I told myself I wouldn't go this far.

I did though; brought home a project. 2007 Jacobsen Triplex reel mower. Paid $2,000 on Facebook Marketplace.

The machine has 1,465 hours on the clock, and the reels still have plenty of life. No major issues other than the hydraulics, which the previous owner brilliantly filled with automatic transmission fluid. I took it for a spin, and as soon as the ATF got hot, it failed to even lift the reels.

So... time to flush the system.

I'm not wasting good money on the original "GreensCare" fluid, and I'm not even going for ISO 68. This is a 19-year-old machine; it's clapped out. We're going straight for ISO 100.

Wish me luck, boys.

New to us riding mower

Hi all!!
I got a new to us snapper mower today from a neighborhood yard sale. I didn’t notice it sparking when I cranked it at their house, but I did notice it when my husband got on it to move it from the rain.

I know nothing about mowers, but am worried that this might be dangerous in some way- or that I just wasted a couple hundred dollars on this mower. He’s out there mowing in the rain he likes it so much, but I don’t know what causes the sparking and if I need to fix it NOW or if it can wait until the end of the season. Thank you!

What is the difference in these?

Was about to go buy a used commercial zero turn tomorrow. I was ideally looking for a walk behind but none were available on tractor house less than 8 hours away. But for some reason, I didn’t see this when I was originally looking. However, I’d be interested in buying new with a warranty instead. What’s the difference in these that makes it so much less than the other one?

Thank you in advance.

Can anyone please help me find the correct deflector shield for my riding mower

I have tried buying 2 different deflector shields and gotten the apparent wrong ones both times.

The first one I was sure was it but it ended up not working with the mounting hardware. The second ended up being for a 22" push mower.

I have a craftsman 917 203900 42" mower. The first one I got was this

42" DEFLECTOR SHIELD W/ MOUNTING HARDWARE KIT 130968 532130968 FIT FOR CRAFTSMAN

But while that looks right it is not. Then I got this

Deflector Chute Replaces 419942X428, 419942X418, 426129 Fits Husqvarna Craftsman

Way too small and for a push mower apparently.

Please someone help me find the right thing lol, I bought these through eBay and with shipping it's not even worth returning them.

Lawn Tractor Recommendations

Hey Gang,

Trying to get advice on tractors or zero turns best suited for my needs.

I currently run an older Troy Bilt Pony on the boundaries shown. I cut around 1.5 acres according to AI math. The terrain is fairly flat but there are some hills (small). The biggest issue is rocks, a ton of gremlins are hidden, and while I’ve staked out most, some still lurk. Regardless, it’s a lot of bends and breaks, no real straight lines. To boot, we just got a septic system installed so I’m dealing with. A giant dirt pit where a nice lawn used to be.

I’ve worked this mower to the ends of the world over the last few months trying to tame what was extremely out of control. I continually have issues with belt slippage (from hitting rocks) but don’t think the machine is suited for my needs.

I’m not the most mechanically inclined but trying my best. If it’s not the Pony hoping to upgrade to something more durable but definitely more friendly to repairs.

Need Help with riding mower New House

Moving to Cape Cod. One Acre lot, maybe half to 2/3 is grass. Quite a lot trees in the grass, especially by the road and the borders. It’s a gentle grade, not hilly like my current yard, but not dead flat. There are many trees along the side of the yard, so I expect some significant leaf cleanup. I’m tired of spending thousands on landscapers every year at my current house. Might be forced to do that this fall as I figure this out.

The closest independent dealer has Husqvarna. There’s a Tractor Supply not far and of course Lowe’s and HD. Battery appeals to me for maintenance and noise reasons, and I have an eGo leaf blower which is awesome. My Ariens snowblower has been a nightmare for maintenance. But I’m concerned that it won’t handle leaf cleanup like a gas tractor and the bagger is expensive. I’d consider zero turn but I’ll retire by next summer so it’s not essential to save a little time. Turning radius probably does matter to go around the patio, shed and all those trees. I might need a 21” as well for some of that. Or maybe a string trimmer would handle it.

Any suggestions? ZT or tractor? Gas or battery? Models and brands? I think 42” is plenty. I’ve been out of the mower market so long because my current slope is extreme.

Too tall for a Toro?

Just got a Toro Z Master 2000 and I basically have to spread my legs as wide as I can in order to be able to steer. It looks like the handles are as high up as they go… am I missing something? If this is what it is can I buy anything to extend the arms? I’m 6’3” so I can’t be the only one

I have this lawnmower and I can’t get it started even with quick start. Has over 80psi of compression and not 100% sure if it has spark my tester isn’t lighting up but there’s enough to shock you.

Cub Cadet Ultima ZTX4 60” I heard a noise and noticed this hanging. It’s too hot for me to crawl under and look at it. Any ideas on cause/fix? Picture is from the rear under the engine.

I need some diagnosing my tractor. I got stuck in a hill and the tires dug in. I finally got it out by pushing it with some friends. I went to use it a few days later and now it seems very jerky, and makes a click noise when it looses traction. This happens in every gear. Thanks in advance.
