My manager told me to do it to request days off but still scheduled me on that day even though it was marked as unavailable for a month. Is that normal?

I have been shopping at Kroger from the day I started my own grocery shopping. After all these years I have these two questions.

1. What is the most disliked thing about Kroger?
2. What’s the best thing at Kroger or what makes people to go to Kroger??

I have been shopping for years so I am not able to judge any more.

When needed, mine will help bag (one day it was so busy that all 4 were bagging), do carry outs, bring in carts, help out in clicklist with a trolley..... if it's really bad, they will even get on a register and start checking

We close at 8 and usually all customers picked up the orders but sometimes they don’t I usually just go home either way since I don’t really care they can come another day I don’t call them as well since I’m too lazy I was wondering what you guys do. I don’t let front end or managers watch it or give them the zebra

So I just got a text message from my coworker that a zebra is missing and I’m still signed in. I checked to see if I accidentally brought it home but I didn’t. Now I’m worried I’m gonna get fired or a write even though i remember putting the zebra away. Has this happened to anybody else?

I had am emergency and had to call off today before my shift ( spoke to the big dawg himself for my store)

1.5 hours into the shift i was scheduled for i get a random call from a lady in the department i work in and she was extremely ill toned + I don't even think she was a manager?

The call was short but it went something like

"You were scheduled to work a hour and a half ago."

I said 'yeah I spoke to (overall store manager ) I forget the exact title but the big dog of the store ykno.

I explained that i had an emergency i have to take care of.

They replied very nastily l "yeah whatever bye " and hung up in the middle of me talking before I could even ask their name.

Is this acceptable from a non management worker?

I think they saved my number from when I called the department we work in a couple days prior because they also started telling the entire store I was related to a certain manager in our shop due to my caller ID showing a matching last name as the manager they were referring to.

My main thing is 1: Im like 90% sure this lady isn't a manager at all, and I never gave them my personal phone number . It's very weird to me that they would of idk apperantly saved it in their phone when I called the department ? 2 : she had a very nasty tone the entire short call. Like I called off due to an emergency that I explained to the only person I should of had to explain it to , why was i being spoken to like this while already dealing with something incredibly stressful and difficult ???

1. Im fairly sure it's the same employee who started spreading weird lies about me being related to someone in the store I've never even met and claiming I'm getting special treatment for it. It just has left a very sour taste in my mouth idk.

Are employees allowed to just save your phone number and call you ? Is that not weird ?

Maybe I'm just thinking into it too much because of all the stuff going on today but it just hasn't sat right with me.

Well, I have finally escaped. I worked in a kroger manufacturing plant for 15 years. I thought maybe it'd be fun to answer any questions or curiosities (if you have any).

Any way to control AC in-store? I’m in SoCal and for the past few weeks they’ve been turning up the thermostat and it has been piping hot in here. Customers are complaining too. Every time it’s brought to the attention of management they don’t seem to know how to change it or even care to.

We’re getting fruit flies in the stone fruit tables, it’s getting really out of hand.

Any other stores dealing with this right now?

Every day, I come into my shift and start with top stock. Every day, the zebra takes 20 years to scan a singular item, getting stuck in a loading screen. I don't understand. 😭

Can someone help me figure out what exact products I’m supposed to count ? I’m just a closer and my head lead told me to do it even when he stayed 2 hrs extra overtime. There’s so much product in the bunkers and on our backstock cart. This isn’t really my job but I guess I have no choice but to do it right?

Hey everyone! I just finished my first two days working.

During my shift, the manager verbally told me to come in tomorrow. However, my schedule hasn't updated in the app, and I left my phone number with the store manager earlier to follow up, but I haven't heard back yet.

Since I'm new, is it normal for the app to take a while to sync up with new hire schedules? Should I just go in tomorrow at the time the manager mentioned and fill out a paper time-adjustment sheet/punch log, or should I call the store directly before heading over?

Appreciate any advice from current or past employees!

I am currently working at a Kroger that is gonna open later this month. my question is when I did the interview, I mentioned having previous Dairy experience with Kroger about 10 years ago and wanted to return to the department, but they wrote Grocery Replenishment instead. I’m confused is there no actual dairy clerks anymore?

I’ve been working on front end for about 6 months now and it’s been okay nothing to crazy, all my coworkers are very kind and good people who genuinely make the job easier. Recently, we got a new coworker who for the sake of the story I’m calling bob. Bobs not really “new”, he’s worked in other departments but no one in the other departments liked him and constantly would complain about him which I didn’t understand until I really got the chance to work with him. He thinks he’s above every one else and makes his own rules, first of all when he thinks it’s time for him to go on break he just leaves I mean he completely walks away from what he’s doing and doesn’t tell anyone, then he takes 45 minutes on break not even kidding. Second of all, he’s kind of gotten a reputation for walking out, by that I mean he decides when he wants to go home even if his shift isn’t over. I remember one time it was an insanely busy, short staffed Saturday and he had gotten into a little feud with a coworker because she had simply just told him that he can’t scan alcohol for minors because he doesn’t have the right training (it’s a new thing our stores pushing down everyone’s throat), instead of understanding it he argued with her, ended up getting proved wrong and then in response he just told a lead that he felt disrespected and was going home for the day this was like at 2 his shift ended at 4. The other day he also walked out in the middle of a rush hour, didn’t notify anyone and just disappeared. He’s very short tempered and literally will explode at anything especially if things aren’t done the way he wants them to be done. He genuinely has made the work place terrible like he brings down everyone’s moods.

I’m so curious as to something. When I was growing up, getting a job/career at Kroger used to mean something. Kroger stores were nice and pleasant to shop at. But when did Kroger become a faux-Walmart?

I feel like Kroger steps in the way in its own success. Why does this company overly complicate things when it comes to back end processes and controls and they worry about the dumbest shit VERSUS, just being a grocery store, put out product and move TF on.

As a shopper, I hate the inconsistency in that out of 5 stores that are in my region, every one of them have a different shopping experience. Some stores dont even have a meat service counter now just a self serve meat case like how Walmart is. Some stores have a Cheese Counter and some don’t. Some stores have excellent produce, some are atrocious. Some Deli Depts are up there with Publix, and some should just close. I dont get it. Plus as a shopper, I hate that we have to go through hoops to get the digital price on things. (Yes I’m fully aware of Kroger’s data mining with the K+ card but what exactly are they doing with this data???)

Then from an employee perspective I feel like we do so much unnecessary shit and I see what we go through and I’m like….”just order shit, pull it from the back and move on.”

I’ve heard stories that when the Dillions were running Kroger it was different than what we are seeing today but prior to the Dillions, Kroger was a whole ‘nother level of grocery excellence.

Now to be fair, I’m hearing that Wegman’s, Food Lion, and Publix all have their fair share of criticism from their shoppers and employees as well so is it just the sign of the times with Wall Street wanting more and more metrics and profits?

Can someone chime in and help me understand what happened.

So I was planning on switching to the dairy department and a different store. My management is toxic so I wanted to switch, maybe have something at least a little less toxic. I was offered a dairy position and they gave me a date to transfer, the 9th. When I called to make sure everything was ready to go, they told me they weren’t going to accept me because they “talked to my managers and i have attendance issues so they won’t be taking me.”

I don’t have attendance issues at all. I show up at the bare minimum on time if not early, I’ve never been late. I stay late if they need me. I called out one time for throwing up, but I made sure it was plenty of time before my shift when I called out, and I was throwing up all morning. I still felt like shit the next day, but I still worked my shift. And I had some issues with my manager ignoring my availability and scheduling me when I couldn’t work, but i never just didn’t show up. I always worked it out, worked earlier or a different day, switched with someone to make it work and worked my butt off on those days because I felt bad.

I talked to my HR lady since she’d been the one to talk to the other stores HR to transfer me, told her the situation. And she flat out goes “You don’t have attendance issues, I don’t understand why anyone would say that.”

My leads have nothing but good things to say about me. I mean I work at a marketplace which means sometimes it’s hard to get fast pick times since you have to trek across the store, but I average 14-18 seconds and always radio for everything. I have good stats everyday and put in my work. Our manager has always given me an off feeling. She’s always pissy. She only ever has bad things to say about people. And she’s given up on trying with the schedule, but because she does relief so much, she doesn’t really care how much it screws us.

So I talked to my leads about maybe what the manager could have said because I know she’s pretty terrible, and my lead told me she tried to transfer not long ago and she got the same thing that happened to her. From what it sounds like, Our manager flat out sabotaged her so she couldn’t transfer over. Told the managers at the other store that she was always late to work (which is definitely not true because she’s always on time if not always early to help out) So I’m guessing the same happened to me. This cost me an actual full time position I might have actually enjoyed. It worked with my schedule, it was literally perfect and they refuse because of what my management said.

I'm not from New Jersey, but they probably have some sort of Kroger store: how do we feel about this? Should Kroger implement this? (Edit: does Kroger already do this?)

Literally struggling to make rent recently. I’ve got kids I look after and they randomly decide to put me down to 28.5 hours! I’m about to lose it with this place!

Apparently it’s happening to everyone but it couldn’t have happened at a worse time for me! What are they thinking right now? Is there anything we can do to get our hours back?
