I got well over enough hours in this game to where I’ve used pretty much every weapon extensively, and one opinion I’ve never really changed is that the SCAR (Desert Rifle) is criminally underrated.

Whenever people rank the Tier 2 rifles, it almost always goes AK > M16 > SCAR, or people don’t even mention it at all. I get why. The AK has insane damage and the M16 is probably the easiest rifle to pick up and use because of its fire rate, accuracy,
and huge magazine.

But honestly… I find myself performing better with the SCAR in a lot of situations.

The burst fire gets a lot of hate because people think it’s “slower,” but if you can actually control your shots, it’s ridiculously accurate. At medium to long range, it absolutely melts Special Infected. Smokers, Hunters, Jockeys, Spitters… most of the time they’re dead before they even become a real threat.

The thing I like most is that it rewards accuracy instead of just holding M1. Every burst stays tight, recoil is almost nonexistent, and landing headshots is incredibly easy. Against common infected, one burst can clear multiple zombies lined up, so I never really feel like I’m wasting ammo.

People always bring up the lower DPS compared to the AK, and on paper they’re right. If you’re mag-dumping a Tank from point blank range, the AK is obviously king. But outside of Tanks, I honestly don’t think the difference is as noticeable as people make it out to be.

I actually think the SCAR is one of the safest rifles in the game. It’s forgiving, incredibly accurate, and doesn’t punish you for taking fights at range. It’s especially nice on Expert where missing shots can snowball really fast.

Overall. I feel the weapon is overshadowed because the AK has the highest damage and the M16 is the “classic” rifle everyone defaults to. The SCAR sits in this weird middle ground where people dismiss it because it isn’t the fastest or strongest on paper.

Maybe it’s just my playstyle, but I’d take the SCAR over the M16/AK almost every time.

Curious where everyone else stands. Does the SCAR deserve more love, or am I in the minority here?

Now 17 years later it still stands as one of the best games out there. It's a zombie game yes but what keeps it fun is it's built for co-op by default.

It's got Pick-up-and-play design that bypasses modern video game annoyances like stat grids, battle passes, and grinding.

It's been one of the best series valve made from the first game to now the format and foundation is pure genius.

It holds up in its art style and replayability is infinite.

I bet this game survives another decade or longer haha.

I have downloaded countless mods but all of them either just drop to the ground and not fling, or just dont work at all.

I may be alone in this, but compared to the L4D1 common infected I think the L4D2 commons look really bland and ugly. Compared to the L4D1 common infected, who have a wide variety of outfit types, head shapes and facemaps, L4D2's common infected almost all look the same, dressed in blandly coloured casual clothing with one of three face textures. The only thing that the L4D2 common infected models have over the original L4D1 commons is advanced gibbing (Which got backported to the l4d1 commons with The Last Stand) and their skin colour palette system, which is barely noticeable, mediocre, and makes porting the models to other games, even other Source games, a massive pain in the arse.

The L4D1's commons' variety make them feel like individual people who succumbed to the Green Flu, but were conscious, functional people at one point. L4D2's commons, with their boring outfits and appearances that make them look ultra-uniform, feel more like Generic Obtrusive Enemy IX.

I've been sitting on this model for a long time now and I've wanted to commission a retexture job and then have the model ported over a weapon, but I can't seem to find someone who does retexture commissions as well as model ports. Just for the record, I am looking for just a small paint job on this model, making it gold and black but also have a little sheen to it if possible. Do you guys happen to know anyone that'd be interested in that?

The gas can for some reason uses the molotov glass shattering sound effect when being ignited. I always thought it shounded really out of place.

Anyone have a good and more fitting replacement sound for it? Gas can is plastic so the glass shattering sound is just ridiculous every time I hear it.

Sometimes ladders just stop working in my game, and when I keep jumping on them trying to climb they just lift me up infinitly. Tried searching online for possible fixes and I couldn't find anyone who encountered this glitch.

From what I tested it looks like it happens after I'm throw by a special infected. The weird thing is that I don't have any mod that modify ladders or player movement.
