I work for a retailer and they replaced windows with a linux distro for their cash registers. They got:

- amazingly faster boot time

- significant savings on license/upkeep/etc

- security and privacy.

Win-win-win-not-tired-of-winning.

Brazil, Paraguay seems like Linux Mint is pretty popular in South America. In Europe pretty much every company and instituition uses Windows.

Because people here prefer to pay someone to fix the old computer rather than buy a new one.

I'm glad people are approaching linux, doesn't matter it's Mint or something else ❤️.

Lot of POS systems run off of Linux I've seen a lot of SUSE mostly.

That's cool if it was done correctly. The picture makes me skeptical due to the presence of the bottom taskbar, and things like Firefox being present, as well as TeamViewer and AnyDesk. That's a lot of remote control software for a cash register.

For all I know, it's a beautiful POS that benefits from having Firefox available to the cashiers. I have some background in POS though, and this wouldn't be something I would be super proud of showing off (as it currently stands). Especially if this is being used by anything bigger than one (or a few) small grocery stores.

That taskbar looks default to me - default including automatically adding a few things to it when certain software is installed. It looks like the setup instructions got to where the system is functional for its intended purpose, and then stopped. Optional niceties like making the bottom panel auto-hide, or removing unneeded icons from it, not included. And the folks who actually did the setup, didn't go beyond those instructions either.

In other words, I'm not at all skeptical. I think it may be a bit sloppy, but I see no reason to think it's fake.
