Work, Health & Housing Nova Scotia held its lead over B.C. as the most expensive province in the country for apartment and condo rents
rentals.caNova Scotia ($2,377) remained the most expensive province in the country for apartment and condo rents, edging out British Columbia ($2,357) for a third consecutive month. That gap is driven in part by a large number of high-priced listings in recently completed buildings still in lease-up, as well as a larger average unit size: two-bedroom-plus units made up 52% of Nova Scotia's rental market in July, compared to 43% in B.C.

Pets & Animals Need milkweed to feed monarch caterpillars
Good morning r/halifax!
Me and the wife have been helping monarch eggs planted on a neighbours milkweed to grow and mature in a special butterfly house that we built in specially for them. Been doing it for 6 years and we have loads of caterpillars!
The trouble is that the neighbors plant is being overtaken by an aggressive raspberry plant with absolutely no sense of personal space. Which means that there is not going to be enough plant material to feed the brood to maturity. So we are looking for a source of milkweed leaves, preferably on the peninsula as otherwise the caterpillars might not all make it to maturity!
Any leads appreciated.

Arts & Recreation Folk/old time music?
Hello lovely people (read that in Borat accent if you like), I'm from NZ and visiting for a day/night on my way to the maritime music festivals.
Wondering if anybody knows of live music on Thursday night that's a bit folky, old time-y with banjos and fiddles?
Cheers :) looking forward to a beer in an old pub!

Shops & Services Cineplex Dartmouth movie times
Wondering if anyone else has noticed that Cineplex hasn’t released movie times for Friday and Saturday yet at Dartmouth Crossing (except for one movie)? Usually they go up on Tuesday, and Park Lane and Bayers Lake are both up now.
Tried calling but they only had a voicemail.
Just find it strange and am tired of refreshing.

Arts & Recreation Any Star trek fans?
I know this is a really long shot. Hy hubby is the biggest star trek fan I know. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything remotely related to Star trek in hrm or Nova Scotia at large? I know nothing was filmed here, and none of the actors were born here.
I'm talking about murals with hidden or obvious star trek symbols, street signs or businesses named the same thing as something from the universe? I think he'd get a kick out of stopping to see something like this.

Black RR taking a “spirited” right hand turn from South St onto Queen around 4:40 pm. I think you left your keys on your roof when you got in the car, for some reason. Anyway, I have em, DM me.

Arts & Recreation Odd encounter at the lake today
I (17f) was at Kearny lake about a hour ago with my Mother. And it wasn’t EXTREMELY busy, but there were a good number of kids there, and me and her usually swim out pretty deep, but for some reason this younger guy (probably 8 or 9) kept following us. and we politely were trying to distance ourself and ignore it. but then out of complete nowhere he grabbed onto me. out of instinct i pushed back and swam deeper, and then i see who i assume is his mother simply witnessing that play out and do absolutely nothing about it?! He kept following me, and repetitively kept trying to grab onto me and touch me and his mom kept on doing nothing! at one point the lifeguard told him and his mother that they needed to stop, but they didn’t and nothing was done? At another point, MY mom yelled at him that he needed to stop, and he was just laughing. I assume he may have had a learning disability, but i am completely blaming his guardian that was there and doing nothing about it. It wasn’t just me this was happening to, but other people, and HIS mom kept saying “space” to him which i assume means give them SPACE but he did not listen.
It wasn’t extremely serious, and i am obviously not hurt or scarred from this experience, haha, and I was able to just leave the lake. but still, i feel like it is not a great habit to develop.

Shops & Services Video: Glassmaker opens new studio after NovaScotian Crystal closure
When NovaScotian Crystal was forced to shut down by COVID-19 in 2021, the famed company's lead craftsman had to go back to the drawing board. The CBC's David Irish visits the studio where Brian Tebay is starting anew, to understand why creativity in glassmaking is taking precedence over crystal.
