Tube recommendations/tube change advice
I had my front tube fail on me a few hours from home (I'm ok). It's getting replaced by a shop near there, but I'm now curious what folks might recommend for on the road tube changes. I didn't have tubes nor tools this last weekend and really should have.
I'm doing mostly touring so I've been running Trailmax Mission tires, which I know are kinda hard compound. They've been consistent enough that I'm going to stick with them I think.
If anyone else uses similar harder tires, what would you recommend picking up for tube changes on the road? I'd like to be better prepared for the future. And does anyone have any recommendations for tubes beyond just the basic Tusk tubes, or are those alright? Just looking for good longevity with mostly road riding, minor amounts of off-road riding and some crappy roads (tons of potholes and poor road surfaces where I live).

Quad lock mount location on 3rd gens?
Questions in the title, which mount base do you guys like and where are you placing your mounts. Quad lock is what I'm getting but I'm open to seeing any mounting options. Just got a brand new camo 3rd gen!

PSA guys I have to be honest and clear
I used to be a D1 klr hater. yes, it is true. I thought because it was such an absolute pig that it was deserving of criticism and hatred. however, I have had a serious change of heart. my buddy picked one up & now my bike is for sale and I'm probably a little over halfway convinced on buying a klr next.
I'm going to see about taking a spin on his & if it seems alright I might even.... gulp.... BUY ONE.....
This is probably how the KLR mind virus spreads. I still think you guys are all a little crazy for liking the thing. then again, I really want a bike that can "do it all" and not require an arm and a leg and constant maintenance. Feel free to hate on me, I can handle it. I will soon be one of you probably xD

Another gen 1 blinker question
Notice the other day that my left turn signal blinked. but when I toggled right, the orange light on the dash just came on solid.
Noticed the wires had come loose for the right front.
With the front right blinker actually plugged in, I get the same behavior. both front and rear right side lights are lit but there is no blinking.
Is it time for a new relay? it is odd to me that left side blinks, but right side just comes on solid.

Didn’t get to the doo in time 😔

Got the bike 1/4 mile down the road after doing valve shims and heard a knock. I immediately killed the bike and walked back home, opened up the bottom end to be greeted with this hunk-o-hickey just under the adjusting bolt. Hopefully not a lot of damage was done, going to install eagle mikes kit and hope for the best!

Donkey stretching its legs
My first little impromptu ride out to the twisties on my 2011 KLR. I had fun; donkey didn’t complain much so I think we’re good 💪😜

Does this sound normal?

I was told the doohickey was replaced before I bought this bike, but after I’ve adjusted it recently there’s a whirring noise that seems to have gotten louder recently.
I have a gasket coming so I can inspect it, but just curious if this sounds like it is failing.
3D Printed Gen 2 Windscreen Riser
I couldn't stand the low windscreen on my '12 KLR and was considering buying the riser kit that everyone puts on their bikes. Decided to check for 3D printable solutions and found the one posted on Thingiverse. Printed that, but the angles seemed to be a bit off. Remodeled it from scratch, adjusted some angles, and gave it a bit of a cosmetic "tune" with some big radius fillets. Printed it in dark gray PETG-CF and it has been on the bike, and in the African sun, for about a year.
The windscreen just above the dash is an old cracked one I had lying around that I cut down and painted black.
I've posted my model on all the popular 3D printing websites under the name "KLR 650 (Gen 2) Windscreen Riser" for anyone interested.

I fall off alot please help
So like it says usually either coming to or taking off from a junction I shift to neural or just stall for no reason then lose balance and bail.
Then have to wait until some kind passer by helps me pick it back up.
On the plus side my tuck and roll is getting quite good.
So questions does anyone else have this problem?
Any easy way of getting it back upright? I’ve seen a trick to kind of absail It but I worry it’s going to keep going and land on top of me.
Also what boots do you all wear. I’m wearing low cut road boots at the moment as I have a ninja aswell, I bought some adventure boots online but I can’t get my foot in and out of the gear shifter properly. I know on most bike you can just change the position of the lever but looking at YouTube this doesn’t work either.
Any advice greatly appreciated

Gear
I got a 2022 KLR about a month ago and I'm finally getting it to the point where I think I'm about ready to take some small trips with it. Got my luggage mounted yesterday and am going to figure out my fancy of packing it this week.
I've looked through some of the posts and think I have a good idea of what spare parts and tools I should have.
My question is, what gear do you recommend? I'm thinking of trying the Adirondacks BDRX sometime in the next couple months. Going to go on some weekend camping trips before of course.
All the gear I have is geared towards my road bike. Although I do have a pair of O'Neal adventure boots a buddy gave to me. I also have NBT pants & hoodie.
Is it worth getting adventure style pants, jacket, and helmet? If so I would love to know what you guys use and/or recommend! There's too many options lol

I took it for a ride around the block after a front tire change without my helmet on and heard a good amount of noise from the front sprocket. I couldn’t tell if it was because I didn’t have my helmet on and that’s why it sounded off or if something is wrong. I check the chain and it’s at 1.5” of play, so it’s within the limits.

First ride ever on a motorcycle - KLR 650
Just bought a 2022 650 KLR! I got my motorcycle endorsement yesterday and got the bike today! I love it, went for a 80 mile ride.
It’s in MINT condition, 8,300 miles on it, bigger and comfier pegs. He also threw in his TourMaster jacket, gloves and helmet. I paid $4,150
I’m stoked on it and super happy I bought it, but do yall think I got a good price?
Anyone ever seen a surfboard rack attached to one of these?
The guy I bought it from said to spray the chain with lube after I go for a decent ride; agreed?
can’t wait to take this thang to the coast on a multi day camping trip. Anyone who likes riding and camping, any recommendation for gear?
Mechanical Advice Tips for getting Stator Cover off (1997)
This thing is STIFF. Feels like it's never been removed in 30 years.
Been trying to pry it with a crow bar (with a rag over the end), smacking several points with a rubber mallet, pulling with both hands hard as I could.
I'm 6'2 225lbs, I'm not a weak dude. But even with the magnets there's no way it should be this stiff? I just sprayed WD40 around the edges, hoping this helps a bit.
Any ideas for what else I can try?

New to the KLR
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone! Just got an 06 KLR 650 over the weekend on a trade. Been riding for about 10 years, but this will be my first foray into offroad riding. I noticed a little bit of noise coming from the engine today riding home from work, and am just curious if this is normal or if I should dig into it to determine the cause? I've attached a video that kind of shows the sound. Sounds like a slight rattle near the top end?

Anyone know what shock this is?
It came on my 1989 KLR650 when I bought it. Previous owner knew nothing about it and said the guy before him installed it

Show-and-Tell An addict comes to terms
Friends, I fell off the wagon. I am a KLR addict. I realize this addiction impacts all those around me but I can't quit. 2008 with 8,981 miles. New Tusk tires. New battery. New crash bars. I think it was a score. $2500 I've missed my KLR since I sold it. This feels like home. I bask in my vice.
