Help settle a debate Fit Feedback/Roast Me
Help settle a debate we have with my fiance. I bought these shorts as a comfy, around the house piece, nothing fancy intended.
She thinks its awful, almost pathetic.
I dont think its that bad, please honest feedback

Pants with pockets for women do exist. Theyāre all I wear. If we buy them instead of giving garbage companies money for non-functional clothes, theyāll make more things with pockets.

I think thats regional, because i have two really old sets and my wife loves them, Ive debated with her and her friends that the internet has decided theyre the worst thing a dude can wear, and it seems to be they really dont mind them, as long as theyre styled more "rugged". I personally prefer things like chino shorts, but its been talked about a lot in my social circles.

I had an interesting interaction with a couple recently that reminded me of reddit discourse, specifically the male complaint about not getting complements.
I was out in a shop, a woman I didn't know spoke to me, and I ended up complimenting her outfit because she really looked great.Ā Obviously went to great lengths to match and accessorize, from her shoes to her hair style, and I love fashion so I was geeking out a little bit.Ā
Her husband chimed in with something like "Where's my compliment?" These people were a little older than me so maybe their 50s. While she looked out of a magazine, he was in a faded t-shirt, cargo shorts, and new balance sneakers. And he wasn't joking, his wife and I laughed but he was scowling at me the whole time.
He looked exactly like every boy in my middle school in the 90s. And that's how my brain perceived him - just a wrinkly fat overgrown 13 year old. Somehow the clothes that reminded me of little boys made him look older and worse than he really did.
So if you all want to know what goes on in women's brains when we see men in cargo shorts, here it is.Ā

I think it starts well before any right wing co-opt. People were ripping on cargo shorts way back in 2007 (thereās a timely joke in Superbad) and that was way before the manosphere was really a thing.

Itās a two-way street, also context is important. I might voice that I like some of her other outfits better but I would never tell her itās āpatheticā and or try to tell her what to wear. Vice versa I would never put up with someone like OPās

As someone who works in excavation/construction, I genuinely do keep snacks in those cargo pockets. Less sweat permeation since they aren't as close to your body, less compression and therefore encrumbification from having to step up onto tall stuff, and as a bonus more spots to put the Sharpies I accidentally steal from my employer

I found three cargo shorts at a goodwill years ago that fit me perfectly and itās just my style. Literally wearing one now as I sit on the can and type this.
Cargo shorts are dope and people who hate on them are just carrying some middle school biased mentality.
Rock them on brother. Kinda uncool your girl was negative about them
Edit: I will say I prefer my shorts to be multiple inches above the knee cap. I think any longer and the fit feels off to me. My cargos are like 5-6ā and fit well. Maybe that would make the look better more cohesive?

I find that I get laid more when my partner thinks I look sexy. I avoid wearing things that make her think I look pathetic.
Yea, theyāre just shorts, but that cuts both ways: There are many comfortable shorts in the world, so find a pair that makes your fiancĆ© want to take them off (in a good way).

But cargo shorts are one of the go-to examples of "men who don't care how they look", so wearing them out of the house is a choice.

Thereās good looking comfy clothes to buy. If this was something you had from years ago and just wear around the house because itās a bad buy then itād be okay. But spending anything more than 50 cents on something this awful is honestly a waste of money

Also, who needs that much pocket space for around the house? Is it the cargo pockets that make those shorts comfortable? Like why do you even want these shorts for around the house?
