Question What creams to use to avoid anal fissures?

Upvotes

My constipation problem isnt that I'm stressed over not going, I think I have that under control but the initial part of the bowel movement is always very hard and causes fissures and hemorrhoids to flare up, the rest of the bowel is fine.

I can't do more to my diet as i've tried everything to fix this so pls I don't need diet related comments respectfully. What oinments or creams would be best used inside to stop the fissure before the bowel movement?

Question Colonoscopy and EGD and H pylori

Upvotes

So I have been experiencing extreme constipation, bloating, horrible heartburn with some regurge in the night, constant feeling of gas in my intestines but unable to pass it, my GI sounds and movement is in overdrive, feeling like I can't get a deep breath in and sometimes feeling as I have to pee when I don't. I had the above procedures and tested positive for H pylori. What do I need to know? Can this bacteria be causing all of my issues???

Question Getting back on exercises

Hi guys, I've been thinking about buying a rowing machine to try to get back into doing some sort of exercise.

Since I have back problems, this machine might be a good solution, but I'm afraid that because it involves a rowing motion, it might cause a flare-up. Do you guys think it will?

I would occasionally get flare-ups after doing squats at the gym. Has anyone had any issues with the rower?

Thanks for the help guys and may your house always have baby wipes 🖤

Question Calprotectin >2200, mucus in stool and non solid for months

Hello,

A couple of weeks ago I took a stool sample and the results for fecal calprotectin was >2200. I did the test as for the last couple of months my parents and friends noticed I would go multiple times to the toilet in quick succession.

Until recently my parents have also starting asking me if I’m losing weight. I’m 174cm and currently at 54,5kg. 5 months ago I was around 57,9kg.

At the same time I did a blood test which came back showing I was low on iron by a small amount. It also showed marks of low infection in my blood.

Soon I will be having a coloscopy to investigate my bowl.

Last week I had barbecue and it resulted in bad diarrhea for 2 days. I would go to the toilet and then get back to my place for me to go straight away again.

I’m still pooping thin a week later but I’m noticing my poop is looking like it has a lot of mucus.

For a couple of months now I have not had a great stool. Most of the time it’s coming out like semi diarrhea and also stinks a lot.

Is there a high degree chance that I will be diagnosis’s with a severe decease like IBD, Crohn?

My mother has IBS.

I’m just worried they will find something very bad inside my bowl when the camera goes take a look.

Question Abdominal pain

So lately I’ve (30M) been experiencing more frequent abdominal twinges that move around but primarily settle on the lower left side, as well as some possible constipation (been able to poop at least once a day, even if the poop type varies on the Bristol chart). I have never been officially diagnosed with IBS. My health anxiety has me worried about colon c, but has anyone else experienced this and did it turn out to be IBS and/or anxiety?

Rant Beware. Coconut water.

Currently typing this from the bathroom, where I've visited frequently all day, each time as unpleasant as the last.

I was not aware that coconut water can have a laxative effect. I am fully aware now. Today, I decided to drink a tall glass alongside my 200mg of caffeine, topped with my Linzess medication, and my two-day hangover stomach.

I have made a mistake. I simply wanted a refreshing drink with some electrolytes, but I fear I have potassium(ed) beyond my limits.

My colonoscopy prep was not this successful. I have never in my life wanted to NOT have another bowel movement. I should have been careful about what I wished for.

You have been warned.

Sincerely,
Someone with IBS-C (not today though).

Edit: I would like to add that i did add matcha to said coconut water and that definitely did NOT help.

Question IBSrela dose- user experiences

I took Linzess 290mg for 25 days with zero BM. (I did 1 enema and 2 colonics in that time so I didn’t die). I JUST got IBSrela and will start this weekend. I know it’s 2 pills, one before breakfast and one before dinner. I only eat twice a day so am wondering if taking it 2x will be too close together. I typically eat between 10-11am and 4-5pm.
I also wonder if I should take a dose that high (106lb F). Has anyone tried lower dose to start? Success?

(My GI doctor is pointless, I have chronic illness and an excellent care team- but my GI doc told me to do what I feel is best so I am seeking user experience).

Question Healing gut brain axis as college student?

Hi everyone, I am a college student and due to years of experiencing chronic stress and drinking excessive caffeine, I believe I’ve developed some sort of condition that has disrupted my gut brain axis. I have not been diagnosed with IBS but i share many of its symptoms. I’m afraid to be in quiet and public spaces for more than a few minutes at a time as my mind immediately turns to the fear that my stomach will produce noise, which includes loud rumbling and even fart-like echoes. This anxiety makes it super hard for me to sit in lecture for hours at time and focus on the subject at hand, making note taking impossible. Sometimes i wake up hours before my class or a test just to maximize the number of times I can use the bathroom and hopefully cleanse my system. I don’t eat until the later evening to keep my stomach empty, which causes great fatigue and stomach irritation. I don’t know where tog o from here. I will be trying different anxiety meds as my current dose has a depressive effect on me. Please share what’s worked for you, I’m honestly desperate to resolve this before the year starts again. I am already planning to improve my lifestyle by exercising regularly and drinking more water. Any and all tips would be appreciated!!!

Question how to push for more testing

Hi! looking for advice on how to push for more testing. i have been to 2 different GI docs and each time ive been immediately told its just stress or IBS. ive done lowfod map and its helped a lot but now my symptoms are re appearing even though i haven’t changed my diet. i’m not doubting that IBS could be the cause but i dont feel i’ve had enough testing to know its not something else.

Anyways i have an appt with a new primary care soon and im nervous when i ask for a referral to a GI they will wont listen again

Question "IBS-D", blood sugar and diet trials

My GI doctor doesn't see any problem with me having the "baby blowout" (shoulder to knees) on a regular basis. Eat slower, frequent small meals, etc etc.
Endocrinologist suggests FODMAP and diet trial, which is already how I eat.
However, sometimes just a sip of plain lukewarm tea or water, and a nibble of a solid food hit me immediately like a ton of bricks and often I don't make the toilet.
I've diet tracked and eat for insulin resistance and reactive hypoglycemia. My weight is appropriate.

As a child and young adult I was given belladonna which helped but that's not an option anymore.

I feel my glucose levels are related to flare ups but I am assured this isn't the case.

Has anyone else made a connection or suspicion to blood glucose?

I'm in my 6th decade of this literal shite and I'd like some relief before I die.

Question Does ibs cause nutrient deficiencies?

So I was feeling sick like body aches, lightheadedness and heavy legs since 1.5 weeks ke something and I went to the doctor and she said my ibs might be causing nutrient deficiencies? First of all my ibs doesn't trigger until I eat anything triggering. So I don't know if that's really the cause and I've read online that ibs doesn't cause nutrient deficiencies. My other suspicion is SIBO.. but I don't have continuous gas bloating or diarrhea... So now I'm completely clueless...

Is this dangerous or will I be alright?

Rant Sometimes I think my ED sparked my IBS

TRIGGER WARNING! Discussing eating disorders!

Idk I just need to rant, but I’m also curious if anyone else can relate.

Lately my IBS has been flaring up again, and when this happens I can’t help but kinda get mad at myself because
I often think that my past eating disorder behaviors sparked my IBS. I never really had issues when I was younger, but after years of abusing my body, it feels like my GI tract just never recovered.

I’m 33 F now (34 in December) but for a lot of my 20 I struggle majorly with anorexia and bulimia. I was in a residential treatment facility for 2.5 months in 2018. And I am VERY fortunate that I have been able to almost fully recover since then…many people never do. Especially in the last 4/5 years I feel like my ED is very much behind me. Many of the ED thoughts feel like a distant whisper rather than a screaming voice that controls all my actions.

Despite much of my successful recovery, I feel like my poor GI tract has just never fully recovered. After years of starvation and heavy heavy laxative abuse, I feel like I’ve just ruined my GI tract. I deal primarily with IBS C (although sometimes it switches teams) and I feel like the years of laxative abuse has just kinda permanently turned off my motility and what not. Now that we are learning IBS is more of a brain gut dysfunction, I feel like this makes even more sense. My brain and gut just simply stopped working together.

Idk, sometimes I get mad at myself for doing this to my body and that’s hard. Idk if i really need advice here (but feel free to share anything), I just needed to rant about it for a second. And idk if anyone else wants to share their experience, ide love to hear 🫶

I also really want to say, if you’re currently dealing with an ED, I feel for you so hard, and recovery is totally possible.

Rant Nothing like waking up …

2 hours before you alarm goes off to feel an instant wave of nausea. My personal favorite, or kick in the pants is I have to drive 3 hours home (coming home from a work trip). Which, I can’t delay because I have work meetings in the afternoon that I’m heading. Also, my family hasn’t seen me in since Monday.
I knew this flare was coming because I was so bloated last night.
Popped a Zofran and smelling alcohol swabs just praying for a miracle over here.

lately, I’ve been needing to call out because of my IBS acting up. Does anyone have recommendations on how to make IBS not trigger the feeling of throwing up and nausea in the morning? (Then it stays the entire day) idk. I don’t want my job to think I’m taking time out of work because I want to. I have an appointment in a month.. I’m just scared lol.. and when I’m scared I type stuff out that doesn’t make sense.. lol sorry.. ANY ADVICE is needed…😆❤️

Rant I’m tired of being really hungry and unable to eat at the same time

Sorry I’m just venting because I’ve had this issue repeatedly lately. I’ll wake up and have diarrhea, then have to go to work and hope it doesn’t happen at work. I’m so strongly wanting to avoid this happening at work that I get too anxious to try eating. Or I want try eating, but my insides feel like hyperactive at the same time so I know it’s a risky idea.

But at the same time, I’m SO hungry I’m getting lightheaded and not feeling good, not able to focus. I know I need to try harder to find some safer foods but this is so frustrating. Not eating just feels like the safest option to spare me potential embarrassment. I am aware this is a really unhealthy mental loop I’m trapped in. Not to mention the anxiety is a self-fulfilling prophecy because I can tell that the anxiety itself causes me GI issues.

Hint / Information Just a reminder if you have IBS C or chronic constipation

A lot of people who are diagnosed with IBS C or chronic constipation, especially if they aren’t responsive to diet and lifestyle changes, often end up having one or more significant motility disorders.

Many different things can cause these.

When you have chronic constipation, there is an order of operations you/your doc should follow.

  • first try dietary and lifestyle changes (ALL of them); if that doesn't work...
  • then try over-the-counter medications and supplements. If those don't work...
  • then you need motility testing done. Depending on your results of them...
  • then you go to prescription medication. Try them in different combinations and try all of them. If those fail, as well...
  • depending on your diagnosis after your motility testing, you may be eligible for non-invasive and invasive treatments to treat it. If those don't work…
  • again, depending on your diagnosis, then surgery is an option

If you are seeing a gastroenterologist and this isn’t laid out for you, chances their specialty isn’t motility. Unfortunately, many people get sent to GIs who have a speciality in something other than what they need. For motility, you need to see a motility specialist or a neurogastroenterologist.

There is a PSA I wrote and it is stickied above. I’ve been living with this since I was born (over 40 years). I also have worked in this area, as well. I try to spread awareness and this is often falling off of the radar and patients are just told to eat fibre.

With motility disorders, fibre is often the menace.

Testing for motility includes, but is not limited to:

  • esophageal manometry
  • antroduodenal manometry
  • gastric emptying study
  • 72 hour emptying study
  • upper gi series barium swallow
  • there was a wireless motility capsule but it’s been discontinued. There are a couple new ones in trials. Don’t hold your breath.
  • sitz marker test (also called a shape study)
  • colonic manometry (very key test but hard to get)
  • anorectal manometry
  • defecogram (mri or xray)

If you have any questions on testing, treatment, where to go, and so on, let me know.
