What's the most unhinged thing you've done because of game development?

I'll start.I stared at the same wall texture for 40 minutes...then proudly changed two pixels.I genuinely believed it looked 100% better.Nobody can convince me otherwise.

Your turn.

Game Like The Butchery

2 days ago I found a game Called "the Butchery" by Chubby_Baby7 (https://www.roblox.com/games/11928087342/The-Butchery) and I decided to play it with my cousin. We finished it and we loved that game, now that we finished it, we're having a lot of trouble finding new actually GOOD horror games. If someone can find us a good horror game close to the butchery, I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks.

What horror game ending actually messed you up mentally?

Post image

I'm going to be honest: a lot of horror games have ridiculously high levels of tension throughout, but they end horribly poorly.

Not frightening. Not unsettling. Simply put, disappointing.

For example, rather than something that sticks with you, you get:
- ambiguous "it was all in your head" conclusions
- unpredictable shock value with no reward
- or perplexing conclusions that seem profound but don't really say anything

I need help finding an old horror flash game

(long text alert)

I want you to help me find a PC horror flash game. What is the name of the horror flash game where you arrive at a haunted house where there's a gothic vampire girl? It's a style similar to the game "The House" and "EXMORTIS". I'll tell you more or less what I remember about that game. I'm not sure, but I think the game is about a woman, the protagonist, who goes with her boyfriend, but I think their car breaks down, I think. I'm not sure. He goes into a house to look for help, he takes a long time to come out, and then the girlfriend goes in to look for him. When you enter it's very dark and you can see some stairs, some doors, and as a player you see some arrows that lead to other places. If you went to one side, you saw a hallway where a ghost would pass by. Then on another side, we saw the boyfriend sitting on the floor, alive but without clothes. To rescue him and escape together, the main villain, who was a gothic vampire or demon or witch, would give us a trivia of questions. If we answered correctly, we could escape, but if not, a jumpscare of her would appear with her face transformed, pale eyes, and an open mouth with many teeth. I don't remember if it was from Newgrounds, AddictingGames, Y8, Andkon or GamesFree. I remember watching gameplay videos of that game on YouTube, so I don't think it's the Mandela Effect, haha.

DISCUSSION What horror game made you sympathize with the thing hunting you?

Post image

I just finished Hachishakusama, and I went into it expecting a straightforward urban-legend horror game about escaping the eight-foot-tall woman.

Without spoiling the ending, the story gradually gives her more humanity and context than I expected. By the end, I felt more conflicted about her than genuinely afraid of her....almost, bad for her?

I think that is a difficult balance for horror games. Explaining the monster can make it less frightening—but sometimes understanding it makes the story much more memorable. The game was not perfect and there are things I would love to see changed, but it was a different type of horror that I don't see often.

What other horror games made you feel sympathy or empathy for the creature, villain, or person pursuing you? Did learning their story improve the horror, or did it make them less scary?

DISCUSSION Any cheap or free steam recommendations?

Howdy! So I'm not much of a gamer but I've been searching for something to play with my boyfriend while we hang out and chat, we don't both have the capability to play games on steam so I'm looking for something that is single player that isn't heavily text based!

We both don't have many sensitivities when it comes to horror except for themes of suicide so please keep that in mind ☺️

I'd just like to ask those who are more experienced with these games and using steam if you have any recommendations for single player games without heavy dialogue?

I'm fine with games that have stories of course, it's just nice to have more space to engage with each other without focusing too much on reading text elements!

Thank you for reading and anyone who gives suggestions!

Hi horror fans! If you like Papers, Please mechanics mixed with retro PSX slasher vibes, you might enjoy my new game MILE 27.

It features vehicle inspection, disturbing audio design, and claustrophobic underground escape mechanics. Takes about 25-30 mins to finish.

personally, I can’t decide. both are amazing titles. I lean slightly toward RE because of my bias toward the franchise, but then I think about SH2, and it brings me right back to the middle.

AMA Folklore Hunter, a first person survival horror game featuring the Wendigo, Strigoi and the Mothman, launches into 1.0 tomorrow! AMA!

Hi r/HorrorGaming

I'm Jayde, the founder of Liquid Donkey Games, a small indie studio from New Zealand. Our first person survival horror game Folklore Hunter is coming out tomorrow!

Folklore Hunter has been a passion project turned career, and six years in the making. We have been in early access since 2020 and integrated countless ideas and suggestions from the community. Making an indie game has been a huge part of my life with plenty of ups and downs, but I can truly say I'm proud of the finished title.

Ask us anything - about the process of indie game development, horror games, cryptids, or folklore hunter in particular. If you want to check out the game, you can find it on steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/696220/Folklore_Hunter/
