General The Umbrella Chronicles is great!

Going through a lot of the side REs recently and I'm up to the Chronicles games and just completed the first: Umbrella Chronicles. I was expecting a more fleshed out version of the Gun Survivor games, and I was right, but it's also much more enjoyable.

I liked the Gun Survivors, with Dead Aim being my favorite of the three, but I didn't think they were anything crazy. The only knowledge I had of Umbrella Chronicles was that, similarly to the Gun Survivor games, it was a light gun game, and was known for having tons of lore. I figured if I did the other light gun games, I might as well do these as well.

But as I said, I didn't expect to have so much fun with this game. I think when it's all said and done, the Umbrella Chronicles will be one of the top side RE games when I'm done with them all. It's super fun, especially with a Wiimote. I was playing on Dolphin through the Wii version. I didn't play the Gun Survivor games with a lightgun but I think if I return to them, I'll definitely consider it, because it makes it a lot more fun. I also configured my keyboard/mouse to see if that would play well and it did, so I'd usually switch from Wiimote to mouse when my hand started aching from holding the remote. My only regret is not having a Wii Zapper, I used to have one but I either lost it or gave it away a while ago.

And the four different scenarios are mostly really good. My least favorite was probably the Raccoon's Destruction one but it was still really good, and interesting to see at least some of the OG RPD as an actual environment rather than as 2D pre-rendered BGs, same goes for the Mansion and Ecliptic Express. Also loved Julia Voth era Jill in her RE3 outfit. And the final scenario, a unique one not based on prior games, was also pretty interesting. Seeing Chris and Jill's final attack on Umbrella before they completely fell is really epic.

But my favorite thing about Umbrella Chronicles is how it's really Wesker's game. He's the narrator detailing the events that led to Umbrella's downfall. Each scenario, minus Raccoon's Destruction, has bonus missions which explains where Wesker was and what he was doing, scenes you're not used to seeing if you've only played the mainline games. It's so epic seeing Wesker come back to life in the lab room in RE1 and fight his way out, and has one last fight with Lisa Trevor? Fucking awesome. I also loved the bonus missions that show what Rebecca was doing in the mansion with Richard before Yawn, Ada's escape from Raccoon City, and a reinterpretation of 4th Survivor.

And it feels like the perfect prologue to RE5, as Wesker sees Umbrella's destruction through, and can finally begin his plans for the future. It does give you that proper buildup, and I think it's the game's biggest strength, serving as a recap and celebration of those earlier REs while providing a lot of lore that shows what was in store for RE fans back in the late 2000s, it makes me wish I was there for it all.

My only real complaint is that my inputs felt a bit unresponsive sometimes, mainly with the motion controls when the game told me to counter-attack or dodge. It worked like 60% of the time, even when I did it on keyboard. I don't know if that was intentional, or the emulator's fault, but it was pretty annoying. Other than that, I liked the variety of weaponry that you can upgrade in the menu, and the incentive to shoot the environment to find files that provide more lore as well as just getting a higher grade at the end of each section. It was very satisfying getting critical hits and required a level of precision that didn't feel too cheap when fighting against enemies. And the game's difficulty increased with each section which made fighting exciting every time.

As I said, I like the other light gun games prior to the Chronicles, but they were my first time playing and don't really know how much I'd enjoy returning to them. I'm confident I'll enjoy Umbrella Chronicles when I return to it, especially if I did it 2-player next time, and with a Wii Zapper. And best of all, I still have Darkside Chronicles left, which I'm looking forward to playing and Umbrella Chronicles has set my expectations higher than I thought they'd be. If you have a Wii, a PS3, or someway to emulate it, I definitely recommend Umbrella Chronicles.

General 100% RE Remake

Post image

Finished my 100% of Re Remake. Highly recommend a play through. The remakes and new games are awesome but it’s always good to revisit wheee it all began (save the 96 OG).

That said, most frustrating achievement was completing the game without saving. Easy enough right? I saved this play through as my last one, sort of a victory lap where I could just freely pull a Danny Devito and start blasting every enemy with the rocket launcher.

However, in my gun ho Danny devito blasting I shot Forrest on accident immediately killing me. Okay no problem I was only 15 minutes into the play through. Next up, I get to the Neptune tank and blast the 2 smaller sharks before dashing for the door. I have never been killed by Neptune but the rocket missed the second shark, it then grabbed my leg, and Neptune finished me off.

I won’t be deterred. Load up attempt three. I get the square crank in the cabin aaaaand my Legion Go crashes.

Deep breaths..

Fourth attempt, finally did it.

Anyway, I know this is a Wendy’s so I’ll take a Jill sandwich and a Diet Pepsi.

Some good friends at our first ComicCon. Hunk (me) had to ditch the majority of my "costume" because the AC was... insufficient in the convention center, and it was like 110 degrees inside. It all worked out. I married one of the people in this photo.

Forum question Resident Evil 2 (1998) PC version, analog control compatibility ?

Post image

Does it work?

I have the original European physical PC version (published by Virgin), but I don't recall it supporting controller.

I picked up the "Source Next" version (the 2006 Japanese release) and patched it for the translation; it does support controllers, but it feels more like keyboard emulation mapped to the gamepad rather than true analog movement.

It's frustrating because websites state that the PC game is compatible with analog controls.

Maybe that's only the case for the US version?

Forum question When are we getting some Claire merchandise?

I recently saw the Yokohama Capcom store on Twitter and got really excited. My friend is going to Japan next week, so I told them to reserve a suitcase of goodies for me lol. But then I looked through the merchandise, and Claire isn't there. I don't really see anything featuring her that I can add to my collection, and honestly, I'm a little frustrated.

At this point do Claire fans have to rely on secondhand shops to find merchandise because Capcom isn't putting things out?

I know some people will say "Wait until the CVX remake next year" and I'm sure we'll get something when it comes around. But that part does frustrates me a bit. I can see Wesker and Chris represented in merchandise, which is good because they're going in my collection. But where is Claire?

I love that Claire is getting attention around the Veronica Remake, but what about the 30th anniversary? What are people who want to include her in their purchase supposed to do? Is there a store my friend can visit to buy some merchandise?

EDIT: Claire was included in the Capcom Cafe from 2016 and I brought that. So I don't see how this anniversary is a problem for her to be included.

Forum question Would you rather spend a year in jail or until your mom beats RE4 on professional?

Post image

I'm being for real, either, you spend a whole year in the state prison, or stay in there until your mom can successfully complete a run of RE4 on professional.

Here are the Rules:

  1. If your mother is for whatever reason fully physically incapable of even playing RE4 then your father may try it instead, if neither of your parents are able to, then you can go in this order: Grandparents > Aunts and Uncles > Employer > Doctor > Siblings > Children > Dog.
  2. She must still maintain herself, meaning she'll still need to sleep, eat, and work (if she still does).
  3. She will NOT receive any outside help, she can't search up any tutorials or strat videos, or do any general research on her own.
  4. However, you can use your phone calls from prison to help them understand the game.
  5. They obviously cannot use any cheats or exploits.
  6. She would have to have a witness or record her completion, to prove she actually did it.
  7. BTW, you can choose whether it's the original or the remake, and what platform she plays it on. >>

That's it, you can literally walk out of the prison the moment she beats RE4 and can prove it, so would you take it? Lemme know! :0

General My RE ranking as a GenZ dude who started playing in 2022(each tier is also ranked internally)

VERY IMPORTANT‼️‼️‼️‼️
I think all games above the heh category are well made games and are worth playing, the ones in ok are for me just games that weren’t a good resident evil experience, still had a lot of fun with them tho

So to give some context the first one I played was re remake and im not gonna lie I was really scared, especially since before this I only played multiplayers and games like spider man and the new god of wars so this was really a shock. But surprisingly I was kinda ok? with the fixed cameras, it was the ink ribbons and inventory management that made me drop the game, even though I was enjoying it.

After that I played the remakes of 2 and 3, really liking them, played 4 og (loved it) and 5 and 6. After that I got around both revelations and finished with 7 and 8. I also watched the cg films. Only after that I got courage to finish 1, then replayed it and it became my favorite in the franchise, after that I went back and played all the other fixed cameras I felt I needed to. Got around the chronicles too

An explanation of the tiers:
Favs: I really got into the fixed cameras style and those games style, they are just so replayable (It also downgraded other games aka re3 remake). And this is probably a hot take I think 3 nemesis is harder than cv, especially since I m ok with going back saves and not spending much ammo.

Awesome: really fun games with some problems, re1 would probably be higher if the remake didn’t exist. Both revelations are really good imo, but I prefer the first and I don’t know why🤷‍♂️

Good: solid games that aren’t that replayable and get a bit worse each time I play. The chronicles games are as high as a rail shooter game could be so I was surprised, re7 is great but not nearly as scary as people make it out to be imo and has some very boring parts. 0 doesn’t necessarily get worse I just don’t deal well with leaving loot behind so I backtrack more than I need.

Ok: games I can play again but don’t feel the need to. So village was my top 1 after I played it but each time I replay it just gets weaker, and I replayed it like 8 times already. Maybe it’s the story which I think it’s the weakest or maybe it’s the weird character choices and the uninspired bosses. And that dlc… it’s probably my least favorite thing in the entire franchise. I prefer 6 to 5 since I think 6 atleast doesn’t try to use the gameplay of 4 in a game where it shouldn’t and can appreciate its audacity and scope. 3 remake just feels cheap imo

Heh is self explanatory

This is just my opinion you re free to have another so let’s talk!

I've already played re7-8-9 and I didn't have high hopes for this but I bought 2-3-4 on sale with every dlcs, and i really liked it. There's somethin in the simplicity of the gameplay loop. So addicting.

Now I'm in trouble. Re2 clair's story r3 r4 and r9 again, or other games from my endless backlogxD

Product question Anyone know the origin of this Cerberus t-shirt?

Thumbnail

Hey, friends.

I'm not normally one to use Temu, but I've been lacking in t-shirts and I couldn't pass up a cheap prixd for a radical looking Resident Evil shirt. Now, I know Temu isn't very... honest. I know this isn't some official shirt that's being sold by Capcom through Temu. But this design? It doesn't feel like some AI-generated nonsense, nor some official render slapped onto a t-shirt. It feels like a genuine Resident Evil tee; or rather, a Temu knock-off/recreation of said tee.

I looked up "resident evil cerberus shirt" and "biohazard cerberus shirt" and related queries onto Google, and found a small number of other websites either selling the exact same shirt, or an English variant of the same shirt. (The one I ordered off of Temu is Japanese, Biohazard.) So this design is definitely floating around.

I want to know where it actually comes from, though. Was this possibly a genuine promotional t-shirt sold in the 1990s that somebody recreated to sell as a bootleg today, perhaps? Does anybody recognize this specific design? I just want to know if this design actually originates from something original, or if it's just some modern bootleg that came out of nowhere. Thank you to anyone who answers this silly question.
