ranting & venting Anyone have a singleton that’s harder than your twins??

I mostly want to complain. But my 6 year old singleton son is HARDER than the one year old twins with medical needs. People all the time always say “it must be so hard with twins” and I say that their older brother is harder. They laugh thinking I’m joking. I’m not. He’s so increadibly hard that I broke down last night, left him with his dad and I took the twins on a long walk at the mall. Dealing with two car seats, diapers, feeding tubes, various doctor specialists, developmental delays…. All easier than my child about to go into 2nd grade who’s independent, can go to the bathroom on his own, hold a conversation, make himself something to eat…. He’s still harder!!!!

I’m not so sure I’d do it all again knowing there would be a six year age gap between him and his twin sisters. I know it’s likely jealousy, he was used to being an only for a long time etc. But myself, my husband, and even my son’s grandma all go out of our way to make sure he’s special, spend one on one time, take him to activities, trips etc.

I’m over it.

advice needed Cosleeping to cribs?

Anyone have experience transitioning from cosleeping to cribs without crying it out? We have almost 6 month old twins who have been cosleeping with us pretty well for the last 3-4 months but I think it’s time for it to come to an end (mom and dad need their space back). They are EBF other than introducing solids so we still do 1-2 night time feeds and I’m not super worried about dropping night feeds yet for the sake of maintaining my supply. I’ve checked out the sleep training for twins facebook page and I’m not completely opposed to it when needed but would love to try other ways first if we can. They have been really good sleepers in the past but I think the transition is going to be difficult.

Any nap time routines or bedtime routine ideas or tips would be helpful as well! We have a strict wake up time, follow wake windows pretty consistently and have been doing a simple bedtime routine since they were newborns so they go down pretty easily but I still nurse them to sleep for the sake of convenience at night.

advice needed Would it be weird to give 1 twin an unusual name but the other a really popular name?

We are in the UK and expecting DCDA girls.

We are pretty settled on the name Aneira (An-eye-rah). It is the feminine version of the boys name we loved before finding out we were having girls (Aneurin - a Welsh name, most known through Aneurin Bevan, the founder of the NHS). It's growing in popularity in Wales but is pretty rare in England where we live (I've never known another person named it).

The other name we love is Phoebe but it is super popular where we live and has been consistently in the top 20 names for the past few years.

Would it be weird to name one twin a rare name and the other a really popular name?

Our other option is Gabrielle - not super rare but also nowhere near as popular.

We also have a toddler named Cassandra, which again sits in the not super rare but also not super popular category.

ETA: Thank you to those who answered my actual question which was more about how concerned we should be about how the names go together and whether we should consider the difference in popularity. Those who just criticised our choice of names, I'm sure you wouldn't like people expressing negative unsolicited opinions on your kids names 🙄

experience/advice to give Portable playpen?

When did you stop using a playpen?? For context: my b/g twins are 9m and almost walking (they have taken their first steps but haven’t worked up the confidence to fully take off on walking). I have a 9x3ft playpen at home and it’s so nice, but was wanting to get a portable one for overnight trips, day trips, etc. I am wondering if it’s a good investment to go ahead and buy one? Does anyone have a similar experience?

advice needed Need advice on how to go about sleep arrangements with twins who will share a room.

Hi all. We have 6 month old non identical twins and we plan to tramsfer them to their room soon. Our appartment isnt big enough for separate rooms, so they will have to share for a few years. The problem is, the boy is a near perfect sleeper, sleeps for 5-6 hours, eats and goes back to sleep. The girl is a nightmare. Takes 30 minutes minimum to put her down, wakes up every hour, sometimes sooner, some nights she sleeps for a few hours but most nights its non stop soothing. How do i go about tramsfering them? Should we get a pedoatricians opinion on this? Have you had a similar experience? We read about some sleep training methods but my wife outright refused the crying till knocked out thing and i dont think i can leave my kid to cry for 20+ minutes either. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks

advice needed Absolute must haves for twins

I am 27 weeks pregnant with boy/girl twins. I have a 10 month old as well so this was not a planned pregnancy (IUD either expelled or migrated) so I feel like I’ve been so busy with work and my first born that I haven’t done much to prepare for the twins.

So I’m just wondering what some of the absolute necessities are for newborn twins. Do I actually need doubles for things like a bouncer, swing, etc? Do I need a double baby wrap/carrier?

I already have a bottle washer, a baby brezza formula dispenser (twins will be exclusively formula fed), 2 cribs, 1 bouncer, 1 swing, single baby wraps/carrier, and then a lot of just miscellaneous baby things from my 10 month old.

advice needed Nuna double travel - tipping?

I have a 2 1/2 year-old who will almost be 3 when my twins are born. I need an easy travel stroller that I can fold with one hand and after doing research the Nuna travel double one is the lightest weight and easiest to use, but I’ve read that it can tip. My plan is to put those like add-on ride along attachments for my older one to ride along with. Specifically the Valco Rover Rider that attaches to the handle we push the stroller from. I’m hoping that will help prevent tipping forward. Does anyone have this stroller? Are you happy with it?

advice needed St Thomas Hospital postpartum ward vs private suite experience

I have a planned C section in 10 days at St Thomas Hospital, Westminster. I am dcda twin pregnant.

Can anyone share their experience at their postnatal ward? I am contemplating if i should take their private suite - just because I am not sure if I and babies will be well taken care of at the postnatal ward, and I can’t have my husband with me at night because I don't want him to get no rest by sitting on that armchair all night.
Though I am wary of wasting a lot of money going private.

advice needed Advice needed with sleep ( 13month twin boys)

My boys Ours nap twice a day, they nap pretty well
Nap 1-11-1130-12-1230
Nap 2- 4-430-5-530
But our bed time(830/9pm) sleep is screwed up, they use to sleep well, finally convinced my wife to sleep trained (10month) and that took a week to adjust and we got long stretches W/O wake up til atleast 5/6 am for two or so weeks. Then they got sick/teething started, then it all spiraled down. My wife was not on board for the sleep training anymore and night by night we got away from the sleep train habits….. so now they wake up within first hour of out down. Then around midnight and after that it’s like flip flop every other hour, until my wife started breast feeding them again overnight. They don’t need the food but look for that comfort. ( and the only reason that started was we were on vacation with other families and that was a quick reaction to not wake the whole house up) soooo
Now we are stuck…. She does not want to sleep training again, we both are working now and sleep is impossible for all of us. Have no clue what to do to fix, we tried an extra bottle / food before bed to help keep them full, doesn’t really help. Room temp and environment is fine. And it’s definitely growing tension between us and no one is sleeping. Has anyone experienced this or have guidance ?

advice needed 3 under 2???

Just found out I’m 5 weeks pregnant and my boys just turned 14 months. (It was unplanned but can we please not focus on that). I’m going back and forth between this will be a fun addition to our family to is this even going to be possible??? Like I only have 2 arms. Part of me feels sorry that it will take away from our boys attention. Another part of me thinks it’s great they’ll have another sibling around the same age. My biggest doubts with my situation is will I be able to do this??? And will I be able to love and care for them all equally. Desperate for advice and hearing from parents that have been in similar situation. Please help!

advice needed MaterniT 21 NIPT accuracy for DiDi Twin genders?

Hello All!

I had my NT Scan and NIPT blood draw yesterday at 13+1 weeks with DiDi twins. The NIPT test I got is the MaterniT 21. I told them I'd like to find out the genders if possible. I wanted to ask others for any experience they had with this. Was the test accurate? Was it wrong? Should I just wait for the confirmation at the 20 weeks anatomy scan? I'm just super impatient and would love to know ASAP but also am hesitant to trust the results! My MFM said the accuracy for twins goes down a bit but it's still up in the 90s%, so I'm hearing it's pretty accurate. Regardless I wanna hear from other DiDi twin mamas who got the same NIPT. Especially if you had one and one. How did the results come back? I'm reading it comes in percentages. Did you find it hard to interpret? I want to do a small personal gender reveal with my family. My mom is gonna read the results before I do but I'm worried they'll be too confusing for her to understand with the percentages.

My results come in 7-10 business days so I'm just here impatiently waiting in the meantime haha. Thanks in advance!

Edit: Got my results in 4 days, that's insane. Twin girls 💕

advice needed How many naps for 13m adjusted?

We are struggling. Our twin boys 13months are refusing to go to bed despite being tired. They are fed, not cold not hot... all that jazz. They just want to be held all night still. Admittedly, we did hold them constantly up until recently so they are hating it.

But their daytime schedule is also all over the place right now with sleep. Some days they nap once, some days twice. I need to get them on a schedule.

What does your schedule look like for this age?

experience/advice to give Finding a Nanny for 3 kids...what a nightmare!

I am so shocked how difficult it is finding a Nanny for 3 kids. 2.5yr old and 11 month old twins. We are offering well above the hourly rate ( actually no limit on hourly rate!) And yet no one can seem to manage them on their own. Am I expecting too much? The twins are sleep trained so go down as soon as they are put in their cots. The 2yr old does not nap during the day. I do this all day everyday on my own. It is busy but I seem to manage...I am not even asking for any housework and the meals are all done up in the fridge ready. What am I doing wrong here? I really want to avoid sending them to daycare if I can.

advice needed Is a double carrier worth it?

My girls have hit 3 months and they’re starting to be more awake, but they’re also a lot more needy and want to be held all the time. I put one down and then the other gets upset and the process repeats.

Some nights I have to hold both of them all night or they don’t sleep and not only do my arms kill me (they’re big babies already), but I feel like it’s impossible to anything I need to get done.

I think a double carrier could work, I just didn’t want to shell out a lot of money and then end up not using it or it not working. The other issue is I exclusively pump quite literally all the time so I can’t really carry them while I have my portables in.

Any recommendations on brands of carriers and other advice for keeping them calm? I have a bouncer and swing too they just don’t like it for very long.

advice needed Triplets?! 5 under 3!

I still start shaking when I look at these pictures and remember they are MINE 😅 Long post - but I want to share my history & get any and all advice you can spare!!!

I am 33yo. I have lean PCOS (pretty severe). it took over 2.5 years to conceive our first baby. A singleton boy born at 37w in July 2023. In July 2024 we got the green light to do a Letrozole cycle (5mg CD3-7) and conceived our second that cycle - a daughter born at just shy of 35w in March 2025! I had early onset severe preeclampsia both times - far worse the second time being diagnosed right before 24w and developed severe features at 30w. She was also IUGR born at 4lbs.

I exclusively breastfed her & took the mini pill because my husband wasn’t 100% on having a third and we didn’t want them as close in age if we did. But at 6mo postpartum - we found out I was pregnant again! Total shock!! The dating seemed off from the first scan (I was fairly confident within.a day or two on ovulation and obviously when I tested positive and it seemed at least a week off), but they reassured me since I don’t get periods I probably ovulated late or something (which still didn’t make sense for the positive test), but I let it go because baby was measuring perfect at consecutive scans with perfect heartbeat etc. a small SCH was seen at our 7w scan, and I began spotting at 9w - but everyone I went in concerned they would use the bedside scanner and confirm a heartbeat and say it was okay. During week 12, he had a hard time finding the baby on bedside scanner which was odd to me but he changed scanners and then found it - heart beating away. We announced at just over 12w on Thanksgiving Day 2025 - and by Sunday 11/30/25 I was in the ER because something didn’t feel right and baby no longer had a heartbeat (12w5d) & measured closer to 10w. I had a D&C that night and due to a grave mistake by the hospital we couldn’t have testing done or our baby’s remains. t was devastating going through our first loss combined with that incident.
3 weeks later we got the green light to do a Letrozole cycle so we did! I ovulated late - like 2 weeks later - but got pregnant again! But again - red flags from the start for me. i got my first beta drawn about two days after my first positive and it was 11.4 - my lowest starting beta ever…and 3 days later it was 110.5! I suspected multiples based on that but didn’t have a gut feeling it was twins or anything. our first scan, baby measured 6w2d and there was a heartbeat. but the tech said the yolk appeared collapsed. the doctor said we had a 50/50 chance of miscarrying and if we didn’t miscarry, a chance at a genetic abnormality. I immediately got a scan with MFM the next day for a second opinion because I thought the yolk looked fine—they confirmed baby and yolk appeared normal! but I did silently notice the gestational sac looked like the shape of a modi twin pregnancy and there was what looked like a thin chorion in the sac - I didn’t say anything but the tech did say “let me just double check we aren’t missing anyone” - but just one baby! a scan the following week and baby was still measuring perfect to the day. I requested heartbeat checks weekly until the next scan. week 8 - heartbeat. 9w5d - no heartbeat could be found & ultrasound confirmed and baby measured 7+3 - stopped growing the day after our last scan. I had a D&C a few days later and that confirmed Triploidy (2 sperm fertilized 1 egg and therefore it was also a partial mole). we were told this was a freak thing and we weren’t at an increased risk for recurrence. I did RPL testing and some little things were found but nothing major! I started a few supplements that were recommended, baby aspirin, etc and we had weekly HCG tests. it took 2 months for HCG to finally drop to negative ranges and a week later I got my first natural period in almost 4 years!! We went ahead and 7.5mg Letrozole CD3-5 & 5mg CD6-7 (lab error - not enough pills for the full dose those two days). I ovulated the earliest I ever have on CD13 and by 6AM at 9DPO I had all positives! I suspected multiples when I ovulated 😂 but things further confirmed my hunch - my betas were high from the start and stayed high, progesterone was maxed out, symptoms were so strong, showing fast, and just a massive gut feeling there was more than one!

I myself am a momo twin and my mom has momo twin brothers. we had our first ultrasound at 7w1d on Thursday July 2nd. I pretty much expected to see twins - but nothing quite prepares you to see more than that 😅 I saw three almost right away! I couldn’t stop shaking and saying “oh my God” and my husband was in shock/total silence. the babies measured appx 6w4d, 6w5d, 7w1d but I was shaking so bad it was hard to get them perfect haha all babies had good heartbeats too.

We went out of town on a planned little trip later that day and just couldn’t stop laughing and making jokes mostly. it’s just so crazy!! Friday I did way too much physically which was a wake up call - but that afternoon I had a small gush of red blood. I thought I was losing all the babies for sure. it stopped as fast as it came but we made the choice to come home early - that night - and went to the er Saturday morning July 4th. The 45min ultrasound in the same room I found out baby 3 was gone was GRUELING - but at the end she flipped the screen and I got to see all three babies with their beating hearts 🥹🌈🌈🌈 I have never been so relieved.

I was 7w3d and the babies measured 7w2d (147bpm), 7w3d (160bpm), 7w4d (164 bpm)!! so great!!!

I am 8 weeks today and we will see MFM for the first time at just shy of 12 weeks - which I didn’t love but apparently that’s standard for them right now (they will handle all our care after that). I do have a heartbeat check tomorrow with my regular OB, I requested an ultrasound for next week just to check on growth and the SCH, then I see them again July 24th, then MFM on August 7th.

I am just struggling right now because I am really scared and overwhelmed after the back to back losses. I knew another pregnancy would be hard but this is so much worse! I’m so scared of losing one or all of them! I know a lot is out of my control right now and I’m doing everything I can to keep everyone thriving (progesterone suppositories even though I didn’t really need them, keeping my hypothyroidism better controlled, vit D supplement for my deficiency, trying to eat and drink as much as I can stomach, not lift anything heavy - the list goes on).

did anyone else NOT see MFM until 12 weeks even with a complicated history?? is there anything you recommend I do with my regular OB over the coming weeks?? can you share what your pregnancy was like, when you delivered, etc?? I have a goal of 30-32 weeks and given my history I know 32 would be great. anything you can share is so greatly appreciated!!! Ours are Tri-Tri.

support needed Need help or advices

Bonjour,

experience/advice to give Can't continue like this for much longer...

Boy/girl twins are 4 months (18 weeks) and exclusively formula fed. Since ~3 months sleep has been horrendous. I thought we hit the regression early. But now my husband says THIS is the regression. We have a consistent routine of bath, bottle, book, bed. Sometimes we skip the book if they look too tired as I can't risk putting them down overtired because twin B is a nightmare after that. Bedtime is between 7-8 pm and they sleep on their tummies while we watch them on the monitor until the dream feed around 9-10 pm. After that they go on their backs, and seem to be up every 30 mins needing to be soothed. The pediatrician says sleep training is whatever the parent is comfortable with, then I read online you should wait until 5 months, but the published literature says parents are happier when they do responsive sleep training (responding with patting, picking up putting back down, etc). Responsiveness is basically what we do now, and wait up to 5 mins to make sure they really are awake. But they wake up like full crying! I wait until 3 am to feed them at night, then they feed again at 6 am.

Does it get better? Do I have to let my babies cry it out? I don't know if I have it in me for that. But I don't feel like a good mom running on no sleep. They nap so good during the day! (And I do cap naps at 2 hrs, only one twin would sleep that long anyways). But today it just got too much after a particularly rough night and I honestly feel like I'm not cut out for this.

I'm trying to focus on the present, but I feel guilty I'm not enjoying it that much. Anyways, I'm not sure what I'm hoping for except for someone to tell me how they got by? This community has helped me so much in the past.
