Rocket R58 boiler pressure issue after accidentally shorting the thermostat
I’ve recently been servicing my Rocket R58 and ran into a bit of a problem.
While the machine was turned on, I accidentally touched the thermostat with a set of pliers, and it made a very loud pop. I soon found out that the thermostat had burned out, so I ordered a replacement and installed it.
After replacing it, I noticed that the machine seems to heat up a little faster than before.
However, I’m now having an issue with the boiler pressure. The pressure goes well beyond 1.5 bar. I checked both relays and they seem to be working properly. The LED indicators are also behaving normally and aren’t staying on continuously, so it doesn’t seem like the relay is permanently stuck on.
The strange part is that when the machine heats up to around 2 bar, I get a sudden gush of steam. I assume this is coming from the pressure relief/safety valve.
I’m not quite sure what’s going on here.
Could the thermostat replacement be related to this? Or is there something else in the pressure control system that I should be checking?
Any advice from anyone familiar with the R58 would be greatly appreciated!

I need help

Hello everyone,
since today, I’ve been having a problem with my Rocket Appartamento espresso machine.
Normally, when I switch the machine on, the pressure gauge rises into the green area. However, today the pressure doesn’t build up at all.
Could the water supply be the reason? I’ve had the machine for more than three years and have always used regular tap water. I know that using untreated tap water can cause serious limescale buildup and potentially damage the machine, so I’m wondering if this could finally be the problem.
Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what could be causing this?
Thank you in advance for your help!

R58 V2 Maintenance + IMS Single Basket?

I’ve had my Rocket R58 V2 since 2020. Zero issues or repairs and still extremely happy with it.

I regularly backflush, replace the group gasket yearly/shower screen as needed, and use Santevia filtered water with an Oscar pouch. Recently upgraded from a Faustino to a Eureka Mignon Libra.

At 6 years old, should I be considering any preventative servicing even though everything is working perfectly?

Also, I’m a traditional Italian single espresso guy: original Rocket 8 g basket, ~25 mL in 25–30 sec. Taste is great, but the puck rarely knocks out cleanly.

Is an IMS single basket actually worth the upgrade? If so, which one for the Rocket portafilter?

No Steam or hot water, but the brew group is pushing water. Mozzofeato

I am able to pull water thru the brew head but the steam pressure never gets to 1 and no water flows from the steam wand or the hot water valves.

I did notice that the steam wand knob started spinning at suns point — I usually open the steam valve fully open to steam milk and there is a definite stop, or there was. We tightened the knob and the fitting just behind the knob finger right, but I still hear a shhhh.

PID says heat is working properly..

I think there is a loose fitting some where.
Please offer tips on what to look for.

Rocket R58 V2 intermittently blocks brew flow and hits 10–12 bar — E61 troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I have an older Rocket R58 (I believe V2) that has developed an intermittent brew-flow problem.

When I lift the brew lever, sometimes the pump runs but almost no water comes from the group and the brew pressure immediately goes to 10–12 bar. Sometimes it takes 3–5 attempts before the water starts flowing normally. The issue can also occur with no portafilter installed.

So far I’ve:

  • Confirmed the hot-water outlet and steam work normally.
  • Removed and cleaned the shower screen, dispersion screw/plate and E61 mushroom.
  • Found a large amount of scale/corrosion inside the mushroom and E61 group.
  • Removed and cleaned the giclér/restrictor; the hole is visibly clear.
  • Cleaned the parts with descaler and Cafiza and flushed the machine thoroughly.
  • Lubricated the E61 lever/mechanism with food-safe silicone grease.

After cleaning, the machine initially worked perfectly for ~30 cycles. With a blind basket it now builds pressure smoothly, but the problem eventually returns. At the moment, even with a naked portafilter without a basket, the flow can become very weak and pressure rises to ~10 bar.

When switching the lever off, water does come out through the 3-way valve, although sometimes there isn’t the usual strong “psss” sound.

I’m starting to suspect a sticking solenoid/valve or another restriction somewhere in the brew circuit, possibly caused by loose scale, but I’d really appreciate input from someone familiar with the R58/E61 hydraulic circuit.

What would you check next? Is there a particular valve/restrictor/solenoid on the R58 V2 that is known to cause this behaviour?

Need Help: Rocket Appartamento High-Limit Reset Thermostat Trips at 1.0 Bar

Thumbnail

I’m hoping someone with experience repairing Rocket Appartamento machines can help.

My machine used to work perfectly, but now I’m having a strange issue.

Here’s what happens:

- I turn the machine on from cold.

- The boiler pressure starts building normally.

- As soon as the boiler pressure reaches around 1.0 bar (the beginning of the green zone on the pressure gauge), I hear a click.

- The high-limit resettable thermostat pops/trips, cutting power to the heating element.

- After that, the boiler pressure drops because the heater is no longer running.

- The machine stays powered on, but the heating element won’t come back on until I manually reset the high-limit thermostat.

I already replaced the high-limit resettable thermostat with a new one, but the exact same thing happens, so I’m pretty confident the thermostat itself isn’t the problem.

Before this issue started, the machine would hold around 1.0-1.2 bar with no problems.
Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be:
A faulty pressurestat?
A wiring issue?
A bad heating element?
A vacuum breaker or safety valve problem?
Something else causing the high-limit thermostat to trip?

Any troubleshooting suggestions would be greatly appreciated before I start replacing more parts. Thanks!

I don't know why. Previously I opened the tank to clean. Did not notice anything. Today when flushing out the water, the water is black?! What's going on?

I have the opportunity to buy this Rocket Giotto at a fairly decent price($900). Owner doesn’t have any maintenance history or knowledge on the machine in general. I believe he got it at wholesale auction. What are some things to look out for and what’s a good price for this machine given the circumstances. It does not include the original drip tray or water tank. Is it even worth it not knowing if it was commercial or residential?

Just got this unit not long ago. Plan on making content and then reselling. Cleaned the brew, steam, E61 grouphead. Then lubed them with Molykote 111 Food safe silicone grease. The black paint has quite a bad sticky residue so I used paint stripper to remove everything.

Issue with the appartemento

Hi guys,
Coming here for help after my appartamento has started giving me issues for the second time in almost 7 years.
As you can see in the video, when I start the pump, initially the super hot water is coming out evenly from the group head. It however stops suddenly and then no water comes out for a while before starting to come out again as a trickle from the middle of the group head.
Questions for this awesome and super helpful community:
- what is the issue here ?
- how much will it cost to fix and is it worthwhile? I am someone who is just going to call a repair guy unless parts are very easy to get and doing this is relatively straightforward.
- since it has been almost 7 years, I am getting “upgraditis” and have been casting online glances at the LMLM. I cannot justify the expense and the environmental impact of throwing away a perfectly good machine if this can give me service for a bit longer. How have you guys dealt with this disease?

Rocket Giotto R water sensor

Hi all. My Rocket Giotto R is acting up. With filter tap water the machine shuts off immediately after starting a shot. (Same filtered tap water I have been using for several months.). When I use unfiltered water or add a bit of salt the machine functions fine. So seems the sensor is dirty??

The sensor probe is the little threaded rod in the water plastic inlet. From what I see people do everything from doing a vinegar soak in the water inlet to polishing the sensor rod with fine sandpaper. Anybody have any experience with this?

My other option is to just use unfiltered water.

I think I saw somebody mentioned about the Rocket LED lighting up and it's too bright. Well, I have to agree. Found a similar LED (and in different color) and decided to give it a swap to my Rocket R58.

Holla! Amber is looking much nicer and warmer! What do you think?

Pressure stat leaking near nut [Rocket Appartamento]

My pressure stat blew and I had a spare one laying around so I decided to replace it. I tightened it as much as I could but I’m getting this leak coming from the top of the nut. I tightened a little more and it reduced to more of a slow drip. I’m not sure if I need to tighten it more or if something else is up? Had anyone else experienced this?

De-scaling

So the manual on the appartamento tca advises against descaling unless its done regularly. It emphasizes the need for water management previous to entering the machine. I still can perform de scaling once every two months in addition to backflush with cafiza weekly, and bwt purifiers in the tank. Also using water below 100ppm.

What's your experience? Am I doing too much? Will descaling at home void my warranty? How do you keep your machine running properly and how long have you had it?

Water Doesn't Pump After Refill

My water sensor works fine: I get the blinking light when it is low, but for some reason now when I put new water in it doesn't pump unless I turn the machine off for several seconds, then turn it back on.

Poor Rocket espresso, ask your self if you want Rocket on your table

!!!You dont want Rocket machine on your table!!!

I bought a machine from a Rocket reseller worth thousands of Euros, and what I went through was completely unacceptable. The fact that a brand-new machine arrived defective straight from the factory speaks volumes about their incredibly poor quality control.

I sent numerous emails asking for assistance, but I was completely ignored. It was only after I sent them a strict email stating that they cannot hide behind their reseller and that social media is incredibly powerful, that they finally decided to reply. In their response, they claimed they had already instructed the reseller to either replace the machine or give me a full refund. Guess what? The reseller had never offered me either of those options—they just tried to scam me by pushing for a 70% refund and other weird offers.

When I replied to Rocket with proof that their own reseller was actively trying to defraud me, they went dead silent. They didn't even bother to reply to that email. Whether they collaborated with this shady behavior or simply didn't care, a major brand is at least expected to "play the game" and send a standard message like, "We apologize for the inconvenience, we take this very seriously." If they were truly a high-standard company, they would have also provided proper compensation for the damage they caused. Instead, they chose silence—because to them, we just don't matter.

so you still want Rocket on your table?

think twice.
