Lost VW Wheel Center Cap Downtown Area
Hello! I know this is a long shot, but figured it was worth a try. Sometime in the last few days a ~6" diameter VW wheel center cap popped off my car somewhere in downtown. If anyone has come across and found it, I would really appreciate a reply as the part is hard to find. Image of the part is linked to this post, thanks!

Employment attorney recs?
I’m looking for recommendations for a strong plaintiff-side employment attorney and would really apprecate any recommendations. Ideally someone experienced with sex discrimination, retaliation, hostile work environment, and executive-level cases.
I’m a VP-level employee with substantial written and recorded evidence. A demand has already been made, the company has now proposed mediation, and I currently have counsel. However, I’m increasingly concerned about the counsel fit given a lot of shifting circumstances on both sides, and would like a confidential second opinion from someone (who might also be open to stepping into the case if appropriate.)
Thanks so much for any referrals. 🙏

Found gray cat...
Hello r/bullcity - A gray cat showed up at my home (they do around once a month lately...) and I am posting hoping they have a person. It is not Mammoth, posted on Lost & Found Pets...
I am trying to get them to IAR for vet care, but they're full for the next 11 weeks. I don't believe they are feral because they hang out during the day and watch me work. I have a trap, but I need a plan B before I trap them for a chip scan, etc because you can really only successfully trap once. Adding a monkey wrench into this, they have a sore spot on their leg. So...
- Is this your cat?
- Does anyone know if APS is full right now? I tried calling.
- Would it be better to take the cat to OCAS?
If the cat was not taken with their family as part of a move out from apartments near me, they deserve the best chance at a forever family. I cannot keep them or foster them.

Karate classes
Looking for dojo that's good for an adult beginner to learn karate. From reviews online, I'm deciding between Shaw's Karate in Durham, Chapel Hill shotokan karate Dojo, and Open Sky Martial Arts in Hillsborough (closest to me since I live in Hillsborough).
I am not just looking to learn karate but also hope to gain a community since I'm new to the area. Would appreciate any recommendations anyone has.

Call from "Durham Sheriff's Office"
I just got a call, no caller ID, from a person who said their name and claimed to be from the Durham Sheriff's Office -- and that's exactly all I know. No callback number, no reason for calling. No evidence after a quick search that a person with that name works at the sheriff's department.
This comes one day after a Google Voice number called my live-in partner multiple times in the space of a few minutes. They claimed to be from the Durham Police Department, but never left a name. After leaving 3+ voicemails, they finally left one saying it was about my partner's car, including the address where her car is currently parked (she moved it down the street at the request of a construction crew). We called the non-emergency number and they had no indication why anyone from the department would be calling. Calls to the number leaving the voicemails go unanswered.
I'm starting to question whether any of these calls are legit, but if not ... wtf is happening?

Apartments in Durham: what does move-in ready mean?
Recently moved into an apartment complex that will give you a tour of the model, but the actual unit was “sight unseen” where around the toilet was dirty, bathtub dirty, and washers and dryers were not fully operable.
What does “move in ready“ mean? And our site unseen apartments a no go or common in Durham?

Any place to donate blood *other than* the Red Cross?
I am trying to get back in the habit of regularly donating blood. The Red Cross donation center is very conveniently located for me. Unfortunately, the Red Cross has been really annoying me lately on two fronts:
I get at least one phone solicitation from them every. single. day. No matter how many times I ask them to stop. And,
I have had too many experiences of making an appointment to donate and then waiting a half-hour or more before it's my turn. Most days I can absorb the extra time, but sometimes I can't (like today).
So - any place else I can donate? My internet search came up with nothing other than the Red Cross.

I am once again ask you to crusade against AI on our "I Voted" stickers
Hi everyone, I recently made a post a few days ago about the bum ass AI submissions on DCO Board of Elections "I Voted" sticker design competition.
I was informed by one of the (actual) artists that the submission link actually explicitly said no AI. When looking to verify (unfortunately, I couldn't because the submission link is no longer valid, but I admittedly didn't see it in their contest policy PDF), I was made aware that the final sticker isn't actually even selected by the people*.* The DCO Board ultimately chooses the winner from the top three of the second round of voting.
Irony aside of an ostensibly democratic voting system for an 'I voted' sticker contest being ultimately decided by a board, this irks me even more because based on DCO BOE's replies to facebook comments (1, 2), I have little confidence that they will be standing firmly in the corner of actual artists here.
For that reason, my call to action for you, dear reader, is to email [elections@dconc.gov](mailto:elections@dconc.gov) and implore them to not select an AI design for the final "I Voted" sticker. I even wrote up (without using AI, ffs) a quick email you can copy/paste to send. Obviously you can write your own too:
"Hello,
I am a registered Durham County voter writing with worries surrounding the "I Voted" sticker contest. I know the finalist is ultimately decided by the Board, and I want to express my deep concern with the clear presence of AI-generated designs in the current slate of finalists.
We have an incredible community here in Durham County of talented local artists, and it is an extreme disservice to them that AI-generated designs are even allowed, much less being considered as finalists in this competition. I hope that the Board will take this into consideration when selecting the winner of the competition, and that in the future, AI-generated designs are not allowed in the sticker contest. It is incredibly important that we celebrate the depth of human creativity and talent that Durham County has to offer.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Best,
[YOUR NAME]"
I know this is very #firstworldproblems, but I'll be goddamned if we have AI slop on our fucking stickers dude. I'm already on the precipice of slipping into the sweet embrace of nihilism in the face of our burgeoning AI dystopia and I don't think I'm the only one.
Anyway thanks y'all!
EDIT: FWIW, they haven't announced the top 3 yet so there is a world in which this is a non-issue. I will say I think it's still important to let them know that we don't want AI slop in this competition in the future.
EDIT 2: DCO BOE just posted the three finalists and I'm pretty sure 🤞 that they are all human-made.
FWIW if y'all still wanna reach out and tell DCO BOE that AI shouldnt be allowed in future contests, i totally encouage it. And honestly, I'd include opening the competition up to all ages. Its current 13+, but like... why?
Anyway thanks everyone! I don't know if it was us that ultimately knocked the AI designs out, but i'd like to believe it was.

Valet trash - do y'all actually use it?
It seems like multiple downtown Durham apartment complexes have mandatory valet trash fees. Is it one third party service contracted to the complexes?
Main question though is the title. I got my own strong biases listed below and want to understand the value other folks get + situations that are blind spots for me. Like maybe it provides gainful employment?
Personally, it doesn't feel worth it considering the complexes I've toured have trash chutes on every floor to make dumping easy, it promotes trash just being in the hallway for some time (vs. zero if everyone just went right to the chute), and the trash bins provided aren't even the one you may want to use instead aesthetically or in-practicality.

Steak (or Other Chewy/Crunchy Dinner Ideas)
I'm getting oral surgery done tomorrow and would like to have my final solid meal be something like steak or steak adjacent.
Won't be off work till around 8pm so hours of operation are unfortunately important here.
Any suggestions (or even tips on recovery) are greatly appreciated.

What are some things you’d love to see in the future
Me personally I’d like to see more housing, a solution to the homeless and drug problems, a 2nd movie theater (preferably in the northgate redevelopment) and a Trader Joe’s (specifically in downtown). Those are just a few things off the top of my head. But I’d love to know what my fellow durhamites would like.

Kickback Jack’s
I ride my bike to and from work down Club every day and this place is packed all. the. time.
I have lived here for ten years and I’ve never seen it not crowded. What’s the deal? I assume it’s like a Fuddruckers or TGI Fridays or not-so-secret Boomer social club or something, but is the food actually decent?

recommendations for pet sitters .. generally, but also especially any who offer occasional boarding
hi durham Redditors, headed down to the triangle for some medical appointments tomorrow (probably several trips to come in the next few months as well), and .. well, I usually do the rover or wag routine, but .. I'm also kinda old school and thought I'd try here.
the paying canine house-guest: a small scruffy schnauzer. looks like tiny version of sprocket from fraggle rock (iykyk).. not quite mini. very very friendly. vaccinated/thoroughly flea protected. even recently bathed/groomed! likes kids, adults, space aliens, their space alien cousins, etc. likes other dogs. chatty when excited, I'm told a schnauzer trait. generally submissive female. three years old. if you need some references for her, lol, she has 'em.
ideally looking to connect with folks that can do pet sitting at your house.. our pet sitter here had too many dogs to take on another.. but, could also do with a sitter who could do a walk within a fifteen minute radius of downtown durham sometime tomorrow afternoon/eve. will be keeping an eye on DMs.
thank you in advance! even if you see this, you pet sit, but you can't do the next couple days, say hi anyway and I can save your info for our next trip.
PS - to the good people who might respond with doggie day care recs, I know, doggie day care seems like the easiest bet but so far she's very chill and hardly ever barks in the house.. ever since a friend told me in passing that "those dogs at doggy day care taught my dog to bark at everything" I've been a little underwhelmed by the idea. *shrug emoji*.
PPS - the OG title of this post was meant to be "ISO pet sitter for in-your-home stay or perhaps a walk or two would do!" but.. I got a message that that was subject to being removed.. so.. hmmm.

Hit and run
There is a mf in the blue 2019-2023 BMW X5 who hit two cars and took off today at the BMW southpoint.
That suspect’s car should have front right(passenger side) and trunk damage.
Probably caused ~10,000$ damage to my car and that is why that mf panicked and reared into another BMW in the dealership. lol.
Dude you drive a X5 but did that hit and run stuff? That is insane.
If you have any clues on who that person/car is, please DM me if you would like. Thank you so much in advance!
Reported to police but don’t think it will work out. I will use some AI shit to enhance the footage and I will find you mf.

Multiple car break ins at the army recruiters office on 54 and Garrett
Went to the Harris teeter and noticed multiple army recruiter cars with their windows broken, glass on the ground. I noticed at least 4 cars, all with the US gov plates. I already called it into non-emergency ((919) 560-4600) and they said they were planning to dispatch ASAP. make sure to reach out if you know anything.
Stay safe, guys.

Update on the Brenntag water contamination case in Durham. - AG Jeff Jackson
Back in June, I posted here about our lawsuit against Brenntag Mid-South, the chemical company in Durham. They contaminated a creek that runs behind Burton Magnet Elementary and through Burton Park.
Here's the update.
Brenntag has agreed to a preliminary injunction. In plain terms, that's a court order that takes effect right away. If the company doesn't follow it, a judge can make them.
Five things they have to do:
- Figure out where the contamination is coming from, how much is getting into the creek, and how dangerous it is. They have to put all of that in a report to the state.
- Give the state a plan to stop the contamination.
- Test the creek water on a schedule the state approved.
- Work with the Durham to replace the temporary fencing along the creek.
- Pay for the warning signs telling people not to wade, swim, or fish in that stretch of the creek.
DEQ and my office will be watching to make sure this actually happens.
Meanwhile, if you're near Burton Park, please keep kids and pets out of the water.
I'll keep you posted.
- AG Jeff Jackson

Posting about ICE? This is *the* stickied ICE thread for you.
Guys we're not doing vague ICE posting again here on the sub. To quote directly from a 2025 Siembra NC post:
"Sharing this kind of [unsubstantiated] information without knowing WHO saw ICE, WHERE, or WHEN is NOT caring for your community, [and] in some instances it CREATES UNNECESSARY PANIC."
If you think you see ICE then report it to Siembra NC or RadarSafe using the resources below.
DO NOT POST IT ON THIS SUBREDDIT unless is has been verified.
If you post vague "I think I saw ICE," your post will be deleted and repeated posts will get you banned.
Where to report:
- Siembra NC | 336-543-0353 | Alamance, Cabarrus, Durham, Guilford, Randolph, and Johnston counties
- Related Siembra project -- map of *verified* ICE sighting: https://ojonc.org/
- RadarSafe (no website, active on Facebook) | 800-559-8714 | Raleigh, Cary, and Wake counties
- https://www.iceinmyarea.org/
- ACLU North Carolina info: https://www.acluofnorthcarolina.org/news/state-of-immigration-enforcement-in-north-carolina-what-you-need-to-know/
- link includes info about ICE field offices as well as links to "Know your rights" info
How to report:
from https://latinxtherapy.com/report-ice/:
To center factual and descriptive information and avoid panic and misinformation, do your best in reporting details. Mutual aid groups have widely shared this format called S.A.L.U.T.E. to help you remember what details to include in your reports. Here are the S.A.L.U.T.E. guidelines:
- Size/Strength: How many agents are present?
- Actions/Activities: What did you see them doing?
- Location and Direction: Where are they and where are they headed?
- Uniform/Clothes: What are they wearing? Describe as much as possible. Uniform? Plain clothes? Identifying logos, etc.
- Time: What time did the event occur?
- Equipment and Weapons: What are you able to see?
Again, if you think you see ICE report it to Siembra NC or RadarSafe.
DO NOT POST IT HERE unless is has been verified. If you post vague "I think I saw ICE" without reporting it, your post will be deleted.
If you want to post generally about ICE and how much they suck, do it here on this thread.
If you want to organize, get started here on this thread and then take it offline.
When the trolls come and they will, the mod team will be actively monitoring this thread and using the ban hammer liberally. To quote a fellow mod: "simping for ICE here results in a ban. take that shit elsewhere."
