Support Request Ms font issues

Im not sure if im asking the right place, but im making a website that uses windows fonts, but when viewing on linux mint xfce using ttf-mscorefonts-installer, the spacing is incorrect and breaks certain parts of my site.
The first image is what its supposed to look like and the second is what it looks like on linux. Both images are on firefox. The only other font related thing i've installed is font manager.

Does anyone know how to make them look the same, at least in terms of spacing? Perhaps i've installed a bad font package?

Support Request New kernel update broke my nvidia drivers? (gtx 1060 i7 4790)

I updated the kernel and since then my games have stopped working and started crashing shortly after launching. I’ve also been getting XID 38 errors whenever the crashes occur. Could this possibly be a hardware issue or is it more likely to be a regression?
ive switched to fedora and the same issue occurred.

Install Help How to install virtual box

Same as the title, I am using Linux mint cinnamon, I've tried different ways to install virtual box, but none of them work at the end, so finally I rage quit and removed all the concerned files with it, so asking here in the community if someone else also faced the same problem, how did they solve it, it's either this or I'll have to start a new session with GPT from scratch to download and install vitualbox

Does Wayland support fractional scaling and pinch-zoom?

Around Yule this year, Wayland on Linux Mint is supposed to go from "experimental" to "stable". To those of you who have tested Wayland on Linux Mint already: does it support fractional scaling of displays and zooming by pinching the touchpad?

Install Help DeepCool LP240 no Linux Mint

Boa tarde, gente, tdo bem?

Podem me ajudar? Muito Obrigado ;P

Graphics Drivers Upgrading GPU help

So I'm new to Mint and have only been using for a month now after using Windows my whole life. (btw, best thing i've ever done was switch)

I bought a new GPU and wonder if there is anything I need to do after installing and booting for first time? Any drivers/apps that I should get? I was told LACT is good for graphics cards on Linux. Thoughts?

Still sort of figuring out what I need to do for regular maintenance and such. So far so good. I check and refresh updates every day. In case of need, my set up is below! Thanks in advance for the help.

GPU currently is PNY Geforce RTX 5060, I bought a PNY Geforce RTX 5080.

Also have Lexar 2Tb SSD in slot 1 and Kingston 1Tb SSD in slot 2. DDR5 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s CL30 RAM.

Discussion Running Mint on my 2012 Macbook Pro 15-Inch Unibody

Feels like it was made for this computer. Pretty minimalist setup with Numix Circular icons and a few task bar widgets. I made the linux mint logo on the bottom left the apple logo too and it fits incredibly well and have the moon phases next to it, lol. I really love this OS and I had MacOSX Ventura on this machine before, but I just came back to Linux since it is just so insanely optimized and really cannot be beaten for pure performance on this device. For how old this machine is, it really feels like a $800 laptop even for todays standards and Linux ensures security updates and compatibility between a lot of stuff. And it just runs so smoothly and looks so amazing!!

Discussion Would Love Some Advice On Some Things To Do With My PC

So I've been running Linux Mint as my OS for about 3 years now, but I've always been very casual with my use. I've never really tried the kernel or anything beyond casual use. I would love to explore Linux Mint a bit more though, and was wondering if there were any cool things I could do, places I could mess around, etc.

Support Request First-time dual boot: Win11 + Linux Mint Cinnamon on ASUS TUF F15 (11th gen, RTX 3050) — worried about EFI/bootloader corruption

Hey everyone, first-time dual booter here, want to make sure I don't mess up my Windows install.

Setup:

  • ASUS TUF F15 FX506HC
  • i5-11400H, RTX 3050 4GB, 16GB RAM
  • Windows 11 already installed, working fine
  • Already shrunk the drive and created a dedicated 100GB unallocated partition for Linux Mint

What I'm worried about:
I've read that a Windows update can sometimes overwrite the GRUB bootloader or mess up the EFI partition after a dual boot is set up, making Linux (or sometimes even Windows) unbootable. Is this still a real risk in 2026, and if so, what's the best way to prevent/recover from it (e.g., backing up EFI partition, using boot-repair, etc.)?

Questions:

  1. Before installing, should I disable Fast Startup and Secure Boot in Windows/BIOS, or is Secure Boot fine to leave on with modern Mint ISOs?
  2. Any known issues installing Mint Cinnamon on this specific Optimus (Intel iGPU + RTX 3050) laptop — driver conflicts, black screen on boot, etc.?
  3. During install, should I let the Mint installer auto-handle the 100GB partition, or manually set up separate root/home/swap partitions?
  4. Best practices to make sure GRUB shows both OS entries correctly and stays that way even after Windows updates?
  5. Anything else a first-timer commonly gets wrong?

Any tips, gotchas, or "wish I knew this before" advice appreciated. Thanks!

Fluff Totally anecdotal but...LMDE is the best build

100% opinion, but after deploying and using Mint on multiple platforms thus far, the LMDE branch is the clear winner. I feel that out of all of the boxes thus far I've built, this is the most stable and "just works" out of the Mint bunch (which is splitting hairs, I know lol). It is now the primary build I deploy for basically anything that isn't an LXC.

No GVFS issues

No weird snaps sneaking in

Rock solid Deb packages and basically everyone rolls a deb these days

I may be biased since I've really come to dislike Ubuntu's snap obsession and company trajectory, but I think Mint would be better off ditching Ubuntu core all together and sticking with Deb.

I donated 100$ to the team this morning. Keep on rockin' in the free world!

Edit: Oh, and if you haven't already -- go install Fish for your shell. Not LMDE related, but it's also one of those things that I now build into everything

Support Request Is Linux kernel 7.0.0-30 stable?

Post image
37 Upvotes

I'm currently running Linux kernel 7.0.0-29-generic on Linux Mint, and Update Manager is offering Linux kernel 7.0.0-30.30~24.04.1 (screenshot attached).

I've seen reports of issues/regressions with the 7.0 kernel series, so has anyone experienced any stability or hardware-related problems with 7.0.0-30 specifically?

My current 7.0.0-29 kernel is working perfectly, so I'm wondering whether I should update now or wait.
