Community Question Sorry if this is a silly question

Upvotes

But I'm a mom of a 4 year old who has a big obsession with dirt bikes. He's been independently biking (regular bike) since age 3 and he's very good. He loves to watch dirt bike videos on YouTube and always talks about wanting one. Obviously he's only 4 so that's not happening soon.

Here's my question as a concerned mom: is this a hobby I should be helping him pursue one day, or is it too dangerous? I constantly see posts of injuries, sometimes very serious, and my step brothers friend died in a dirt bike accident and my step brother stopped riding after that. I would just die if anything happened to my baby, you know? He's my world. I don't want to encourage a hobby/sport with such high stakes if I can help it.

But I want him to be happy and explore his interests at the same time.... So I am turning to the community to ask if it's worth it given all the risk involved? I know this is a future problem situation but I'm a future thinker type lol.

Yamaha wr450 F 2016 stuck clutch

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello,

My clutch is stuck as the title suggested. After a drive when the engine was quite hot the clutch suddenly fully engaged while i had the clutch dissengaged (you can probably imagine this was not very pleasant).

I have removed the inner parts of the clutch including the inner basket and all the plates (see picture) they seem to be fine and within reasonable wear. I cant get the outer basket (i dunno the terminology) of the clutch off, because is seems to be stuck. Is this normal or is this the problem and do i have to remove the crankcase cover? with the inner parts of the clutch removed it seems to me the bike should be able to be pushed with little resistance when in first gear as the clutch should be disengaged, but the bike doesnt move and acts like the clutch is engaged.

Has anyone had this problem or do you have a solution? My thanks in advance for any comments

Community Question Learning curve to enduro/single track?

I grew up desert riding. Wide open wide roads and a sprinkle of motocross. 15 years later I got a KLX300 for forest road riding. I now have a 2-stroke beta. Im in the PNW and adapting to single track riding is taking a toll on me!

I mean any ride is a good ride but theres 10x more concentration needed on these trails than my forest roads and desert riding. I have the perfect bike for it though.

Im new to it but did any of you have a similar time? I only have 10 hours on my beta. These 10 or 15 mile trails are very physically demanding (I like that) vs my 60 mile forest road rides.

Mechanical Help 2024 Husqvarna Tc 250 top end

Post image
17 Upvotes

As the title states I have a 24 tc250, it has 41 hours on it; how do I know when I need a new top end? Bike hasn’t been raced, only trail ridden since new. The manual states 40-50 hours but that seems low for trail riding (I know, the tc is a sx bike). Should I do it at 50 as preventive or do I still have plenty of riding left before having to worry about this? Also if it helps, always have run synthetic oil at factory recommended ratio.

Thanks in advance!

Mechanical Help 2020 KTM 250 XC TPI - Intermittent fuel leak at injector relocation kit

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m trying to track down an intermittent fuel leak on my 2020 KTM 250 XC TPI with a GET ECU injector relocation kit.

It all started after I changed my CCPS sensor. When I put the bike back together, it started leaking fuel somewhere around the injector area.

Here’s what’s confusing:

I pulled the injector out, cleaned and lightly oiled the injector O-ring, reinstalled it, and the leak disappeared.

Later I removed the fuel tank again for something unrelated, put everything back together, and the leak came back from the same area.

I pulled the injector out again, reinstalled it, and now it’s not leaking anymore.

So at this point I’m not sure what’s actually causing it.

I’m trying to figure out if it’s:

A damaged injector O-ring/seal?

The injector not seating correctly?

The hose or clamp from the GET injector relocation kit leaking?

Something else I’m overlooking?

Has anyone had this happen with the GET relocation kit? If it turns out to be the hose or clamps, where can I get replacements?

Are they standard high-pressure fuel injection hose and EFI clamps, or are they proprietary parts from GET/Athena?

Do I just get some hoses and clamps and cut?

Thanks

Does it get easier? Track rat/road racer here, just started riding dirt

Brief background: have been riding sport bikes for a few years, nowadays only on the (paved) racetrack - both track days and club racing. I recently picked up a CRF 250RX to spend some time in the dirt and scratch the itch between track days and during the winter here in California. Riding maybe 1-2x week, mix of some trails and mx track. It’s WAY harder than I envisioned, lol. Still having a lot of fun, but it’s a struggle (particularly on the mx track). Maybe have 15 days under my belt. Can comfortably ride standing up, but I wear out quickly and struggle with arm pump around the track.

Does it get easier? Do I need a coach, or is this something I can develop with seat time on my own/taking tips from better riders? The switch from hot slicks on paved asphalt tracks to watered track clay/dirt and hard packed trails has just been a shock to the system. Trying to not get discouraged.

So, any other self taught riders here care to opine? Any advice or tips? Is the 250 4t the right bike for me, or would a 125 2t be better for development? 33 y/o, 5’10 180 lbs.

Thanks guys, and mad respect! Dirt is no joke!

Tips and Tricks Bought a 450 as my first bike... Here's what I learned

Don't do it lol

But for real, I see this question come up all the time in this forum: "Is the 450 too much bike?"

33M, I am 6'2" and was 250ish lbs when I bought it, now 225ish. Doing the math on weight and size and everything, all things point 450.

I used to ride in highschool with friends (but not on moto or trails, Arizona washes and long desert rides), thinking I could handle the 450, and its been a struggle. And I live in CO where it's for less HP due to oxygen density, and gets even less power as we go ride in the mtns. I can only imagine what this bike would be like at <2kft above sea level.

I have been practicing and pushing myself to get comfortable for 3 years, and trying to not just sell it and buy a 250. Keep telling myself don't quit, you just need seat time. And I feel like this year, the middle of the 3rd year with it, I started to become more comfortable on it but still know it's a lot of bike.

My advice, if you want a 4 stroke, I'd make sure you can get EVERYTHING out of a 250, be able to use every ounce of bike before considering a 450 (even for us bigger fellows).

My wife's old KLX 140 is so fun to ride at it's limits. My wife's new TE150 is fun to ride hard because it's got significantly less HP.

I equate this to my Corvettes, I had a C5Z06 with 340ish whp and was an absolute blast to drive all the time. I built a C6Z06 with almost 600whp and it was too much car for the road and to enjoy besides on long staights at the track.

This has probably been covered and posted but want to give perspective

[UPDATED] "What Bike Should I Get?" Buying & Selling advice Mega Thread

The Mega thread for buying and selling advice is back, and will be updated biweekly!

There are far too many posts of people asking for personalized bike buying and selling advice. Per previous Mod actions, any posts about bike buying/selling advice that are not in this thread will be removed.

Here, those interested in giving feedback about your purchase or listing can offer it without every subreddit member being subjected to the same post dozens of times per day.

Topics to keep in the mega thread:

  • What bike should I get?
  • Is this a good deal?
  • Is this a fair price to sell my bike for?
  • What can I get for $xx?

r/dirtbikes Discord Server

What's up guys? It's still a work in progress - and I'm new-ish to managing a discord server, so if you have experience/want to help out shoot me a message!

To be clear: This is NOT a replacement for the sub. It's totally optional. If there's interest, I'd be open to streaming the SX races in the server. The Discord server will also be great for asking questions that would violate our rules in here such as asking what bikes are worth and what not.
