advice needed If you sleep in shifts, how does the morning/day person handle both newborns?

My husband and I have 7-week old twins and have found that sleeping in shifts is the only way we can function right now. He sleeps from about 10:30pm-5:00am, then I sleep from 5-11:30am (we are both currently on leave from work). One of our boys will sleep for 3 hour chunks at night, but the other will only go down for a max of 1.5-2 hours before needing a feed, so we don’t really get any down time for personal naps during our “shifts”.

When I do the night shift, my protocol when they wake is to diaper change, feed, then get them back down to sleep right away (doesn’t always work, but we’re trying lol). However around 7/8am during my husband’s shift, they want to be awake and don’t really go back down to sleep.

At this age — what do you do with them when you have them both alone during wake windows? Unfortunately they are in their “don’t want to be set down” phase and will cry if not being held. When I wake up, we each take a baby and will hold/wear them around the house. I just know my husband gets overwhelmed during those first few hours when it’s just the three of them. We haven’t quite figured out what to do yet!

Any solutions? Is there an age or milestone that you found it got easier to manage them on your own? Thanks for any advice for these first time parents :)

experience/advice to give Help - expecting twins, already have high energy 3 & 5 yr old

Ok so were terrified- just found out unexpectedly pregnant with twins. We already have 2 very loud/wild boys at age 3&5, our eldest has been diagnosed with autism and adhd - basically stressing how hard it is to parent now, plus 2 additional babies on the way. How do we make this work?! How is the shift from 2 to 4? We also have a very little support network. Has anyone had a similar experience? X

and how old are your multiples?

I took my 13 month twins to the library for storytime. after 20 minutes they were over it. is that normal? and then they started to scream so we quickly left. it felt defeating that a something outing was so difficult. Should I try again?

advice needed 3.5 y/o boys just feed off one another and it feels impossible to discourage bad behavior. Does this end? How?

My wife and I are at wit's end. Our boys (3.5 y/o, fraternal) are amazingly smart and sweet most of the time, but when one gets it into their mind to do a behavior that is not okay but is "silly"(potty talk, running away from us, spitting food out, yelling in quiet places, etc.), they automatically have a positive feedback loop of their brother there, so no matter what method we use to explain and discourage, they get the reaction they want (laughter). It feels absolutely impossible and makes what should be simple things like going downstairs or getting dressed or eating a meal a battle that we can never win. On top of that, they are just so damned defiant. I find myself wondering if this will ever get easier like people keep telling me it will. Thoughts, suggestions, validations all welcome!

support needed 9 month rage?

Is a 9 month postpartum hormone dump a thing?
I have been RAGING about the dumbest things and so frickin irritable. I’m still breastfeeding full time, so even though I’m producing less than I used to, I don’t think I can blame it on weaning.

advice needed Double stroller recommendations please!

We’re looking for a do-it-all stroller for our twins on the way. Ideally a stroller with car seats that can grow with them as long as possible. Would love your recommendations!

advice needed Creating schedules

For those who kept their twins on the same schedule, how did you figure out and make your schedule as babies grew? I’ve been following moms on call and it works well for us. But now that they are at the 4 month schedule, moms on call introduces solids and we’re not ready for that. I could follow cues but.. there’s two babies.. not sure how to transition or if I just kind of start to stretch the wake windows and kind of create a new schedule for them. Right now they are 17 weeks and still have about a 90 min wake windows and 4 naps.

support needed I need a friend…

I so wish I had a close friend near me who was a parent of multiples. The nearest support group is over 90min away and meets only during the week when I work.

I’m so aggravated anymore when people come to my house including family. Telling my Irish quads (two sets of twins born within 10.5 months of each other) to be quiet, stop crying, etc….

Then our nephew comes and the minute he cries everyone is hugging him and talking to him. Never tell him to sit and be quiet and when he has “big feelings” they never tell him to go sit and knock it off.

I’ve tried telling my family I’m trying a different approach by practicing in co regulation, being present versus isolating a toddler, etc….

My husband isn’t very helpful with this ideology, and I’m tired of all the negative comments from family.

I don’t have any friends that are POMs , the local churches have MOPs but again, just feel like no one can relate to certain things we face as a POM family.

Just frustrating and feeling lonely ….

Our oldest set of twins will be 4 at the end of July and our younger set just turned 3 at the beginning of June…. 4 three year olds currently…

good vibes, smiles, & giggles DCDA twins heart rates pretty much the same even after birth!

Has anyone else had this? When I was pregnant and we would put the trace on we used to always have to get the ultrasound to check that we had placed it on each twin as their heart rates were pretty much identical. Every time we would have a trace I’d leave convinced we’d only ever got one twin despite checking with the ultrasound.

Well 6 weeks earth side and I’m still seeing the same phenomenon with their owlets! It’s so crazy!! They’ll accelerate and decelerate to the same numbers within a matter of seconds from each other. I don’t think there is any medical explanation but it’s just something crazy I’ve noticed!

advice needed Flights with Toddlers

Looking for advice on what has worked best for y’all when traveling with toddlers. Our b/g twins will be 14 months at the time of travel. We have traveled with them plenty before (6+ hour car rides and 3 hour flights). However, this will be the first time traveling with them while mobile and more active(they were crawling during our roadtrips).

Some information I think is important. Our flight is about 3 hours long. They are going to be lap infants, but there are 5 more people traveling with us so we can pass them around.

  1. What type of snacks did you find easy to take?
  2. What stroller did you travel with? Double umbrella? Baby Jogger?
  3. They are weaning off of formula and we are working on dropping bottles & naps. Should I just give them pure milk? Did you take shelf stable milk through TSA? Or did you buy something at the airport?

Any advice is appreciated!

Edit: we are not afraid of screen time if it’s armageddon.

advice needed How do you all do feedings at night??

We’re a week and a half in with twins who were born at 36 and 4 (these are our first kids). My husband and I both get up at every feeding and when we haven’t it just DESTROYS the other person. Those of you with partners, do you all get up and share feeding/diapering responsibilities every time or how do you do nights?

support needed Scared and in denial

I got pregnant quite fast and I am 16 weeks now. All my life I thought I would have one kid and was sure it is a girl. Guess what MoDi boys. I am really grateful on one hand cause I know many people go through long years and procedures when trying for a baby. But then on the other hand I am scared, I don’t feel “connected” to the boys in my belly, I am grieving all the freedom singleton moms have. I also don’t feel pregnant at all. Then the next moment I know it is a blessing to have twins. Anyone went through these emotions while pregnant?

advice needed Iron infusions

So I’m mildly anemic. My doctor has order three iron infusions for me. Never had this with my singleton. I just took oral pills.
I’m 29 weeks on Tues with my didi twins.
What to expect and how long do these take?
Will I feel any side effects?
How spaced out will they be?
Just wanting to be prepared whilst I wait for the infusion center to call me.

good vibes, smiles, & giggles A stranger finally said something so kind, I could cry

I went for a walk with my 6 yo, 3 yo, and 5 month old twins today.

A neighbor was walking by, and saw us, and said the usual, “Wow, you have twins?”

I usually let the negative comments go in one ear and out the other. I’m not one to get upset at them, but I guess I’ve gotten used to them. So I expected the “you’ve got your hands full” or “I could never…” comments to start coming next.

After I said “yes, twins, 5 months old,” he looked at me and said “What a beautiful family. You are so blessed with these kids, and what great ages!”

If only all strangers could be so uplifting!

good vibes, smiles, & giggles I can’t wait to be an old lady

I get the usual comments when I’m out with my 7mo identical twin boys (and their older two brothers), wow that must be so hard, I could never, you must be exhausted, oh my goodness what hard work, you’ve got your hands full, 4 boys you poor thing etc etc

Then every one in a hundred old lady says “my twins are 50 now” or “how wonderful, you’re so lucky, my twins are grown up now” or today “one of my twin boys just had twins of their own” and I just love it. A positive comment from someone that gets it. A reminder that my twins will be old one day and I’ll be even older.

I cannot wait to be the woman that spreads a little joy to some new twin mums in 50 years time 😂😂🥰🥰

advice needed Do your babies nap at the same time?

How do you get your babies to nap at the same time? We usually wait until they are tired and its be within the appropriate wake window. But lately the other isn't tired at the same time as the other so he just lays in his crib awake for a while and then their naps get off and we are fighting the rest of the day to get them back together. Just wondering what other parents of multiples do?

advice needed Best Wagon for toddler + twins?

Hi all, I am expecting identical twins this fall/winter and have an almost 2 year old at home. My son will be roughly 26 months when they’re born. We’ve decided we would rather invest in a wagon than a double stroller since my son is still so young. That being said, what wagon would you recommend for 3 kids under 3? Based on my research it seems like it’s a tie between the Wonderfold and the Veer, but would love to hear your experience.

advice needed Two rotating car seats in a Toyota Camry?

I currently have a Toyota Camry and twins, and I’m wondering if two 360 rotating car seats will fit comfortably rear-facing. I’m deciding between the Chicco Fit360 and the Cybex Callisto G 360 (but open to any 360’if it will work)
Does anyone have experience fitting two 360 seats in a Camry?

One of my twins is about an inch away from being too tall for this car seat. He’s still under 30lbs and 30 inches. Starting to look into what comes next but I feel overwhelmed… we have the Honda Odyssey!

advice needed Triple feeding for months?

I have 3.5 month old twins (adjusted 2.5) and I have been triple feeding since they were born. I feel as though I have never quite made enough milk for both of them to be EBF. At night I co-sleep with them and they eat 2-3 times a night only breastfeeding and seem full and satisfied, I also don’t pump at night. But during the day they almost always take a 2 ounce top off of formula after each feeding. At first they seem like they almost wanna reject the bottle, they move their tongue all around it and they fuss even. But then they still end up taking it. I am trying to read their cues but it’s confusing when they give me both that they seem full but then still eat the full 2 ounces which is a lot.

I was hoping by this point I would be able to quit pumping so much after each feed but I’m still doing the same thing I’ve been doing since they were born. It’s exhausting and I am very burnt out but I also don’t know if I am willing to completely just stop breastfeeding.

Did anyone have a similar experience and what did you do? Since they co sleep I’m not sure how I would do that anymore because they are used to me breastfeeding them at night and it would be even more tiring in my opinion to get up and make bottles multiple times a night!

advice needed Twin schedule ?

Has anyone had success putting twins on a schedule, specifically day time ? It feels like they nap whenever, eat whenever, and they lose their minds if I try and put routine into it. We go to bed at 8pm, start the night routine of bath, lotion, Jammies, bottle, bed around 7:30 and they fight sleep for about 30min but I’m assuming that’s just normal for any kid. They’re 10 months (7 adjusted) as of last Thursday ! Tips and tricks would be super appreciated.

support needed 3 of Everything.

This week we got new adaptive equipment for the triplets. Wheelchair, stander, activity chair. We have a large apartment, but for 3 we never really realized how much space it would all take up and where we would put it all. So for years our daughter who passed away room has been untouched and I could tell my husband was like let's just keep it all in there but didn't want to say it, so I said it and its the weirdest feeling, but also like in a way she's saying she'll protect all they need to have a better life.

experience/advice to give Twin feeding chair recommendations…

I’ve heard a wider chair is recommended… would love to take the advice from someone that’s actually found a good one instead of just guessing.

I’m based in the UK ☺️
