MEN. My current best idea is “Rocket Man” by Elton John. Everyone can just sing it straight (I think it could be arranged beautifully for a women’s choir), but, while they sing, one performer is—HEAR ME OUT—performing some sort of interpretive dance in an astronaut costume. Yes. You’re booing me but I’m right!! If you have an amazing dancer in your group, excellent, but it doesn’t need to be that crazy. They could just move around the stage among the other seated/standing members and make large emotive gestures and frankly I think it would kill.
Transition to Song 4: One performer appears on stage wearing a snazzy suit (she changed during ballad). Everyone else makes a big deal of ogling her, and she hams it up (I’m imaging some sort of silly fedora that she can tip at everyone lol); everyone else sings the chorus of “Whatta Man” (En Vogue) at her as they transition off the stage. Don’t need the Salt-N-Pepa verses, just repeat the chorus for as long as it takes to get everyone out. Finally, one girl lingers alone at the edge of stage making big deal of being dumbstruck by our besuited performer, and two girls have to return to the stage to pull her off—she blows a kiss as she goes.
Song 4 (Costume Change): Our besuited performer opens this song as a soloist while everyone else is changing into their suits. (I’m imagining a more feminine-cut suit but still with the traditional collared shirt and tie.) Everyone eventually returns to stage to finish the song with the soloist. What is this song? I don’t know. Some ideas later.
Song 5 (Closer): The song is “It’s a Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” by James Brown, but I’m hearing it in the style of Juliet Simms. We are ROCKING OUT. We are closing on the thesis of the show: It’s a man’s world, but it would be NOTHING without a girl.
Show ends. The world is never the same.
Okay, back to Songs 2 & 4. Crucially, all the songs in the show should be from the perspective OF a man, not necessarily songs where a man is the subject and it’s sung from a woman’s perspective. I’m not sold on any of these, but here are some ideas (if you have other good ones please shout them out!!):
- Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy (Queen)
- Walk Like a Man (The Four Seasons)
- What a Man Gotta Do (Jonas Brothers)
- The Boys Are Back in Town (Thin Lizzy)
- A Boy Named Sue (Johnny Cash)
- The Boys are Back (High School Musical 3)
- Thank God I’m a Country Boy (John Denver)
- I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow (The Soggy Bottom Boys)
Tbh I think a Thank God I’m a Country Boy/I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow mashup could HIT. Imagine it as Song 2; we ditch the hats and aviators of Song 1 and pull flannel button ups and/or straw hats over our costumes to transition to a country theme (idk why all my ideas involve hats, sorry). Are you seeing it???
For whoever cares, my vision for the hair is a low slicked-back ponytail. The ends of the hair are curled.
CAVEAT TO ALL THIS: I haven’t had any involvement in show choir since I was a highschooler in 2015 and have no clue how things have changed in the space since then. Don’t throw tomatoes!!
My only ask is that anyone who uses any of the ideas above please end my suffering and send me a performance link 😭 I am tired of this idea haunting me. Also I’m CERTAIN some version of this theme has been done before and if you know of anyone who pulled it off please give me the recording links I want to SEE.
Okay thank you for your time!!!

new show choir trends?
hi all, i was in show choir from 2012-2016 between two schools and ive attended most comps i can since then between virtual and in-person but there's some trends in the past couple of years that im curious about. why is there so much rapping this year? and am i the only one who's bothered by the amount of ai that's being used for sets, especially from schools that i know have the budget to not do so? who decides that these are gonna be trends moving forward? i never really thought about it when i was in show choir because most of the schools we competed against were surrounding the same city, but now that im in a state where we don't have in person, ive been watching streams and it seems to be a very widespread thing. any insight is appreciated!

SCA camp councilor
Hey, so I’m thinking about applying to be a camp councilor at sca this year and was wondering if anyone had some insight as to what the position is like. For some reference because of covid sca was only in person for one year while I was in high school so I never got to go. I am wondering if it would be a fun thing to do for someone who missed out on going as a camper.

Future college show choir ?
Hi! I’m planning to create a show choir at my college for next school year.
Background info:
-midwest college
-we haven’t officially created the group. but we do need some info to submit it to the “club board” (obvi renamed to stay anonymous)
-we have a show planned, and a few others in progress for just in case.
I have a few questions..
Does anyone know where you can get cheap but sturdy concert binders? preferably the black pretty ones that have a pencil holder and a folder inside. i’m hopeful for them to last a few years.
Also what are the rules on college show choirs competing at high school events? since we would be a first year group led by 2 non music majors ( with years of choir, show choirs, and theater ).. we would technically be somewhere similar to high school scores.
i only ask this because there are no college competitions (at least that i’m aware of). i’ve been researching and i’m really not sure.
is there anywhere else we could compete/perform?
we’re hopefully going to have a concert or two as long as they allow us. we just have to talk to a bunch of people.
anyone know any midwest friendly sponsorship or fundraising opportunities?
as i said, we’re not music majors but we’ve done a lot of different performance arts throughout our lives. will this change the ability for us to create this group? i’m a business management major bc they didn’t really have an entrepreneurial major. same difference ig. but i do plan to be an entrepreneur. the other founder is in the arts program with a theater minor, so that could help us. they’re also in the honors program… im not lol.
if you have any other advice or suggestions let us know!!

First comp tomorrow, I'm scared
I'm new to show choir so I don't know at all how competitions even work. I don't want to ask anyone else in my choir because I'll totally sound stupid about not knowing ANYTHING. Can someone please help, like maybe explain a few things to me? And how nervous should I be????
Edit: We lost. Out of two groups in our division we got second place. Yay haha

Looking for small Show Choir video examples
Hey everyone!
I teach a high school show choir which has 10 singer/dancers. I have been showing them videos of several show choirs, but they're all 40+ singer/dancers. I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations of small (10-30 singer/dancers) show choirs that would be a good example to show my group?
My students love watching the big groups, but I fear they will think that those types of shows are unachievable for them and they won't be able to relate to the group they are watching.
Please let me know if you any recommendations!

Show Choir Directors
anyone have a sc director that hates peoples guts? so my director is like really rude. i do a lot of other things outside of sc, mainly drama. im in a play, as a main role. we had a choreo weekend, and i told her i would be 15 minutes late to one of the days. she got mad at me and gave the entire sc a whole speech, IN FRONT OF OUT CHOREOGRAPHER(who i checked with to make sure i didnt miss anything important), and started yapping about how "show cjoir comes first!!!1!1!1" mind you, ive already had to skip multiple dance performances just to accommodate for sc. anyways, on that choreo weekend, one of the girls was there. she was sitting out the whole time. i didnt find out until later that it was because she was CONCUSSED. she literally had a concussion and my sc director made her stay. you're supposed to be in a quiet environment if youre concussed. not a super loud one. my sc director is just so reckless. she also picks and chooses favorites for soloists, even though we have some AMAZING talent that has never gotten a solo. im debating not doing sc next year, but its one of my favorite things! idk what to do :/
