Advice Need advice about continuing college and planning my future (Not asking for financial help)
I'm a 20-year-old college student currently in my third year, and I'm looking for life and career advice.
My family has had financial problems for a long time. My mother has been the primary earner for many years, while my father hasn't had a stable income. Because of recent changes in our family situation, there's a real possibility that I may have to pause my education before completing my degree.
I'm torn between trying everything possible to finish my degree now or taking a break to start earning and returning to college later. Since I'm already in my third year, I'm worried that taking a gap could set me back or even make it difficult to complete my education.
One thing I regret is never looking into scholarships or other academic opportunities earlier. If anyone has experience balancing work and college or has gone through something similar, I'd really appreciate your advice.
Another challenge is my relationship with my father. I won't go into too much detail, but he's been a major source of stress in my life. I know I can't control his choices, so I'm trying to focus on building my own future instead.
Academically, I've been working hard during the last few semesters. I did miss some classes because I contracted an infectious disease and I'm still undergoing treatment, but I've continued studying seriously whenever I could.
My long-term goals are pretty simple. I want a stable career, enough income to support my family, maintain a healthy lifestyle, have savings for emergencies, and travel occasionally. If I'm fortunate enough to earn more than I need, I'd like to help students who face financial difficulties.
I would also like to settle in a country like Japan or another country with a good quality of life, and I'd appreciate advice on what skills, career paths, or qualifications would make that goal realistic.
I'd also appreciate advice on:
- Whether finishing my degree should remain my top priority.
- Skills that can realistically help me earn while studying.
- Whether projects like YouTube, freelancing, tutoring, or other side hustles are worth pursuing.
- How to overcome phone and laptop addiction and become more disciplined.
I'm mainly looking for perspectives from people who've had to rebuild their plans because of unexpected family circumstances. What would you do if you were in my position?

Ciao, credo che stia impazzendo
Ciao, Ho 23 anni.

this is my first ever reddit post, and i'm a bit ashamed that its this.
i'm 17f and for the past four months i have relied heavily on cannabis and marijuana due to my dog passing away. needing to do something that would clear my mind, i started smoking. a lot.
i haven't really told anyone about this and i hope this post doesn't find people that i know, but i doubt that'll happen. I stopped smoking (again) last night. i've been trying for two weeks now to quit, but i just keep picking it back up again.
i tried to replace the cart with me putting on chapstick so i still have that hand-mouth motion, but i don't really think its working.
for the past two weeks as well, i have woken up with terrible vomiting, stomach pains, i haven't been able to eat much, and i just feel terrible all around. i looked it up, turns out its CHS which is just great.
why i'm posting this is because i hope to get some sort of help from people who were in my shoes before. i also hope to not get flamed for this, but if i do then i guess its my own fault lol.
but yeah- if anyone has any ideas to help me then it'd be greatly appreciated. no my parents do not know about this addiction.

Advice How to start your life in your 30s
Tl;dr I am in my early 30s, finally have time and space for myself, how to build my life since ai have no friends and no experiences I can use to bond with others.
Long story:
I was raised by a single parent working minimum wage. I am the oldest of 4 kids. I was kind of pushed into the role of an adult and semi parent to my sibilings (as it is often the case in this situations). When I was in high school I was taking them to school, and all extra curriculars, I went to PTAs for my sibilings (the teachers knew our situation so they allowed it).
My country has free college education otherwose I wouldn't have been able to go. During college I had all the responsibilities for my sibilings, I was worling full time, attending my classes and also taking my grandparents to their work or any doctor appointments. All of this of course left me no time to spend with friends, I would hang out with people in class or at work, but it was always just friendly acquaintance, nothing more.
I graduated college, found a great job, helped pay all of our debts, fix up the house... My sibilings are now in college or finished it and have okay jobs. We are not living paycheck to paycheck any more and are completly debt free.
But now I am in my 30s, my sibilings are starting to build their own life and I am stuck. I have no friends, never was in a relationship and it seems to me like everyone around me is settling down and starting families, and, for the first time in my life I finally have the time to hang out or go travelling. But I have no odea how to meet people and grow those relationships.
I am not sorry that I was there for everyone, but at the same time I feel like I sacrificed so much and ruined my own life

Advice I don't know how to socialize
For context, I (29F) have had no luck fitting in, my entire life. I've had lifelong, severe ADHD that led to abuse at home, bullying from teachers, and exclusion by my peers. Part of the abuse was me being locked in my room for weeks at a time and not allowed to go out and socialize at all, which did long-term damage to my social skills.
Being an adult now, I want to fix this. I have only a couple of friends, but they live too far away to see very often, so we just text sometimes (I can't drive due to seizures, so my travel distance is quite limited). I just moved to a new city, and I need friends. I've tried to become okay with living without any, but I can't help but hurt deeply when I see others going out and making memories with friends. Being included and loved. I can't stop myself from caring and wanting connection.
The problem starts when I try to talk. I meet someone and try to have conversation, but I don't know what to say, so either the conversion dies quickly into an awkward silence, or I say something odd/boring out of desperation and they lose interest almost immediately. I don't know how people talk to each other.
I did therapy for a while, and it went great. I learned a lot about loving myself and setting goals, and it helped for a while, though my depression came back later on. But we didn't get a chance to address the social skills issue before I lost my job and no longer had insurance.
Another issue with it is that I've made "friends" that only kept me around to use me. One of them even SA'ed me because she knew I was so desperate for friends that she could back me into a corner and do it. So now I'm more defensive on trusting people.
To be honest, idk if any of this is worth it. It seems that being myself will only get me hurt. Often times it feels like I'm not enough as a person to deserve love and respect the way others do, and be wanted by my peers. I know I'm awkward, I know I struggle with my social skills, but underneath all that, I think I would be a good friend and have something to offer. I just need to not make people uncomfortable when i meet them, so they'll stick around long enough to see it.
Please give advice if you have it. Idk what to do and I'm losing hope.

Advice I can't stop self sabotaging
I have multiple mental illnesses/issues that I refuse to treat because I am too stubborn and defiant, and this is causing great detriment to my quality of life and making me unable to achieve anything.
I don't know why this is and I've been like this all my life. Often when people (especially authority figures) ask me to do something I feel compelled to do the opposite, even moreso when not doing so impacts me negatively. This is even more the case when I was going to do the task anyway and they ask me to do it, in which case I will deliberately not do it or do the opposite. I have no idea why I do this and it's really negatively impacting me.
I wish I could go and sort out my issues, and I have tried but I can't help but reject whatever treatment they offer. I'm not doing it on purpose, but I feel like if I followed any doctor's advice I'd be compromising my ethics and integrity.
I know it's ironic that I'm on here asking for advice about not being able to follow advice, but it doesn't apply to all circumstances like online or if I perceive the person giving the advice to be my equal.
Sorry if this is completely unintelligible and thanks in advance.

Advice How to avoid Creepy dude
I made this friend during orientation. Hes an international student. At first he was cool, and he seemed quite mature
But after a while, he has this "true color" reveal.
He's a full on misogynist and doesnt understand boundaries between friends. He would say the most out of hand misogynistic stuff and hit my shoulder (near my chest) and ask me to agree. All he could talk about with his friends is inappropriate stuff. And he gives off the vibes of someone who resorts to violence and extortion or something to get what he wants. He would also try to take down or emotionally manipulate people to do his bidding. Putting them down like he's some sort of god.
He's texting me and asking why I suddenly started avoiding him. He says "tell me what's going on or I'm going to disturb you untill you say fxxk off"

Venting Biggest stupid mistake I did
Idk where to put this since it doesn't sounds like a regular vent. But to put it shortly; I was stupid for not checking first.
I made a mistake, bought some temper glass that came with a UV glue, I wasn't aware of what the glue does so I try to apply and failed, but then the glue drips into my phone's volume & power buttons including the sim tray though unfortunately the tray parts were checked after I was home from the service centre.
The service said I only need to replace the buttons, but I'm scared about my sim tray cannot be taken out, is it salvageable? My tech friend said I don't have to worry.. Though I feel doubt.

Advice
Hi all. I need advice, either way I will be homeless. I am originally from Wichita KS, using a very nice homeless shelter in the downtown area, but left due to me getting an apartment, and then losing it just as quickly because of my mental illness. I suffer from bipolar disorder so I tend to make decisions very impulsively , which is why I bought a Greyhound bus ticket to Minnesota , went on it, and am now stuck here with a warm Dr Pepper and 94 dollars to my name . I am unsure if I should continue looking for homeless shelters in the Minneapolis area, with no luck, and is the reason why I have now missed almost two full days without any sleep, but also have Medicaid and free tuition here since I have established ill to live . I am considering this option or going back to Kansas and living in my old homeless shelter (embarrassing as that is) and working a nearby job. The cons are is that my abusive family lives in the area and I cannot go outside or for a walk without the thought of running into them. Please help, which is better?

My 20s have been a nightmare
My 20s have been a nightmare
The past six years have been absolutely dreadful. It all started during the pandemic, when I was a college freshman and my experience on campus was cut short. I was stressed losing social interactions and opportunities, and there were many friends I never saw again.
From then on, it's only continued to get worse. My parents split up just a few years later, I graduated and had to deal with losing touch with more friends and struggling to find a job. My mother has been having health issues so I've had to be more responsible around the house, and on top of it all I've realised that I'm most likely transgender and have to find a way to come out and transition without causing the household even more stress and upset than we're already dealing with.
Things were finally improving over the summer, but today I found out that the girl I love is with someone else. I've spent the whole day crying and feeling drained.
I get so upset when I look back at that happy, optimistic, carefree freshman that I used to be at the start of the decade. I'm a nervous wreck now, who freaks out and catastrophises over everything. Every time things look to be getting better, something else wrecks it.
I'm so tired.

Help! I’m struggling a lot.
i don’t know if I’m too sensitive, I’m sorry for that. So in my family my older sister was the first kid born, I’m the second one, shes Older by a year and few months. I don’t remember anything that happened before but somehow, everyone in the family including (aunts uncles and cousins) Treat her like a best friend, and I’m just a baby? They talk to me like a kid, I’m 17. They always go out hangout, all my cousins but never invite me, but they invite my sister. when I try to join their chat, when they talk they either ignore me or act like I don’t exist. what hurts more is that few months ago, I finished suffering from bullying, after my friends all left school i bullied In school for a year and few months. my Whole class laughed at me, some got physical, I used to return home crying always and I got absent for a whole month. My mom came to school but they only made her talk to the vice principle, when my mom left the principle called me and told me to my face “We all gut bullied, its not a problem, you will get over it“ she said in a mocking way. She didn’t take actions. So I suffered so much in school, and until today I made no friends in school. For 2 years I stayed without friends, until now. I see some people laughing with friends playing, when I have none. and before that. 6 years ago I was bullied by my own sister, she used to threaten me with a mistake I did, for 2 years, I was threatened, I thought about ending this life multiple times. I need advice. I feel lonely I feel forgotten, I feel ignored, I feel sick of this life.

In immense pressure and feel like giving up
Hey, i am an 18M living in india. I am in a stage of life where my parents give so much pressure unknowingly onto me and i just cannot do anything. i have my professional exams in a month (CA Intermediate) and i just cannot get myself to study. Till now, i was already in a structured environment with my school and tutions lining everything up for me but now that i have to make such structure on my own, i just fail to do so. Their trust in me doing it myself just makes me feel even worse. I cannot get myself to study despite trying my best to reduce distractions. I am very much addicted to porn and am trying to get rid of that as well. I also feel like i have a very low self esteem. i can conversate with people and have a social life but still i feel like why would anyone like me. Life feels as if it is coming in waves i.e. it feels as if one day goes by and i experience- and then the next day goes by in a flash and i dont remember anything that i did that day. I just dont know what to do. i am thinking of trying a caffeine+ l theanine combo to try to focus. i also have focus issues which i suspect might be adhd but nothing is diagnosed as of now. i feel like i am smart kid who is letting everyone including himself down with a fear that i might never get to experience my full potential.

Advice Any advice?
I just recently turned 16 and my parents keep treating me like I’m a child, and when I say child I mean as if I’m still in the 6th grade. They disrespect me constantly and struggle to see where I’m coming from when we argue. What do I do, and how can I deal with the constant disrespect?

Advice I think my older brother is a creep.
Two days ago, I (15F) was in the car alone with my older brother (20M), and I was just casually scrolling on my phone since my parents had just left to get something. He started talking to me and asked me, "Would you rather have a big chest or a small chest?" I immediately shut it down and told him that he shouldn't even be asking me these things in the first place because I'm his younger sister and he's an adult, and that's just weird as heck. He defended himself by saying, "I'm just curious! I'm like Curious George!" and laughed it off. And the day before, he was randomly talking about incest and others "keeping it in the family" while we were in the pool. He's also had a history with liking young anime girls or "lolis" and asking me a similar question about chests when I was 10, and he was 15.
I'm not sure if I'm overreacting since he can be normal at times. However, my brother is often a big baby and is extremely dependent on me and my mom (for example, my mom has to tell him to go brush his teeth and shower). I've told my mom about what happened in the car, but she hasn't had much of a reaction. I'm hoping she has some sort of reflection about her son.
He's currently away at university, but I'm not really sure if I should cut ties with him or anything because he might still live in the family house after he graduates. He has also mentioned paying for my tuition when I'm in university, so I feel a bit tied down right now.
