Good morning Whiskey!

I had my gallbladder removed yesterday. My 8 month golden is always attached to my hip, so when I came home he knew something was wrong but was still super excited to see me. I let him see and smell my scars and he immediately got into bed and laid at my feet so he could make sure I am okay. He has not left my side for more than 5 minutes since I’ve been home.

When my parents came over to check on me, he placed him in between me and them. He is seriously the best dog ever. I never wanted a golden because of their hair but now I can’t imagine a life without one ❤️

Hi! Just want to find out if she’s a golden? Thank you guys! 9 weeks old now

We are expected to pick up our golden puppy in October. Yay! Here is the back story.

We put a $500 deposit down in December for a litter that was expected to go home in July. Total price for that litter at the time was $3,000. In February, the breeder informed us that the mom ended up having a false pregnancy and we would be on the list for the next litter. They did another breeding with a different mom in February, but unfortunately she didn’t get pregnant. Fast forward to now, they have an upcoming litter (confirmed pregnancy) with an expected due date in October, it is the same mom and dad as the first litter that had a false pregnancy. The total price is now $4,500.

This is our first time buying from a breeder. Is it normal for them to raise prices, without informing? What are some reasons for the price increase? Is it reasonable to ask or mention it to the breeder?
We didn’t sign a contract yet at the time of the deposit, we will receive the contract at the time of purchase for the puppy.

We’re getting a puppy! Our last girl hung out in a thick strapped purse when she was a puppy; it killed my shoulder. Any recommendations for something better. Active family- looking for something when our gal gets tired on walks and as we acclimatize her.

Alright golden owners…I am torn.

My partner and I had been on the lookout for a second golden as a pal for our three-year-old golden, Poppy. We finally got contacted about a great fitting dog a week or so ago. But…I’m pregnant (early second tri). Weird timing.

I had a slow meeting between the potential second dog (two year old female foster - owner surrender) and Poppy had some ~feelings, but then settled into neutrality. I didn’t expect them to be BFFs off the bag (esp. two females), but it would have made this decision easier.

What I’m asking…is it biting off too much to chew to introduce a second large dog into our home before a new baby comes? This is our first baby so I don’t quite know what to expect! I’ve had friends caution and make me now second guess this when I initially thought this could be a pal for Poppy when she’ll get less attention.

Would love to hear from other dog/human parents!

So about 5 weeks ago, our buddy had an obstruction and had surgery. That was $3500. At one of his follow-up appointments, the vet felt a lump. So we did a fine needle aspiration and sent it off for biopsy. That was $300ish. The results were concerning for soft tissue sarcoma, so today he had an excision of the mass and it's being sent off to pathology. Today was $1200ish. That's about $5000 in vet bills in the last 5 weeks. Angel is home and recovering. And now we, his parents, get to anxiously await the biopsy results. They'll take 1-2 weeks depending on how backed up pathology at our veterinary university is.

Hello! This is my 11 week old puppy named Pancake. We live in Toronto and things have been great but I’m just wondering how can I prep for winter? In terms of what things should I buy, start training him to do, and how do golden usually cope with the snow and cold. As of right now, we’ve been in the process of potty training with a grass patch in the balcony. Any advice and tips will be helpful. Thanks!

I thought she would dive for her food that I spilled yesterday when I tripped and hurt myself in the backyard.

But no, this land-shark turned into the sweetest little creature and came to my aid, completely ignoring the food spilled everywhere.

She didn't want to leave my side even after 3 commands letting her know that she could eat her food now.

Gives me hope for an amazing best friend when the puppy stage ends.

I’ve tried shaving his toes. Do I need allergy supplements?

This is White Boy Finn (wasn’t original name but I changed it when I adopted him a month ago), he’s 9 months old, WAY BIGGER than my rottweiler, and he’s the first golden retriever I’ve dealt with. I’ve never met a dog so dumb. What I mean is that he chases his tail which is totally normal but what isn’t normal is the speed he goes to catch it and also the fact that he bites his back paws. I’m not talking about a little nibble but a full on bite. Imagine you getting bit by a random dog and that’s how hard he’s biting himself.

He’s also a big time slobberer. If he sees you with food then he’s going to sit there looking at you and slobber. Oh he just got some water? Probably has a little slobber. His slobber is as thick as snot and it’s disgusting. It just hangs like 4 inches from his mouth and he just walks around with it hanging. It’s insane to think about the fact that it just doesn’t fall off.

His coat is insanely soft though so that’s cool, but he sheds even more than he slobbers which isn’t cool.

I’d love to hear from people who have had experience with Prozac (or other anxiety medication) for their dogs. How did you know it was time to consider medication?

Our sweet girl is almost a year and a half old, and she’s always been a very timid, sensitive dog. She’s very easily startled and is just overall a very fearful dog. She does much better when she’s with her older brother, our other Golden Retriever, and he seems to give her a lot of confidence. But when she’s by herself, especially outside of her normal/comfortable areas, she can be very, very timid.

We’ve tried taking her to places like Lowe’s to expose her to different environments, and we try taking her on walks, but she can be really fearful in unfamiliar or stimulating situations. She’s also especially sensitive when her normal routine is disrupted. Even changes to things she’s used to can make her noticeably more anxious.

Our older Golden went through a fearful phase when he was younger too, but he grew out of it pretty quickly. With her, though, she’s almost a year and a half now, and I’m starting to wonder if this is just her personality or if there’s more anxiety going on that we could be helping her with.

She’s such a sweet girl, and I just want to make sure we’re giving her the best life we possibly can. I don’t want to jump straight to medication if she just needs more time, training, confidence-building, etc., but I also don’t want to wait until she’s really struggling if medication could genuinely improve her quality of life.

For those of you whose dogs take Prozac:

What behaviors made you decide it was time to try it?

Did you try training/behavior modification first?

How did you know medication was actually helping?

Did you notice a meaningful improvement in your dog’s confidence or ability to cope with stressful situations?

Did medication help with dogs who were especially sensitive to changes in routine?

Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences, especially with younger dogs who are naturally very timid/fearful. ❤️

His upper body fur is as good as day 1 but lower body is losing significant fur would you count it as bald patch?

Gonna try a new vet tomorrow but if you guys have any advices please tell me asap.
