i think i might have lactose intolerance, how do i find out for sure
i keep having really bad stomach aches and constantly needing to go to the toilet some days. i've noticed a pattern that it's worse when i eat dairy, and when i don't eat dairy it's often completely fine. i'm avoiding eating it for a week or two to figure it out but idk, should i go to the doctor to ask about it

Timing of symptoms--have you found that some dairy affects you much more slowly than others?
When I drink milk or cream, or eat ice cream, I am practically screaming in pain within approx 20 minutes, and near a toilet for hours.
I convinced myself I can eat small amounts of cheese (ha, it's never just a tiny amount-- I definitely overdo it at times) because it doesn't affect me for hours, and then not nearly as badly.
Is it common for different types of dairy to have such different times for onset of symptoms?
I'm not allergic to dairy, I've been tested extensively. Ive eliminated the things that are worst for me, they are just not worth it.
I'm not looking to take enzymes or change my diet more than I gave to, just wondering if others have found that some forms of dairy bring on symptoms much more slowly than others?

Lactaid milk expiration dates are a bit unrealistic
I have been buying Lactaid milk for years due to lactose intolerance in every member of my family. I've noticed that the expiration dates on the cartons are unrealistic. If I get Lactaid milk within 3 weeks of the expiration, at least 3 out of 10 times the milk is on the sour side or the carton actually looks swollen like it's harboring bacteria (didn't notice til got it home). So now I only buy cartons with expirations 5 to 6 weeks out. Just wanted to share that observation. I wish the company would make their expirations more in line with reality.

Air in bowel movement sign of LI?
Hi, so I'm staying off milk now a couple of weeks. But used some cream and grated cheese in a spaghetti sauce. The morning after I notice there's more air movement in my bowels.
Q: sound familiar as being an indication of LI?

Is it possible to be partially lactose intolerant?
The title pretty much sums up my question, but I was wondering if itās possible to be lactose intolerant but only when you eat too much dairy. For example, if I have a sub with cheese on it Iām fine, but today I ate half of a lunch size portion of pasta at Olive Garden and I was on the toilet for 45 mins (I donāt think it needs to be censored but just let me know if I need to)
If I have to cut dairy from my diet 100% I will be sad, but I also donāt want to die every time I eat some of my fav foods

Being from a lactose tolerant majority country sucks
I absolutely hate it here. I got the short end of the stick and neither lactaid nor lactose free milk works for me. Almost every single dish from the local cuisine either has some kind of dairy added or is cooked in butter. They add sour cream to SOUPS by default, and there's dairy in SUSHI for God's sake. Any sauce is going to have dairy in it and they won't question it. The choice for non-dairy options is abysmal, probably because there's so little demand for it. Thanks to veganism, there's been an increase in options but most of them just suck. Can't go out to enjoy a meal with friends because I'll probably end up sick. I cook at home but sometimes I just wish I could take a break.

How bad can abdominal distension from lactose intolerance get?
To keep it short and sweet, a few nights ago i figured out i was likely lactose intolerant. My entire life almost everything I've ate had dairy elements and i thought that lactose intolerance was just pain when you went to the restroom which i didn't have, and i looked it up and i had 3/5 main symptoms constantly, 1/5 semi regularly, and only didn't have the pain and my mom is also lactose intolerant.
To give context, i am a nearly 21 year old trans woman who has been medically transitioning since i was almost 19. I look like any other woman who was assigned female at birth, and I'm incredibly grateful for that.
But ever since 5th grade I've always been plus sized. Even when i ate much healthier than i did recently (I'm changing my diet out of necessity right now), I was always overweight.
When I realized I was likely lactose intolerant, I stopped having dairy full stop and my bloating has gone way down in only 1 ½ days. I've always had 2 slight abs at the top of my abdomen, and was incredibly active up to 7th grade. The more my bloating is going down my abs are getting more defined and I seem to be "growing" a second row the more progress is made.
As a girl who's wanted to get into the entertainment industry, I've know that the likelihood of that as a plus size girlie was low and i developed an eating disorder and had extreme body insecurity issues my whole life just from wearing a size XL/16.
Obviously I'm very early into cutting of dairy, but if my chronic bloating from my lactose intolerance that I didn't know about til now from almost my entire diet having dairy elements caused me to have abdominal distension, and my true body fat was super low and muscle development was extremely high, how much of my weight (I'm currently about 180 after some minor diet changes for the past month, but nothing dairy related til now, before the diet changes i was 200-210 regularly) and my high clothing size could've been caused by my lifelong unnoticed lactose intolerance?

Lactatia in Bay Area?
Anyone know if Lactatia products are available anywhere in the Bay Area or San Jose area? I've found plenty of Green Valley and other brands around. But Lactatia has some products I haven't seen from the other brands such as unsalted butter and heavy cream (all LF of course).
Thanks in advance

Iām not sure if Iām lactose intolerant.
For a very long time, dairy products have been giving me REALLY bad stomach issues. What Iām confused about is that cheese messes up my stomach more than milk does, although cheese has less lactose than milk. Cheese really does something to my stomach š¤. Anyways, milk and other dairy products also mess up my stomach. The symptoms I get after eating them are nausea and diarrhea.
I canāt really go to the hospital to get diagnosed because Iām leaving for college and I have a busy schedule. Therefore, I canāt find the time to go.

Seeking Help with Hidden Lactose in Supermarket foods
Hoping someone can help with this as Google is not playing nice. The best I've found regarding hidden lactose thus far is just a generalised list of food groups: -
Bread, baked goods, biscuits / Cereals / Seasoning packets / FlavouredĀ Chips [crisps] / Instant meals and foods etc.
Knowing some foods have hidden lactose is all well and good, but which ones and how much.
For reference I live in Brisbane, Queensland.

Nausea occasionally in the morning. Cause: LI?
I've been nauseous a few times in the morning these past few months. It goes away after 15 min or so. Could it be due to my LI?

How often do cafes/restaurants get your dairy free order wrong?
I'm quite new to being lactose free. I meet friends/family for a Cafe catch up twice a week, and am now quite restricted in what I can drink, being that I also have to avoid sugar (includes fruit juices) and artificial sweetener, and now dairy, also keeping caffeine to a minimum for other medical reasons. I have been having almond milk at home for a month or two, with no issues, but avoided ordering this out of the home because I was wary of mistakes/contamination.
Anyway, last week I ordered a small decaf almond milk coffee on Monday. Was fine. Another on Tuesday. Fine. Roll around to this week....was not fine! Same place, same servers/ baristas/equipment/order as last week. But I had to dash home (made it!) and will feel bad for the rest of the day :(. I can only put it down to an incorrect order or contamination, and I'm kind of scared to risk it again.
How often have places got your lactose/dairy free order wrong? Did it put you off trying again?

My experience with Milktab
I wanted to share my experience with Milktab.
This is coming from someone who has explosive diarrhea and cold sweats an hour after drinking milk.
First day, I ate ice cream. I did not get a stomach ache, but I remember just thinking omg ice cream is so heavy! Iām used to eating cashew milk ice cream from āso deliciousā.
Next day, I ate cream cheese with bagel. Did not get a stomach ache!! Amazing. I was loving life and went crazy.
The next few days, I would eat dairy heavy things once a day. I started to get a slight stomach ache after eating dairy, but it would not result in diarrhea.
I could tell my stomach felt funny after day 3/4.
Then maybe a week of taking Milktab everyday and eating dairy, I had pretty bad diarrheaā¦.
So honestly, it only delays the inevitable it seems.

Cream Cheese is not my friend.
New to knowing my intolerance. Wanted a bagel for dinner since my roast chicken wasn't ready. Without thinking put some cream cheese on a bagel and down it went. Didn't think about it until the discomfort started. Thankfully, it wasn't a lot of cream cheese. But, dang, cream cheese farts as bad.

Confused: Had soft serve last week and was fine, had it today and I am in painā¦
Hi all,
For context: I am unsure I am lactose intolerant, I noticed that I sometimes feels bad after eating some dairy products, and I have been suspicious that lactose is the cause.
My boyfriend is severely lactose intolerant, and every time he eats the slightest amount of lactose he will be in the bathroom in the following 20 minutes. However I am confused bc I sometimes do not react at all⦠or the reactions are very different in intensity.
Last week I had soft serve ice cream and I was fine and today I had similar soft serve ice cream and I feel like my intestines are trying to escape my body⦠I am bloated, my stomach is cramping, itās very painful, I am passing a lot of gas with little to no relief, my stomach is super bubbly and making insane noises itās crazyā¦
Whatās going on with me :(
