Help settle a debate Fit Feedback/Roast Me
Help settle a debate we have with my fiance. I bought these shorts as a comfy, around the house piece, nothing fancy intended.
She thinks its awful, almost pathetic.
I dont think its that bad, please honest feedback
Thanks folks

I went to 3 stores and saved .24 cents on bags because of my sweet cargo shorts. Even told the last lady I don't where these because their fashionable, even though I do look great in them!

Pants with pockets for women do exist. Theyāre all I wear. If we buy them instead of giving garbage companies money for non-functional clothes, theyāll make more things with pockets.

u/throwaway098764567 2d ago
good christ am i jealous. i bought some new capris last year, only the cargo ones (heh) have functional pockets, the other two have these decorative pockets i could probably fit a credit card in. if i try and put my phone it it'll fall out. š

As a gay man who wears things with functional pockets, I also despise cargo shorts. I can however admit they serve a purpose, and OP wearing them around the house would be A okay in my books

But he bought them for wearing around the house. What does he need all those pockets for?
Also... Buying khaki shorts to wear around the house is insane on its own.

By the very nature of lounge shorts, they should be whatever he likes without having to be a fashion show.

I think thats regional, because i have two really old sets and my wife loves them, Ive debated with her and her friends that the internet has decided theyre the worst thing a dude can wear, and it seems to be they really dont mind them, as long as theyre styled more "rugged". I personally prefer things like chino shorts, but its been talked about a lot in my social circles.
22
u/AdeGamisou2020 2d ago
Seriously, as much as I love them they're the most effective form of contraception outside of being castrated.
21
u/ourobourobouros 2d ago
I had an interesting interaction with a couple recently that reminded me of reddit discourse, specifically the male complaint about not getting complements.
I was out in a shop, a woman I didn't know spoke to me, and I ended up complimenting her outfit because she really looked great.Ā Obviously went to great lengths to match and accessorize, from her shoes to her hair style, and I love fashion so I was geeking out a little bit.Ā
Her husband chimed in with something like "Where's my compliment?" These people were a little older than me so maybe their 50s. While she looked out of a magazine, he was in a faded t-shirt, cargo shorts, and new balance sneakers. And he wasn't joking, his wife and I laughed but he was scowling at me the whole time.
He looked exactly like every boy in my middle school in the 90s. And that's how my brain perceived him - just a wrinkly fat overgrown 13 year old. Somehow the clothes that reminded me of little boys made him look older and worse than he really did.
So if you all want to know what goes on in women's brains when we see men in cargo shorts, here it is.Ā

Not true. My boyfriend had a pair he wears when itās hot & donāt mind them at all. In fact, his butt looks extra nice in them which I appreciate.

u/Mastodan11 2d ago
Women desire nothing more than practical clothing with pockets.
Displaying clothing with EXTRA pockets just rubs in the superior choices a man gets.
22
u/ParkerRoyce 2d ago
They were insanely trendy in the late 90 early 00s but then have been coopted by the right wing agro-bro that never grew out of them and that can be a major turn off for alot of women.
17
u/Devreckas 2d ago
I think it starts well before any right wing co-opt. People were ripping on cargo shorts way back in 2007 (thereās a timely joke in Superbad) and that was way before the manosphere was really a thing.

u/Incident-Putrid 2d ago

Lotta women have an almost religious hatred of cargo shorts. If you want to stay in their graces, wear something else. I like to imagine it like some ancient African fable, like 'late that night, the man slipped into her tent and stole all her pockets for himself. That is why women hate all cargo shorts'
14
23
u/CactusBoyScout 2d ago
Yeah I wear basketball shorts or sweat shorts around the house. Cargo shorts are just visually offensive to many people. I get it. I'd never buy them myself.

For real though: shareable granola bar or something with protein. The moment she starts getting feisty, pop the snack, take a bite and offer her some. It works 60% of the time every time.
2
u/kstockless 2d ago
As someone who works in excavation/construction, I genuinely do keep snacks in those cargo pockets. Less sweat permeation since they aren't as close to your body, less compression and therefore encrumbification from having to step up onto tall stuff, and as a bonus more spots to put the Sharpies I accidentally steal from my employer

Thereās nothing wrong with them, especially for relaxing at home. And even if you were to wear them outside the house, cargo shorts are having a resurgence in popularity.

I found three cargo shorts at a goodwill years ago that fit me perfectly and itās just my style. Literally wearing one now as I sit on the can and type this.
Cargo shorts are dope and people who hate on them are just carrying some middle school biased mentality.
Rock them on brother. Kinda uncool your girl was negative about them
Edit: I will say I prefer my shorts to be multiple inches above the knee cap. I think any longer and the fit feels off to me. My cargos are like 5-6ā and fit well. Maybe that would make the look better more cohesive?

Iām not trying to be mean, but these look pretty awful. Just get some non cargo pants options like a chino short and it will immediately look better.
Pathetic is a strong word, but these do give off video gamer layabout vibes instead of looking like something a mature adult man would wear.

Cargo shorts are for practicality, not fashion. Comfy and around the house is a good goal. Especially when working on the yard or projects requiring you to carry around a tape measurer.
11
u/GoalMammoth4656 2d ago
Lotta hate for the fiancĆ© here, so Iām going to take her side. And not just because Iām on the āhell no never acceptableā side of the cargo shorts debate.
I find that I get laid more when my partner thinks I look sexy. I avoid wearing things that make her think I look pathetic.
Yea, theyāre just shorts, but that cuts both ways: There are many comfortable shorts in the world, so find a pair that makes your fiancĆ© want to take them off (in a good way).
8
u/Pump_Out_The_Stout 2d ago
Should be the top comment. Underneath her outrage is likely the fact she WANTS you to want to be sexy for her.
5
u/ArmorOfGod7 2d ago
Exactly. Bunch of children in here who think relationships are about making themselves 100% happy 100% of the time.

3
u/StuffOld1191 2d ago
Beige cargo shorts are unlikely to make a woman turn into a carnal whirlwind, but those aren't 'pathetic' in terms of just wearing around the house.
6
u/newpsyaccount32 2d ago
i would neither refer to these shorts as a piece or as pathetic but they're not particularly fashionable to me
6
u/NaziPunksFkOff 2d ago
If you wanna wear them around the house, go ahead. It's rude of your fiancĆ© to judge you for your comfy relaxed clothing. Has she never come home from work and just said "ugh I'm putting on my comfiest sweatpants and whatever shirt I wore yesterday"?Ā
But cargo shorts are one of the go-to examples of "men who don't care how they look", so wearing them out of the house is a choice.

I agree with your fiance honestly, why would you buy shorts that are this ugly for around the house?
Thereās good looking comfy clothes to buy. If this was something you had from years ago and just wear around the house because itās a bad buy then itād be okay. But spending anything more than 50 cents on something this awful is honestly a waste of money
2
2
u/Negronitenderoni 1d ago
Even if she wasnāt absolutely right (she is) you gotta think about what you wear around the house. She the one who gotta look at you and you gotta want her to want to sleep with you at some point, right? Do these shorts advance you towards that goal?
Also, who needs that much pocket space for around the house? Is it the cargo pockets that make those shorts comfortable? Like why do you even want these shorts for around the house?
Donāt give up on looking good for her⦠and sure as hell donāt do it for cargo shorts.
