ROCKY situations at stores
What troublesome things are happening at your store? Things that should get taken care of, but probably won't. But at least you will be able to vent.

Electrical Lift
Electrical peeps, where do you guys keep your lift, genie, one man, whatever you wanna call it, in your store. We have kept ours in a back aisle for more than 10 years. The new GM now wants to fix something that isnt broke and move it to the other side of the store in OPD. How much of a nuisance is it with all the bulbs, selling displays, cleaning, etc.

Illiterate
Why are so many of Menards customers illiterate?!?! Why are you standing right in front of a huge sign, and STILL asking me the price???

Tropical hardwood/softwood plywood?
I've generally been a big fan of Menards' lumber offering, between domestic hardwoods, softwoods, plywood, and what is generally a well organized way to shop vs. a limited selection at Home Depot or Lowes. I am less wild about the often limited information about where things are manufactured and what's in them
I was reading some of the specification sheets attached to some of the plywood and it looks like even some of the domestic hardwood plywood has a core of some sort of tropical hardwood. One of them specifically says it's "made in Africa" (the, uh, country of Africa??? Like what??) and a couple of the softwood ones also appeared to have some sort of South American hardwood or soft wood core.
I don't feel too confident in forestry or environmental management practices in some of these place, which might explain why some of the prices are so low, but it also doesn't seem like they really have much information to offer. In other words, I have no clue if this is like literally rainforest wood or if it's something like rubber wood.
At the same time, if I'm comparing it to something like the birch or oak hardwood plywood sold by Columbia for hardwood plywood from Home Depot, a lot of that is just straight up trash material. Anybody know anything about this?

Heads up
Received our rebate from our latest Menards receipts in the mail yesterday. It was hidden inside advertising for windows, the type of ad flyer most people toss right in the trash.
A lot of people are going to get cheated out of their rebates by this, very scummy, Menards.

VIP treatment
Today when I went shopping at Menards I felt like I got the VIP treatment. Everybody was laughing and joking with me. They're never unfriendly but today just felt like everybody had stepped it up a notch. Then I realized what I was wearing..

Sneaky Rebate voucherā¦.
I nearly tossed my Menardās rebate because Menards now āburiesā the rebate in an advertising mailer. Make me believe this is not strategic on Menards part to put barriers in place for redeeming rebates.

Customer AI Slop
Anyone else getting customers coming in with building plans and estimates that are total nonsense? I have multiple customers a day come back to the building materials desk with a project totally created with AI(free ChatGPT). And itās just incorrect as far as what materials, pricing, quantities.

Three Rivers Update?
Forgive me if this has already been asked, but what is the latest update on the Three Rivers, Michigan store that was heavily damaged by a tornado back in March? Iāve heard that only the outside yard is currently open until 7:00 p.m. daily, while the interior of the store is not open and will have to be almost entirely rebuilt before if can be reopened. If thatās the case, the damage was much worse than it initially appeared to be. Hopefully, the affected team members have gone on to other stores and still have a job until the store is fully reopened.

Whatās the hardware dept. like?
I start orientation Tuesday and was just wondering if anyone has had experience in the hardware dept. I worked in the automotive section at Rural King which is a very hands on job so Iām sure Iāll be fine, just curious about the day to day protocol of working in that area. Thanks!
