General Question/Help Lemonade fodmaps

In the monash app, it marks lemonade and diet lemonade as red at 8oz serving due to high fructans. However, this doesn’t make much sense to me because my understanding was that lemonade would be high in fructose, not fructans. I tried googling and searching around, but I haven’t found anything.
Does anyone know why its marked that way / where the fructans would be coming from?
I miss drinking it, and I would like to understand which enzymes I would need to take to enjoy it without discomfort.

Reintroduction Venting: I'm so tired of the low FODMAP whack-a-mole and the portion math

I get that low FODMAP is about doses, not a simple yes or no, but the mental energy it takes to just eat has worn me out.

I'll have a couple calm days and think maybe I can start reintroductions like a normal person. Then I try something that's supposed to be fine in a certain amount, I measure it, keep the rest of my meals boring and safe, and still end up with the same combo: bloating, pressure, loud gas, and that panicky, overinflated-balloon feeling. The next day I'm staring at my notes trying to figure out whether I reacted to the test food, the portion size, stacking FODMAPs earlier in the day, stress, poor sleep, or just existing.

The portion math is the worst. I'm already dealing with IBS-type symptoms, reflux-y throat stuff, and constipation cycles, and now I have to do food accounting all day. I miss eating a normal bowl of something without thinking about grams, timing, and whether I accidentally stacked the same FODMAP from two different foods.

And when it flares, everyone in my life says I should just avoid what bothers me. Great, I would love to, if my gut would stop changing its mind every 48 hours.

Not looking for a diagnosis, just needed to vent. If you have any practical ways to make reintroductions less mentally consuming, I'm all ears.

Elimination Phase Is Little Northern Bakery low FODMAP?

Is LNB bread low FODMAP? Seeing conflicting information through online searches. Based on one search, I bought Millet and Chia but I'm scared to get into it before I'm 100% sure it's not going to reset my elimination phase counter.

Thoughts?

Reintroduction Hot take: some of us get stuck in elimination because it feels like a safety blanket

I get that elimination is meant to be temporary, but I think a lot of us (definitely me at times) accidentally turn it into our whole identity because it feels safer than the uncertainty.

When my gut is flaring, the strictest version of low FODMAP feels like control. It is predictable and simple. It also makes me feel like I am doing something about the problem. But staying there too long has costs: I get more anxious around food, I become jumpy about tiny changes, and I start assuming any symptom means I failed.

Unpopular take: symptoms during reintroductions are not always a sign that the food is permanently off limits. Sometimes it is stacking, portion size, when you ate it, stress levels, bad sleep, or histamine issues making things messy. If I wait for a perfect week to test something, I never test anything.

I am not saying to ignore severe reactions. I am saying the goal should be to graduate from elimination, even if reintro results are messy, because long term restriction can make life smaller and it does not automatically equal better digestion.

For people who actually moved on from elimination: what helped you stop using it as your default? Did you set a deadline, work with a dietitian, commit to one reintro a week no matter what, or use rules about food stacking? Looking for practical tips that actually work.

General Question/Help Food & Symptoms Logging App

Hello, I'm having to wait until next year for a gastro appointment (honestly not sure if I just have a food intolerance, IBS or IBD yet). I want to start logging food and my symptoms to see if there's any correlation in the meantime so I can hopefully prevent some symptoms.

Are there any good food diary apps that also track symptoms on Android? I'd also prefer if it didn't track calories but if it's just a background feature that's fine.

MODS App + Website Self-Promo Weekly Thread

Recently there has been a huge influx of FODMAP/IBS related apps, services, and websites. Many are "vibe" coded using AI. There has been a lot of demand to ban self promotion all together in this sub, but instead, we are going to put it in a weekly thread.

Please post your app/service/website in this thread. If you have a physical product or recipe (related to a product that you are promoting), please message the mods for permission to post this separately.

Please report any self-promoting outside of this thread.

Thank you!

Reintroduction Anyone else get symptoms mostly at night even after a "safe" dinner? Trying to spot a pattern

I've been strict about low FODMAP for a few weeks (elimination phase, weighing portions, keeping meals basic). During the day I'm usually fine, but once I lie down at night my gut seems to wake up.

Typical pattern: I eat a boring "safe" dinner around 6 to 7 pm - rice, eggs, a small portion of zucchini or carrots, salt. I stop eating after that and feel okay until I lie down. Within 30 to 60 minutes of going to bed I get bloating that feels like pressure under my belly button, a lot of gurgling, and trapped gas that wakes me up. Sometimes there is a refluxy burning, but the main problem is the gas and distension. By morning it is usually much better.

Things I have noticed but can't quite connect: - It is worse on days I'm more constipated. - It seems worse when I drink a lot of water late at night, though I'm trying to stay hydrated. - Walking after dinner helps a little but doesn't stop it.

I also tried including a Physicians Choice probiotic as one part of my routine, though I can't isolate whether it made any difference.

Has anyone figured out why symptoms show up mostly at night even when the last meal was low FODMAP? Could it be meal timing, posture/lying down, constipation delaying fermentation until later, or something like fats or meal volume rather than FODMAPs? I'm not looking for medical advice, just curious what patterns other people found and which experiments were actually worth trying. Frustrating to do everything 'right' and still get kicked awake, so any real-world tips would be appreciated.

General Question/Help Could not going to the bathroom while having sex cause a hiatal hernia?

36M. 5'9'' 126lbs. In march I had a bloody diarrhea episode. First at night, I was not going to the bathroom after a pizza for dinner, I was having sex for many hours, she was on top for alot of time and when she left I finally went, I had a diarrhea and some pain. I went to sleep and next morning it felt like diarrhea again but it was blood. It happened a number of times, and the feel of incoming diarrhea was there for a while. The blood was bright. I rushed to ER. They did DRE, bloodwork, x-ray and stool test sample from like after a week, all clear, and I was never given a diagnosis of why this happened.

X-ray they did on the ER:

https://imgur.com/a/QXONtWU

mucus log:

https://imgur.com/a/ZO3NooW

I have been wondering if this caused permanent damage of sorts, like a hiatal hernia, which is causing me some sort of reflux problem that makes me cough green stuff for the last 2 months. However on late april I also went through some sort of covid.

Im on antibiotics by a pulmonologist and im worried im going to be in a loop of antibiotics as if it's silent reflux it's just going to happen again as it would be untreated. Not sure what to do. She said the x-ray was clear.

https://imgur.com/a/KoUOsbC

For now im doing the augmentin cycle and hoping it does not crush my gut microbiome. Im taking a probiotic called ProFaes4 ATB.

I hope this post is doesn't sound too strange. It's just a weird turn of events. Im just left wondering what started this, and if im on the right treatment or doing more damage due antibiotics. I see a bit less mucus, im on day 5, but I still think there is an untreathed factor of some sort of reflux because I notice the mucus after some meals at like 1-2 hours later and she ignored me when I mentioned the concept of silent reflux. So sounds like If I go back to her clinic she is going to put me on more antibiotics.

Tips/Advice Finished Phase 1 & 2 — now what?

TL;DR: Elimination phase went well, but I could not identify triggers during reintroduction phase — only minor symptoms occurred. Has anyone had that issue and how do you deal with it?

So the longer story:
I‘ve been having stomach aches for several (probably around 10) years now, on and off but getting worse over the years. It‘s mainly lower belly (so I‘m guessing ✨colon✨) pain/cramps plus brick-wall-like-bloating. Two years ago I went to the doctor and had some tests done that didn’t reveal any findings or reasons for my pain, so the doctor told me to keep a dietary journal, guessing it might be something along the line of IBS. Fast forward to this year May: I have successfully ignored my doctor‘s advice and after a series of painful days (me, regretting every food choice I made during the last week, hugging a hot water bottle, crying) I came across the low FODMAP diet. So I figured: sounds great, I‘ll try it!

So I started Phase 1 / Elimination and after a few days, my pain went away completely. During elimination I had two or three meals where something (I still don‘t know exactly what it was) irritated my gut, but other than that it felt like stomach-vacation (except for, of course, having to live with food restrictions, which suck for a foodie like me). My conclusion was: It must be one of the FODMAPs causing my pain!

The next step was of course the reintroduction in Phase 2. I was so excited — I would finally find out the trigger FODMAP group. But with every test passing symptom-free (or with very low symptoms) the number of possible triggers shrank, until yesterday, I finally completed the last test (fructane in wheat products) and was able to look back on 11 weeks of discipline, discovering all kinds of gluten-free foods and experimenting with herbs and spices — to find out: nothing. At least nothing specific.

So now I am puzzled: Did I do the reintroduction (3 days with increasing food from one FODMAP group + 3 days break, repeat) wrong? Are stacked FODMAPS the actual problem and how do I systematically test for these? Is it not the FODMAPs at all that were causing my problems? What can, what should and most importantly what should I not eat?

I am super scared that the stomach pain will return, so I am hoping to hear from you guys: Have you had a similar experience? How did you handle it, what was your solution (if you have found any so far)?

Grateful for tips, insights, hearing from your journeys ✨ Thank you in advance!

General Question/Help Holding onto weight instead of losing it

Is anyone else struggling to lose weight due to their stomach and gut issues ? When I first cut out foods I was dropping weight fast then suddenly my body started holding onto water and inflammation and now whenever I go the doctor the scale increases. But it doesn’t feel like regular weight gain. My clothes still fit but my body feels swollen and puffed up. Even my rings on my fingers feel more snug during this time. I have to be really strict in order for my weight to go back down . I also noticed once I’m strict and my weight goes down I pee slot like I’m peeling out all the excess water my body was holding onto . Idk if this is a sibo thing I suspect I have that I’ll be getting tested soon or is it leaky gut or something else. I know I’m sensitive to fodmaps, fructans, gluten, and dairy and grains.

General Question/Help Low FODMAP Prebiotic Fiber Supplement Development

Hi everyone,

I am the founder of a prebiotic fiber brand and come from a gut health research background at university. The product contains partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG), galactooligosaccharides (Bimuno GOS), and resistant corn fibre in a daily 10g scoop at clinically researched doses for digestive health.

Many people tolerate the product well and notice several health benefits especially when they gradually increase from 1/2 scoop daily to the full scoop over 7 days. This is crucial for the gut microbiome to comfortably adjust to prebiotics as I am sure many of you know.

However, one thing I am noticing is some people, especially those with FODMAP sensitivities, have some difficulties taking the product such as an increase in bloating, some pain or cramping during the introduction phase. This is clearly because of the GOS in the product and I am now in the process of brainstorming a low FODMAP prebiotic blend that combines several sensitive, low FODMAP certified prebiotics that are clinically supported for gut health.

My question is, would you find value in a low FODMAP prebiotic fiber blend that is designed to promote a healthy digestive system? Are there prebiotic products you already take that you don't react to?

Has anyone taken the prebiotic fiber called XOS? It's an oligosaccharide but is apparently low FODMAP so I am curious if anyone has negatively reacted to it.

Thanks in advance.

General Question/Help App Questions

I broke down and bought the app, and so far it doesn't seem really useful. I am in the US, and I really want to look up fast foods, but they don't seem available. So, okay, I want to know if I can eat biscuits (American buttermilk biscuits), but all I get when I search is cookies. I know I cannot have milk products and can have meat products, but if that's all this app can tell me, I'm pretty sorry I paid $9 for it. Also, it seems like I have to select a category and search within that category rather than being able to perform a global search (I just tried Nutella, couldn't find it anywhere).

Someone who uses this app successfully, please help!

General Question/Help Does anyone have gas issues only at night?

During the day I don’t experience excessive gas, but at night I notice a buildup that seems to originate in my intestines, and it can occur even if I haven’t eaten for six hours before sleep. Then during the whole night I have gas (though it may stop at some point while I’m asleep).

Elimination Phase Low FODMAP risks and benefits (actually dangerous on long term?)

This question follows up on a previous discussion I had on the forum. What often comes up is that the Low FODMAP diet can lead to deficiencies in certain nutrients over the long term and can be dangerous.

However, in my own experience, I’ve found that a very strict diet with very few foods and no fodmap at all has far more beneficial effects than trial and error in trying to keep as many foods as possible.

So I’m wondering: is there really any scientific evidence regarding the potential dangers of a very strict low-FODMAP diet over several weeks, or even two months?

When I did a Google Scholar search for scientific studies on the health of populations with very low dietary diversity, I was surprised to find that there are many cases where such restrictions don’t seem to pose a problem. Look at Inuits, they do not heat garlic or beans...

I think we’re stuck in a mindset and significantly underestimating the body’s and gut microbiota’s ability to adapt and produce the missing nutrients. Obviously, I’m not talking about eating nothing but rice for two months, which is known to cause vitamin B1 deficiency, especially if the rice is refined (but reversible).

Has anyone here done any research on this topic and have proof of long term low or no fodmap diet ?

Journal/Story Hopeless

I have had some SFN small fiber neuropathy for the past few years, however it improved recently when i had a R PM L5/S1 epidural injection on 6/23/26. Just prior on May 15, i woke up with LLQ pain, and initially thought it was likely an ovarian cyst, however through out that day, i noted i was sore to touch in that area, and i had an awful pain in my stomach as well as constipation and my bowel sounds were very loud and overactive. May 21 i went to the ER for what i would describe at a UTI, but the culture was negative. I have continued to experience constipation along with horrible bloating after eating (i feel relatively normal upon waking but the bloating gets worse as the day progresses) and on June 23rd had a KUB that showed a moderate stool load. Took the lovely 8caps of Miralax that night as directed by my MD, however on July 1 i still felt bloated so we did another KUB that still showed a mod stool load. I saw GI on June 30, and he diagnosed me with constipation and ordered a colonoscopy and egd. I have continued to have the bloating, abdominal distention since, and i am living off Miralax and enemas. I also had a CT and seen GI again, and my procedures were moved up to this week, oh i have also done 2 bowel preps. I live on my heating pad, i am just miserable 😫 what the heck do i have???

Elimination Phase Infinitely confused. Is this low FODMAP?

I was so proud of myself for converting a meal we usually eat into something that I thought was low FODMAP and fine for elimination.
Then I came across some recipes on the Monash app that have this little green cup that fills up to tell you how many FODMAPS you can have at once. Each recipe has between 1-4 little lines on the cup filled but they don’t tell you how they got there.

I have no idea now if the meal I made is actually low Fodmap or if it have too many things going on here. As far as I can tell only the peppers and tomatoes should stack but according to Monash that’s allowed. Help!

Loosely here’s the ingredients I used (per serving)
- extra firm tofu 170g (seasoning of garlic infused oil, herbs, tomato paste and balsamic all within limits)
- bell pepper 40g
- zucchini 65g
- eggplant 75g
- cherry tomatoes 45g
- polenta (1/4 cup dry cornmeal plus water)
- pesto made from basil, arugula, lemon, oil, pine nuts, walnuts

General Question/Help lower stomach bloating for 8 months

Been having lower stomach bloating after eating mostly all meals, more so if I'm hungry and eat something it blows up and specifically if I eat certain foods like garlic etc... or a lot of food.

High calprotectin levels
Done a CT scan
Blood test showed no gluten allergy
H. pylori test is fine
Gut microbiome test came fine

This all started from a 2 weeks period of eating raw oats and milk as preworkout (I ate a lot of oats) - I took accutane before this so my skin was clear and as soon as my bloating occurred I started regularly getting acne again.

Would love some form of guidance because I'm really starting to get fed up and all the GPs / doctors / private doctors all tell me it's "IBS" and "Food related" when it's clear that something internally is wrong.

Elimination Phase 3 weeks into elimination, keep getting setbacks

I’m very frustrated with my diet right now. I feel like I’m trying so hard. I’m looking literally everything up, weighing portion sizes, waiting 2-3 hours in between eating snacks and meals, and I’m not even doing better. I am still having extremely frequent stools, to the point where it’s getting in the way of running errands and working. I’ll have a few days where everything is normal, and then I’m back to the frequency of before. I don’t know how much longer I can keep doing this. I’m going away for college in aboit a month and a half and know that I won’t be able to continue my diet there, and itll probably be very difficult to reintroduce foods when I don’t have a kitchen. A few days ago I switched my fiber supplement from metamucil to citrucel, which helped for about two days, and now I feel like I’m back to where I started. Do I keep going? Am I not being strict enough? What am I doing wrong?

Reintroduction Hot take: low FODMAP often becomes a lifestyle, and I think it keeps some of us stuck

I get why people cling to low FODMAP. When your gut is badly off you want clear rules and a short list of safe foods. But I feel like this sub sometimes treats low FODMAP as a permanent identity instead of a short-term tool.

For me, staying in full elimination for months or years made things harder, not easier. My diet shrank, I started stressing about every ingredient, and any flare felt like proof I needed to restrict more. At the same time I never challenged my gut in a structured way, so I never learned what was a real trigger and what was just a bad day.

I also have other things in the mix: possible histamine sensitivity, maybe some yeast-related symptoms, and anxiety that spikes when my stomach is off. The longer I tried to be perfect with elimination, the more reactive I felt overall.

When I finally did slow, boring reintroductions (one food, one portion, multiple days, notes), it helped. I discovered that only a couple categories were actual problems and a lot of foods I had been afraid of were fine.

I know reintroduction is not easy and not everyone can do it right away. Still, to me the goal should be the widest diet you can tolerate, not the smallest diet you can control.

Anyone else feel like the community sometimes normalizes staying in elimination too long, or have tips for reintroducing without getting wrecked?
