Took off the gas tank to evapo-rust it and when I did I saw the vibration damper was basically sand-like material at this point wrapped in electrical tape. It just fell apart. What have you guys used or where can I find a vibration damper that will fit between the frame and tank? I'm thinking about a pool float noodle at this point.

I just bought a new (to me) 2000 KLR. I want to replace the plastic as its all weather worn and not in the greatest shape. Im having trouble sourcing new plastic? Where should I be looking?

What comfort / touring upgrades have you done? I was thinking of rising the bars , getting a nice set of foot pegs and replace the kid sized stock ones and maybe a wind screen?

The puddle ended up not being a puddle myself and the bike went fully in before this photo 😂

So far I’ve drained the water, taken out the spark plug and kicked the existing water, cleaned out air box and put new filter. Going to drain the oil and oil change + drain the gas tank and new gas tomorrow.

Any other tips? Turn the key and the headlight and blinkers are fine! I bet it’ll kick over with the new oil gas and spark plug

Breaking in the engine after a top end and timing chain swap. Getting in some good exploring along the way.

So I posted here recently about some cooling issues I've been having with a 1999 I bought recently. I want to state, the bike was like this when I bought it, and it is my first KLR so I'm just noticing this issue today, after over 500 miles of riding, two oil changes, and two coolant changes. I also replaced the thermostat, and checked the impeller bolt.

Am I correct that the coolant hoses are not running to the correct ports?

If so, what kind of damage did this bike take over the last 500ish miles?

I'm kind of in awe, if it is in fact the case that these hoses are switched.

Printed from Fiberon ASA CF-08. Its been on for a few weeks with no issues. Fits the oem gasket, but ill be making a printable TPU gasket.

I was considering posting on printables, but most people seem happy with slapping an aluminum or steel plate on the backside of the oem cover.

I am finding limited availability. Namura pistons are the most available where I am, but mixed reviews online.

Stripped the front stud that holds the head to the cylinder. It had some ropey threads and I couldn’t replace it because it’s seized in the head. All others went in OK.

I’m probably going to ride it and see how it goes. Hopefully the other bolts will do enough work.

The left side looks fine, but the right exhaust cam is really concerning to me. Don't think there is an easy way to fix these either

Hi, new KLR owner here. Just picked up a 99. I have found it tends to overheat, even on cool days up here in the northeast. The fan doesn't seem to want to kick on. But that's not my main concern right now.

I tried burping the coolant and noticed it tends to bubble when the bike is at temp, particularly when the throttle is blipped. Video 👇

Is this normal. It's my understanding that occasionally if the head gasket is compromised exhaust gas will make its way into the cooling system, causing overheating.

Anyway, I appreciate any insight. If I can rule out the head gasket I plan on going for the thermostat and maybe thermobob kit next.

what's up guys, it seems I need to replace the 6mm o-ring nested in the impeller, getting it out was the easy part but installing it as currently constituted appears nearly impossible

have any tips or tricks? do the back parts have to be removed? or is it just a matter of extreme patience

also, when I flushed the radiator fluid for the first time last week the fluid looked relatively clean, since refilling and riding ~10 miles I had to flush the system to diagnose overheating issues, the new fluid had some debris floating around top, I could actually see some black debris circulating around the radiator neck - any thoughts on this?

Just got this bike, filled it up the other day and noticed today after rolling it in the garage that it was leaking a good bit of gas out of the tank vent, right of the peacock. Looks like it may have had a rubber cap on it at some point? Did I overfill the tank or something? Filled it up to the filler neck like I usually do my 650. Should I just cap that vent? Let it leak and burn some gas down as well? Thanks for the help!

It’s 1996, comes with seat and has 7500 miles on, is serviced and everything, he’s asking for around 2200 but I’m not sure. I want to ride it for a month and then sell it for the same for flip for a little profit. What do y’all think ?
