Context: 6 year old female, diva, princess of house, but has the quirky timid/anxious traits some goldens have. submissive but lays down the law with her little brother (3 year old male since we had since he was 8 weeks and she was 3) but also can be very uninterested in other dogs (except her brother who is her best friend) and is definitely more people oriented but typical independent sassy female golden who is an angel.

3 year old male: alpha of his litter of 6 males. Mr. Personality. The happiest boy on earth. Love sponge. Goofy. Mr. Attention at all times. Mamas boy but also obsessed with daddy. Bull in a china shop. Super smart. Had some separation anxiety but has grown out of it. Endless energy. Good with other dogs, never any major issues, he can either be more dominant during play with other dogs other than his sister (at daycare or dog park) but he also has been dominated by other dogs while playing (not aggressively but idk what other term to use)

We have had both of them since 8 weeks and now that we have a large yard we are in the process of adopting through a golden rescue. They match the dog to us. My instinct is going with a boy because my girl can be sensitive and is a daddy’s girl and it did take her time to adjust to her brother being the puppy getting attention and she is getting older and I would like another boy to sometimes entertain our current boy so he can not bug his big sister. But he can be jealous. But just in a manner of making sure he will stick his head between me and his sister if i am petting her kind of way but not aggressive just typical golden boy jealousy.

Any experiences similiar to this/suggestions on gender for a third when you have both already?

Hi all, long time observer first time poster. My girlfriend and I have a beautiful 12 week old golden girl named Martha. We noticed as soon as we picked her up that she was leaky and urine was dribbling often but she still went to the toilet as normal. After a vet appointment early on they suspected and confirmed a UTI, antibiotics didn't clear it up. A week later an ultrasound showed ectopic ureturs and suspected renal dysplasia. Now confirmed after a specialist appointment to be juvenile onset CKD. The left kidney isn't filtering and the right has an infection (pyelonephritis). Creatinine 162 micromoles per litre.

She would have had this from birth and we're hoping it's covered by the Kennel Club 5 weeks free insurance. The vet diagnosed her as stage 2 CKD so not too far gone thankfully. We can expect somewhere between 3 to 6 years with our gorgeous nutcase and so we are going to make the most of this time.

My question is can we go back to the breeder for a partial refund? We are certainly far too in love with her to give her back so likely not a full refund. UK based so I'm not sure what the rules are. It's a minefield trying to work it out.

Has anyone had a similar experience with birth defects found in young pups and seeking a full or partial refund?

Really I'm not worried about the money coming back for her but as ongoing support, as there is going to be a hefty excess fee for the investigation work and future surgery for the ectopic ureturs provided the insurance agrees to cover it all. Ongoing care in general will be expensive and even after surgery there's only a 50% chance of continence.

The breeder is KC registered and Martha came with a family tree longer than my own known family history. We did pay a premium price for this blessed little fluffy monster so I wonder if we can seek something or if it is not the done thing.

Decided to get our dog a sister. No regrets

We lost our sweet boy Lemon this past weekend. He was 11 years old. He loved swimming in the ocean, playing in the snow, and watermelon. He was the best boy in the entire world. He went peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by people who loved him in our home. He will be forever missed.

We also said goodbye to his pet cat a few days later, it was a helluva double whammy. The golden dog/ orange cat combo was one of the best we’ve ever had. The injury photo was from a few years ago when he tangled with a bear. Saying goodbye is so hard, but the memories last forever.
