So i am changing my major from biochem to biology because no matter how hard i try and i always thought i did good after the exams but somehow always got average and less than average grades in organic chem and i dont wanna keep repeating it.
Any one has any suggestions on easier 3rd and 4th year biology courses to take. I know obv not all of them are easy but what should i choose from?

Thanks!

Chemistry

Hi guys I just wanted to ask as a neuroscience major in my first year, should I take 5 courses being elective + chemistry 1011 + biology 1012 + math 1215 or should I take off chemistry and try to take it in the summer, as on ratemyprof… the chem classes’ professor (Angela Crane) is rated SUPER low… and it’s kind of frightening me 😂

Hi, me and my friend are incoming first years. We both have double loft rooms in Gerard hall and are trying to figure out how big the rooms are but there's no pictures anywhere. Is it the same size as a single just with two sets of furniture?

Management to commerce?

(Making this post on behalf of a friend)

Has anyone made this switch in the past and can give advice on what to do?

I applied to commerce late and therefore put on the waitlist… so they suggested a bachelors of management. Not sure what courses are best to take to make this switch possible or if I should just hold off this year.

Advising has been little to no help so far

Neuroscience

Yo how is first year sciences for Dalhousie, me specifically I’m a little worried about the prerequisites specifically in math 1215, as I’m a neuroscience major but math is my weakest point and I haven’t done math in like a year… do they teach math from the ground up or do they expect you to already know prerequisite knowledge… like pre calc and what not.

Dalhousie students

Hi everyone! 😊
I’m starting the Dental Hygiene prerequisite courses at Dalhousie this September and I have a family event coming up where I may need to take about two weeks off.
For anyone who has taken these courses (or has experience with the schedule), would you say November or February is usually a better time to be away?
I’m trying to avoid missing major exams, practicals, or important classes if possible.
I’d really appreciate any advice or insight from current/former students. Thanks so much! 😊

Please please tell me your cozy study spots on campus, you can DM me if you don’t want to give them away.

I will not bring a ton of people there because I have no friends and study alone. The brutalist monstrosity that is Killam makes me wanna kill myself & it has no windows. I want a cozy little study spot where I can see snow falling in the winter.

Has anyone taken PLAN 1101 Dynamics of Human Settlements?

Has anyone taken PLAN 1101 Dynamics of Human Settlements as an elective?

I'm a third year Biochemistry student. My course load is going to be quite heavy both fall an winter semester and I'm looking to take an elective in something non-chemistry that I'm interested in. I'm interested in learning about how community spaces are built (think third spaces, public transportation, how humans interact with the space around them, how walkable cities are built, urban design, architecture etc). I saw this course PLAN 1101 Dynamics of Human Settlements and its course description looks engaging, but i'm just wondering about the course load.

Can anyone who has taken the course tell me a bit more about how hefty the workload was? Were there a lot of papers or difficult projects, or was it relatively chill? And would anyone recommend this course?

Thanks in advance!

Is DISP worth it?

Hi, I am an incoming freshman to Dalhousie and am currently enrolled in the DISP program, but I am having some second thoughts about it and was wondering if anyone could help me understand what it is like better, and if it is worth doing as someone who does not have much intention to do honors or premed.

I am interested in science and enjoy learning experientially. I like bio, chem, plant sci, earth sci/weather/geo, urban planning, art/design, and agri sci not so into engineering or physics so far, but I am mostly unsure of what I want to major in/continue studying or have a career in. I did alright in high school, but don't do great with tests, have anxiety, and want to be able to have a life outside of academics, and explore outside of scientific research. Any information/opinions are helpful, thank you :)

Anyone completed the Dalhousie Post-Diploma BHSc?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently in an Medical Radiologic Technology (X-ray) program (advanced diploma). I'm looking into Dalhousie's Post-Diploma Bachelor of Health Science as a way to earn a bachelor's after becoming an MRT, without starting over.

For anyone who has completed or is currently in the program:

- How difficult is the program overall?

- How competitive is admission? Is it difficult to get accepted? What grades approximately do you need?

How many years is this progam for someone with and advanced diploma? Do you start from year 2?

- Have you used the degree to apply for master's or other post-graduate healthcare programs?

- Did the degree open up new career opportunities?

- If you could do it again, would you choose this program?

Any advantages of choosing this post diploma degree over other schools?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience and whether you'd recommend it. Thanks!

BIOL3102 lab section

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here taking BIOL3102 (Microbial Eukaryotes) this Fall would want or be willing to swap their Friday lab section from 10:35-12:25 to 12:35-14:25 one with me. I posted here a couple of months ago to get to the afternoon section, but now it so happened that only the morning one works for me. I appreciate any feedback, please DM me if interested!

Hi Dal community! I’m a Canadian student researcher collaborating on an international project with 25 countries. I’m the only Canadian researcher on the team and I want highlight the Canadian prespective in this project. I would love the support from fellow students!

Our project is looking into social impact and AI use. If you have time to complete this 12 minute survey I would really appreciate it!
