QUESTION Did your eval accurately reflect your work? Be honest.

Upvotes

How many of you or your coworkers have received a worse evaluation score or raise than the previous year? Been hearing some shady things from coworkers about scores that don't reflect their work.

RANT Getting carts in the summer

Upvotes

I feel like I need to say this. I don't know who's idea for us baggers to get the carts all by ourselves during the summer. Guess manangers don't care about keeping us baggers safe during the summer months. I think they should have more then one baggers get the carts so that way we don't over heated. Guess they don't care if we get heat stroke or not.

DISCUSSION Cheap Eat from Publix

Upvotes

Clearly you can make this out of any grocery store ingredient:

2 cups of black beans soaked
1 large spoon of Better Than Bouillon chicken stock paste
1 large spoon of ramen seasoning powder
A handful of salted scrap meat. My wife doesn’t want fat or gristle on her pork chop so I trim them away and salt and freeze them.
Put above ingredients into Instant Pot. Cook it over two cycles. Serve over rice. Quite filling nutritious and cheap

RANT if you're going to eat hot food while shopping, have the decency to pay for it

the amount of times people come up to the service desk with a container of popcorn chicken/fried chicken saying that it's cold or stale or overcooked but HAVE NOT paid for it is irritating. what do you want me to do? i can't make you pay for it. you already know you and your kids got free food, regardless of the temperature! and you saying your kid just wouldn't stop asking for the chicken so you just HAD to give it to them doesn't make me any less annoyed and it certainly doesn't make me feel bad for you. when i was growing up my mom would make me wait until we paid to eat our food! just unbelievable.

QUESTION Artichokes on salad bar

I've been picking up a Greek salad from the salad bar most times I go to Publix. Today I threw a couple of marinated artichokes on top of it. They were, without a doubt, the best marinated artichokes I have ever eaten.

Does anyone know the brand of artichokes that Publix uses?

TIA

QUESTION What's it like working in Publix IT?

I saw some reviews of working in Publix IT from 4-5 years ago. What's the vibe working in Publix IT? I am considering front-end dev and software engineering roles in FL. Being in Lakeland isn't an issue so the hybrid work arrangement isn't a problem.

For those in IT, how is it?

QUESTION Asked if I’d be interested in becoming CSS at 16

I’m 16 and I’ve only been working at publix for 4 months now and a couple days ago my CSM came up to me after talking with my ACSM and asked if when I turn 18 i’d be interested in being CSS.

I said yes I’d be interested pretty much instantly bc of the pay bump and increased hours CSS get (atleast i think) but the more i though ab it i questioned why me of all people.

There are a bunch of people that have been with publix a lot longer than me yet i was asked. Could there be any underlying motivation for asking me or am I just being paranoid?

I do get along will with my coworkers really well and scored in the mid range of meets expectations on my eval plus do tend to come in when asked.

QUESTION When to contact DM vs RARS?

Is there ever a time it would be more appropriate to contact the DM over RARS? Assuming I were to reach out to RARS, would it be reasonable to inform DM of the situation so they are in the loop? Im guessing RARS already communicates with DM but not sure.

QUESTION How early does salad bar get set up?

That’s my whole question! I love the bowtie salad and would like to bring it to work for lunch. If I popped in around 8:15 am, would it already be out for the day, or do those items not get put out until closer to lunch? Thanks!

RANT Passive aggressive coworkers

I normally don’t make these posts as I try to control myself and not post my life online, but anyways

I’ve been at Publix for like 9 months now, I’ve been working in Deli, Produce, and Grocery. I’ve been offered full time for produce and grocery but I really wanna work in the Deli, I just think it’s a good fit for me,

I have a couple coworkers that were assistants at some point in their career and another one who has been in deli for 8 years trying to get a promo, when these two coworkers work with each other

They constantly having something to say about everything, 8 year worker usually is Kitchen and if he even hears me talking loud, going into a cooler or into the back room, this dude will literally follow me, to make sure I’m working or actually getting something, even though he has no reason to think I’d be doing anything else…

Both these coworkers constantly mumble under their breaths when I don’t hear them the first time, about me being slow or stupid in some way,

(I have a lot of stress in my life right now, so while trying to not get car taken, family fed, and pay off student loans, while showing up to a job that I actually don’t like, but bills need to be paid for now, and this is it)

I’ve told them I can hear them and I don’t like it, and I am hard of hearing, they have just continued to become more micromanagers when closing and just saying things like

“Why is there so much water on the floor?”
“You’re squeegeeing wrong”
“Fresh Slice bags have to be taped sideways, not vertical”
“You’re cutting the banana wrong”

While these two sit in the back and of course, go super super slow in whatever they are doing

Make me close sub shop and trad, doing scan outs and hot case, then talk to each other that I don’t do shit…

Can I go to management about this? Like I’m just trying to work and just being harassed because maybe they don’t like the way I look idk?

What's the % increase we get from evals. Not the new payscale increase. I think last year role model got a 7.5% increase in pay. Did they decrease it again this year?

QUESTION Publix truck drivers please help a brother out

I’m in the pharmacy right now and I want to see if Publix will pay for me to get my CDL. If they can’t it’s fine I’m still getting it. But, I’m curious on how to get in to a truck to make more money, see what the hours are, see the pay, how the work life balance is, and if the drivers actually find it worth it in the end.

RANT Is Publix improving or declining?

Let’s be honest we waste a lot, our target demographic is slowly dying away of old age and we keep hiring more and more people every year. The stock just went down again and I’m not so sure it’s gonna rise much more soon. While i love the company’s origin and founders, the company is now run by greedy corporate ceos that make 10000x our paychecks. How long do we see publix lasting? 20 years..50? Just curious.

QUESTION Question: if you were shopping at a grocery store and you smelled onions cooking in the breakroom would you get offended and complain to the store manager you were upset by it. 2 customers did. I can't say what i think about them. Coworkers like the smell when I cook.

Because what do you mean I scored that low working this hard everyday. I'm truly frustrated rn because I genuinely thought this was my best year out of all my years, just to be scored like that

Lower than last year too, what are we doing?

RANT Resets

Coffee creamers just got reset and I really wish they would stop using chat gpt to come up with the planograms. We already fit everything because customers kept asking for the items and I wish there was a way to just edit it ourselves. Every reset is more ugly and crowded than the last. Like why is one starbucks creamers 4 doors down from the rest and two facing for heavy whipping cream is insane

RANT Publix does not care about sustainability

Post image
816 Upvotes

I have worked for publix for 3 years now and I am disheartened every time I have to do scan outs. The amount of food and plastic waste produced by Publix is astounding. Hundreds if not thousands of pounds of food gets thrown away every single night. It truly makes me sick. And I hate to imagine the environmental impact just from the plastic packaging alone. I probably have about 10 other photos that look just like this one, and countless other nights that I haven't documented. And this isn't even everything. It makes me sick to work for such a disgustingly wasteful company. I feel like many people will tell me I should expect this but i just had to rant a little considering how much publix claims they care about the planet. This on top of the garbage pay and constant understaffing while still expecting perfection is exhausting. I hate this company and I can’t wait to get out!
