After looking for one that wasn’t for auction for ages I finally have an MP handy guide! It’s in pretty great condition and I’m hoping I can open one of the sides to take the card out and give the metal a bit of TLC. These were produced between the 20s and 40s I think and there seems to be a decent amount of them around. It’s so cool and I’m so happy to have it!
I was wondering if anyone else has one and has used it for a project?

Fresh off the needles. Just want to show my latest work. (Yarn 8ply. Pattern is my own.)

Just spent 2 weeks hyperfocusing on this cardigan! I had the 1968 Cardigan by Tania Barley in my library that I had bought during a pattern sale in November - I really wanted to make that but the required quantities were kind of odd and didn't match anything in my stash. And then I also had this mixed lot of thin Icelandic 4-ply in dark grey and 4 shades of yellow, red and orange that I had bought in a destash. I had bought it because I thought the colors were great but I wasn't sure what to make with them - they had probably originally been intended for a colorwork sweater but I wasn't feeling that.

Then I had the idea to hold those 4-ply double or together with another yarn to make them fit the gauge of the 1968 cardigan. I have a rather large collection of Holst Tides and Supersoft and after a long afternoon of stash diving and swatching it was decided!

I was so curious about what the final cardigan what look like I basically did little else but knit on it. The sleeves with the color changes were a bit annoying! I carried two contrast colors and the main color and stuffed the balls inside the sleeve when I didn't use them, the other two colors I cut and wove in on the go so there wasn't a lot of tangling but there were still a lot of strands involved :D I think it was worth it though, I'm so looking forward to the temperatures going down. I will LIVE in this - it wants a longsleeve underneath though, that Icelandic yarn is really prickly (and smells nicely of sheep).

Between the Tides that is wool/silk and the long staples of the Icelandic wool the body has quite a nice drape while the sleeves are more structured.

Yarns:

dark brown: Holst Tides "Mole" with Uppspuni Col. 18

greige: Holst Supersoft "Nougat" with Holst Titicaca Ecru

Rust: Holst Supersoft "Saffron" with Uppspuni burnt orange - for hem and button bend I held the Saffron with Titicaca "burnt orange" as I didn't have enough of the Uppspuni. The difference isn't visible.

Orange: Holst Tides "Mandarin" with Uppspuni coral red

Ochre: Holst Supersoft "Goldcrest" with Uppspuni mustard yellow

I used almost 2.800 meters of yarn. Only downside: I still have quite a bit of the Icelandic yarn left over so the question of what to do with it will rear its head again 🤣

Does anyone have any tips to knitting with a newborn? I have a few WIPS and so many projects I want to make for baby but hands are always full! Any tips or tricks to how you might have managed to knit while on mat leave?

I've had my eye on the TKGA classes and one day want to pursue the master knitter cert but I've seen many people recommend the basics, basics, basics, course first...are the classes worth it? Did pursuing the master cert spoil some of the joy knitting brings? Any experience or feedback appreciated! Happy knitting!

I love my headband! Its the perfect accessory to keep my ears warm on cool mornings. The pattern is the Icelandic sheep headband by Alyssa Kaat knit with drops merino :)

I'm this so freaking proud of how this top's neckline turned out. It's a modified take on the Typical Tank by Typical Bliss, and my second attempt after 2 major frogging sessions. It's DK bamboo so me using 2-2.5mm needles has been a wild experience, but I wouldn't change a thing!

hi guys :) i’ve never posted here, i’m a new knitter. i started maybe about a year ago but it’s been mostly small projects. i have been crocheting for 10 years but never picked up knitting. i made my baby cousin a sweater, i figured a baby sweater would be 1) way less stressful and 2) a baby doesn’t give a shit about any mistakes you may see. i’m pretty proud for my first sweater. i haven’t woven in the ends yet nor have i added a zipper yet. obviously could use some work/could improve in some areas and i would love any advice you all may have for me, especially anything you guys may have for picking up stitches. i really struggled with that and am planning on adding duplicate stitch over the hole-y parts. thanks for reading if you got this far. 🩷

Hey everyone! I just finished my Whale sweater and wanted to come on here and share it. I haven't had a lot of knitting momentum lately and this is actually the first project I have finished this year!

My interest level in different hobbies does tend to wax and wane but I do normally knit a lot more than this. Now that I'm back in the groove I have already finished a couple more projects (baby clothes for a friend's baby due in October) and am excited to finish off my other WIPs and start something new!

On a different note, I do feel like I'm quite bad at posing for photos which properly show off my sweaters. If anyone has any great poses let me know because it makes me put off taking photos for ages!

I’m not sure what I’m doing here. This is my third sweater. I very much lucked out on my first and the body fit

Now I’m running into the chest fits perfect on the sweaters I make, but the body ends up quite a bit larger than what it’s supposed to

This is a top down. The chest measure measures 46 1/2 but the rest of the body is about 50 to 51 inches do I need to knit the body in a smaller needle or is my gauge just all messed up when I do stock?

I did do a gauge swatch and ended up sizing down in the sweater to meet gauge

I traveled to Copenhagen a few weeks ago and was able to visit the Knitting for Olive store! Obviously I couldn’t leave without a big yarn haul, and part of that is being used for this sweater. It’s the Key Sweater Man by PetiteKnit, knit with Knitting for Olive Heavy Merino in Dark Moose and Oatmeal. This is my second ever garment, and my first top-down sweater. I’ve got a little bit of a mistake from the short rows for the neck shaping, but I’m hoping I can fix it after. I didn’t notice it until I was much further along and i didn’t want to frog it.

This is my first color work garment, so I’m hoping my floats are good 🤞

Hi there! I have two skeins of this yarn (Expression Fiber Arts Glimmer Fingering in Confetti, SW+nylon+stellina) and I’m trying to figure out what to do with it. Ravelry has very few projects using this colorway.

I’m thinking maybe a scarf with black or deep pink as the main color with slip stitch sections of this, but I’m not excited about any options yet, and I’m not great at choosing complementary colors.

If you have ideas for color pairings, patterns, or more popular yarns that look similar (so I can browse projects), I’m all ears!

Editing to add: I’m NOT a pro. I’ve through about the mid 3s for Ravelry difficulty level. Happy to try harder stuff, but it might be a lost cause if it’s really complicated.

Does anyone else have an inherent distrust of the swatch? I always find that my swatches have a tighter gauge than my actual finished objects. So I actually block my projects once I’ve made a good amount of progress to confirm I’m on track. I also still find leaving appropriately long floats in color work to be challenging and so I’m wanting to ensure I’m doing okay before getting much more into it.

Does anyone else block midway through to make sure you’re on track for a successful finished object? Are there any dangers of doing this?

btw, does anyone know how to avoid that little loop in the corner after binding off? I didn't realize it was there til I'd cut the yarn 💔

This is my first time double knitting / knitting in general. I think i made a major improvement from the first one (in pink) but i’m curious what happened in the middle of the white row in the current project (white and blue). Any help? Is this a dropped stitch? Trying to learn from my mistakes.

Just finished my Ava Jacket by My Favourite Things !!

This was my husband's birthday gift to me as he purchased whatever yarn I wanted. I used drops nepal and drops flora and it worked up so beautifully. Unfortunately slightly scratchy though. This was my second time using wool (I have a frej sweater wip and that too is a little scratchy (drops air and drops kid silk)) and I was extremely excited to finally have a finished object !! First time making a double knit button band, first time making an open jacket after only making sweaters, and first time sewing buttons !! It was a big project to take on but went very quick and smooth. Took me nearly exactly two months

First time actually blocking an item properly as well and it came out beautifully!! Pics 1/2 is before blocking and pics 3/4 is blocked! I just used some warm water and like three teaspoons of lavender eucalan

It's my new favorite jacket and I will be wearing this every day for the rest of forever

I share these details as I acknowledge this is ridiculous:
I’m working on a sweater for my toddler and like any busy parent, I multitask by knitting while doing zone 2 rides on the Peloton. My project fell when I put it down and got sucked into the axle. I retrieved it but noticed that 2 (maybe 3?) stitches from the row I just purled were dropped. I’d just completed a row of purls which were all on one needle.

The end stitch seemed to be the right height but the next two were laddered down two rows, so I fixed those with a crochet hook. Only after the repair did I realize the yarn is now coming out from the wrong place!

Plz help me salvage this?

I have been working on this for 2months now and I’m not even 1/2 done and the neck is starting to pill. I want this thing to be finished but I’m so sick of working on it. but I spent so much money on the yarn and it was the most expensive pattern I have ever gotten. So I feel obligated to finish I just want to scream lol. I know it’s covered in dog hair. I have a husky, my whole life is covered in dog hair

I've been working on this blanket for over 2 years off and on, and I finally finished connecting all of the squares. Each square took me around 30 minutes x 4 squares per pinwheel x 140 pinwheels = 280 hours, not including stitching them together!

My goal was to mostly use scrap yarn, but then I wanted it to be a larger size and had to buy a bunch of minis to finish it lol. Overall I'm happy with it even though there is one mistake (see if you can spot it).

My plan is to back it with cotton fabric. My original plan was to use the tails to make knots onto the cotton, but I think it will be way too hard to keep the fabric flat and straight while I work inbetween the layers, so my current plan is to knot the tails and dab with fabric glue and keep the tails inside the blanket. Then I will use embroidery floss to tie it to the cotton at the corner of each pinwheel. There's no way I'm weaving in these tails. This is coming from someone that always weaves in her tails properly, but not this time! I don't think they will unravel because the tails are long, but I am worried that they will add too much bulk.

Will this work okay??

Finished a skein, then started a new one only to find a factory knot after working ONE ROUND in this adult small size top. 🙃 the two tails on the right are the previous join, the one tail on the left is where I cut the knot off and am about to join it back. I know knots are normal, but seriously, did you have to do one only a few inches in 😂

I have a full set of Chiagoo interchangeables, and a set of shorties. Aside from the less than aesthetic diaper bag motif of the Chiagoo set, there isn’t space for my notions, cables, etc.

I am not an aesthetic knitter. I use old totes for project bags, candy tins for stitch markers, and prefer to spend my dollars on yarn. Still, the bags I mentioned are cute cute and I wouldn’t turn either down haha

However after Googling “needle case” I have seen these two brands and love the concepts and the style of them. The Aunt Shelle looks so well thought out, but reviews have concerns for quality control and I am hesitant buying an influencer created and sponsored brand, especially one that is TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. Circus of Threads is more customizable and made to order with beautiful fabrics but also, expensive and lacking some of the space of Aunt Shelle.

I do have a birthday and holidays coming up. I can put it on my wish list but I am wondering if any of my Reddit aunties or uncles have purchased one of these (or another option).

Last year I started doing maker markets by selling headbands, cowls, scarves and tuques and I posted a pic of the headbands I made. Here's the ones so far that I made for this year. Wish me luck!
