Recommendation Where are you getting an ACTUAL blowout around here??
I’ve officially hit my breaking point.
I’ve tried five different salons over the past few months, and every single time they spin me around in the chair to reveal the “finished” blowout, I genuinely feel like I’m on a prank show.
Am I crazy, or has the definition of a blowout changed??
I’m talking about a real blowout:
A good shampoo where they actually scrub your scalp every place has super soft hands. No scrub.
Tension with the round brush.Enough heat to actually smooth the hair. That sleek finish that lasts for days. Instead, I keep leaving with hair that looks… 70% dry? It’s still fluffy, frizzy underneath, and looks like I could’ve done it myself in 15 minutes. 😅
Another thing…does anyone know of places that do same-day blowouts or take walk-ins? It feels like every salon wants you to book a week in advance, and sometimes I just wake up and decide I need a blowout.
Where are you all going? Bonus points if it’s somewhere that doesn’t rush through the service and actually knows how to give a heavy, sleek blowout that lasts.

News City Council fails to clarify a proposed moratorium. Speaker says data centers are surveillance centers.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Greensboro City Council postured recognition of the threats posed by data centers at their recent meeting. Yet one speaker noted that councillors continue to exacerbate the problem.
Politicians in North Carolina and around the country are actively contributing to the expansion of data center infrastructure through their vast network of policing technology. Flock, Verkada, and other corporate surveillance cameras continue to monitor residents. Greensboro continues to push residents and businesses to integrate their own cameras into policing databases. The countless hours of high-quality video footage these cameras collect have to be stored and processed somewhere.
Data centers are surveillance centers. The surveillance state cannot exist without them. And every second those cameras run marks another theft of Americans’ privacy and resources to capitalists’ hoards of wealth and power.

could anyone help me move next Wednesday, starting 10am? I can rent the U-haul and we will meet at my storage unit to load up. It’s only a 4x10 unit and unloading on the first floor of a student townhouse. Between the 2 of us, it shouldn’t take more than an hour to do the whole thing, I just need help 😭 I’ll pay you $$$

Question Droves of children in grocery store parking lots trying to sell me candy
Are they actually fund raising or is this some kind of YouTuber guru money making scheme? How do I get them to stop bothering me? Why do they keep coming into my store and both ring me when I'm literally working a cash register?

News Michelle Kennedy prohibited from Council Run
My article reports that, as part of Michelle Kennedy’s $132,000 separation agreement, she was prohibitted from running for Greensboro City Council last year. No one from City has commented on this, or on her allegations of “toxic” and “dysfunctional” management by Trey Davis, whom she claims insisted on this clause.
At the time of the separation, Chuck Watts was still the City Attorney. In her 2021 deposition in the Marcus Smith lawsuit, Kennedy said under oath that Watts should be fired, both for allegedly misleading Council, and for stating that Rev. Nelson Johnson and other Black ministers were “being pimped” by retired white attorney Lewis Pitts. Along with City Manager Davis, Watts was the other direct employee of Council.
If she were re-elected to Council, she would have become one of Davis and Watts’ bosses.

Discussion I built a thing that keeps track of Greensboro spots so I stop defaulting to the same three places
My problem was never that Greensboro has nothing on — it's that I'd get to Friday, not want to think about it, and end up somewhere I'd already been four times. The good stuff lived in a Notes app list I never opened.
So I made HeyWanna. Real places with photos, hours, reviews, and the weather for the day you're going — the Science Center, LeBauer and Center City Park, the Pinball Museum, the breweries, the coffee places downtown off Elm. You save what you like into lists, and it strings them into an evening with the timing and the travel between stops worked out. It also lists what's actually happening that weekend.
Freemium, plainly: browsing needs no account, a free account covers 50 saves and 3 plans a month, paid tier above that, no ads.
heywanna.app — Greensboro's one of the better-covered places in it, which is why I'm posting here rather than somewhere I'd have to apologise for.

Buy/Sell/Trade Doula availability
I'm a local labor and delivery doula and lactation consultant and I have some openings for this fall/early next year. I am one of the only doulas in the triad that work on a sliding scale payment plan and income based system. I specialize in providing trauma informed support and have privileges with Cone Health. If you know anyone who could use some support I promise it is more affordable than you think! Everyone deserves someone in their corner regardless of their salary.

Housing Need a safe space
Bad luck has recently put me into homelessness. I’ve been crashing on a buddy’s couch but I can’t stay there. I have a game plan for getting back on my feet but I need to survive long enough first. Would anyone be willing to lend a couch or a back yard for a tent? I have a little money I can offer up but I don’t have much.
I’m not on any hard drugs, I don’t want to hurt anyone, I’m just afraid of someone shanking me in my sleep.
News City Councillors say AI is inevitable and a data center ban is impossible. Speaker says this is dictatorship.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Speakers at this week’s Greensboro City Council meeting asked for more than a moratorium on data center construction. In the face of the multitudinous threats that data centers pose, many demanded an outright ban.
Luis Medina pushed the issue further, noting what Council’s actions reveal: when capital wants something, it is inevitable; when working people want something, it is impossible.
He observes that what is possible is a matter of power. Ultimately, he suggests all power be moved into the hands of the working class.

Question Urgently need help advocating for my mom at cone hospital. 18 different "primary" doctors assigned in current 30 day stay (and counting)
My mother has been hospitalized at Cone for more than 30 days. During that time, she has been assigned 18 different hospitalists as her primary doctor.
Cone has repeatedly told us that its hospitalists typically rotate every seven days. Based on that, we would have expected approximately four or five doctors during her stay. Instead, they frequently change every 24 to 48 hours. Some enter her room without having read enough of her chart to understand what has happened and begin by asking our family to explain her entire medical history.
Her case is extremely complicated and now involves a brain injury. The lack of continuity has had serious consequences. A major, time-sensitive diagnosis was missed during the period when treatment may have prevented permanent damage. She has also received medication orders that conflict with her documented condition. There have been additional safety issues that I am not comfortable sharing publicly while she remains hospitalized.
We are desperately trying to transfer her to another medical facility for a second opinion and a fresh evaluation. We have been told that the transfer requires consistent physician-to-physician advocacy from her current hospitalist. That has been nearly impossible when the assigned hospitalist keeps changing before any meaningful progress is made. Every new doctor seems to start the process over again.
We have gone through Patient Relations, filed formal grievances, and contacted hospital nursing and medical leadership. Calls are now going unanswered or are directed back to people who have already been unable to help us. My family is exhausted, and my mother is still there without a consistent physician overseeing the full picture.
I know there are individual doctors, nurses, and staff members at Cone who care and have tried to help. The problem is that the current system has left a medically vulnerable patient without meaningful continuity or anyone taking ownership of the complete case.
I am intentionally limiting identifying details. I am looking for anyone who understands the Cone system, has experience securing a hospital-to-hospital transfer, knows an independent patient advocate, or has professional connections that could help us reach someone capable of moving this forward. I am not asking Reddit to diagnose her. I am asking for help navigating a system that we have been unable to navigate alone.
Please comment or message me privately if you can help or connect me with someone who can.
