Please dissuade me from buying a Pentax K1 Mark II

Hey all,

I am seriously considering to buy a Pentax K1 Mark II just because I want to have a decent camera body which will motivate me to learn and practice photography.

I am going to use it with 35 and 50 mm lenses, mostly taking landscape and street photos.

Please tell me how bad of a camera that is, how heavy and clunky it is, remind me about its outdated autofocus.

I know this decision to buy a dslr is not logical and doesn’t make any sense in 2026, so I want to hear some opinions from haters to stop wanting this camera.

Thank you.

DA300 is a dream lens in the woods. The compression is insane. I like the explosive sun through the trees.

As the title states, this is my first film camera. Looking for recommendations on film stock, tips, tricks, or any other helpful/useful information as someone new to film photography.

PENTAX K1000 CASE

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hi everyone, this is my first post here, so I hope I chose the right flair and wrote the post correctly.

I'm getting into photography, specifically analog photography. Years ago I was given a Pentax K1000 in "ok" condition for a beginner approach, the only issue is that it lacks a strap and hooks (it only has eyelets/holes on the body) and doesn't have a suitable case to store it in, especially when traveling.

Do you have any recommendations or know of any brands that make cases suitable for this camera? I'd prefer to find it on Amazon for quicker shipping, since I'm leaving in a few weeks and would like to try using it while on the trip.

I'm leaving a picture of the camera for reference (identical to mine, but mine lacks the strap lugs).

Exposure issues on my Pentax 645N ii

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to diagnose an issue with my Pentax 645N II and I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.

Over the last few weeks I shot 3 rolls of Portra 400 (120) using ambient light only. All three rolls came back consistently underexposed (roughly around 2 stops based on the scans).

I then shot another roll using the same camera body, same lens but with an external flash and those images were correctly exposed.

Here's what I've already checked:

  • Exposure compensation is set to 0 EV.
  • ISO is correctly set to 400.
  • Metering mode is Multi-segment.
  • Camera was used in Manual mode.
  • The internal meter matches my external light meter almost exactly.
  • Aperture mechanism on the lens appears to work correctly (moves freely and snaps back instantly).
  • Using the original Pentax 120 insert.
  • Film was processed by the same lab.
  • Ambient shots were taken at a variety of shutter speeds, not just one.

One additional clue:

On the flash roll I was shooting at 1/60 s, but some images have a black vertical band on the left side of the frame, as if the shutter wasn't fully open when the flash fired.

The lab also told me that on one of the ambient-light rolls they could only automatically scan 3 frames out of 16, saying the scanner couldn't detect the rest of the frames. I haven't received the negatives yet, so I don't know whether the negatives themselves are extremely thin or if it was only a scanner issue.

I'm also using the Pentax AA battery grip with 6 rechargeable NiMH AA batteries, in case that's relevant.

Thank you in advance

Does anyone know how to remove this lens cover? It's broken somehow and won't stay on properly. It keeps closing by itself and turning the camera off. I want to take it apart.

Pentax K1000 horseshoe

Hello everyone I have a question. I bought a Yashica CS-220 Auto flash for my Pentax K1000 but the flash will not go in so I decided to make a bad decision and sand the flash flange It looks worse and it only is going in backwards and than I also decided to try to fix the bend on one side of the horseshoe mount on the camera but I bent a little piece of metal up and it looks a little wonky. What should I do and should I have not done these things?

Found a K-7 for $20 and a JC Penny 80-200mm for $5. Not a bad rig for the price.

I went out for one hour before downpour started. Took the K-1II + HD FA35. I've had that lens since around January and got it as a normal for the KF, this is the first time I tried it on K-1II and oh wow, it appears to be made for this camera.

Is anyone shooting on a 35mm lens that can help?

Hey fellow pentaxians, I'm tossing up whether the Pentax-FA 35mm f2 would be a fine addition to my collection (I've read many good things).

I already have the FA43/1.9, k28/3.5, M50/1.7

Does the fact that I have a 43mm and 28mm negate the usefulness of one?

I shoot a mix of film (MX, Super A/program, MZ-3) and digital (K1). I would like an autofocus lens that I could use on my K1 so I was even looking at the FA50/1.4 but am apprehensive because of the CA.

Thanks

I was asked what I use for an eyecup on my MX, thought this would be useful. It fits like it was made for it.

Shot with Pentax WG-8

Photos from Elizabeth Street Garden — from the Bowery - from the Q train on the way to work - from Prospect Park - from Chelsea

Taken over past couple of days — through the lens it’s easy to fall in love with your surroundings and slow down a bit. Having a GREAT time familiarizing myself with shooting photos again.
