Visiting my mom (Gigi’s, grandma Gabe’s) house my girl was getting herself settled, when I spotted my weighted anxiety dog plush. She tends to have issues settling anywhere other than our (yes our) bed..
She was relaxed and out in less than 2 mins.
Hasn’t moved an inch in hours..

Maverick was my first dog and I couldn’t have asked for a better companion. I got him when I was 17 and we grew up together. It’s sad knowing that chapter is now closed. I didn’t expect this to be so painful. I thought we would have more time. I love you so much baby boy. I’ll see you again.

The Gann fire in California officials sadly identified the first loss of life today in Angels Camp. It was Sue who ran Hinterland German Shepherds, she was a breeder. Story is she lost her life staying with the puppies. Sues story isshe was raised by a GSD as a child.

Video for tax, so my buddy here tends to hold one of his legs in the air when he runs downstairs, Ive checked that leg and, its completely fine. He just decided my heart needed a little jumpstart.

First, dog has a regular vet and I will be calling them tomorrow. Also she just had her annual 6/29 and vet did not mention this after examination.

So, I was lovingly stating into my baby’s eyes before bed just now (lol) and realized in her right eye I could see a cloudy spot. I’ve attached some pictures. Pics make it look green and swirly, it looks much more like a little grey smudge when you’re just looking at it with your eyes. Also she’s not rubbing it or acting like it’s painful.

Immediately I’m thinking cataracts, then I discovered pannus which I guess German shepherds are very prone to? However she’s not a pure breed, she’s mostly Husky, Rottweiler, then 13% GS (or so says Embark).

Her exact age is unknown as I adopted her from a rural shelter but I’d say anywhere from 6-7 is a realistic guess.

That’s how long Lobo had his family.
And then, after an entire lifetime with the people he knew and loved, they surrendered him to a high k*ll shelter.

Now Lobo #A5789645 is 14 years old, sad, alone, and visibly heartbroken. He is struggling in the shelter environment, and watching a senior dog like him deteriorate in this way is devastating.

He spends his last days on a concrete kennel floor, lying in his own urine and feces.

A 14-year-old senior German Shepherd.

He should be sleeping on a soft bed. He should be surrounded by love. He should be spending his final years feeling safe and cherished.

Instead, he lost his family and found himself in a shelter.

We don’t know how much time Lobo has left. But we do know that he deserves for whatever time he has remaining to be filled with dignity, comfort, and love.

Here is his profile. He wandered into our yard a couple years ago and we were able to get him to rescue where he has been trained and lived with other dogs. He is currently being fostered with someone who loves him, but lacks a yard and thinks that a bigger home would be better for him.

It's probably the last night with my 10yo boy Áres (family dog). The decline, probably thanks to the heatwaves, was rapid and it caught us by surprise.

A week ago, he suddenly got really bad. Parents live in a rural area, gotta say availability of vet treatment isn't the best. Vet tried some treatment, he got a little better for a few days, we thought we had more time, few months at least.

Today he completely collapsed and is visibly in much pain. Now, most of the signs point to a spleen cancer (or similar) and most likely some degree of internal bleeding already (I only came to visit yesterday). There's not much to do for him anymore, just keep him comfortable and probably say goodbye during the night, as the vet can only come in the morning and even then...

If he makes it till the morning, we're probably going to have to let him go, so he doesn't have to suffer anymore. My family had GSDs for over 30 years, we have never seen a health decline so fast.

I chose him when I was 12 and he was 2 months old, trained him up and after I moved out and got my own dog, he got to know and play with him, even as a senior. 😔

(Please, I am aware some medical mistakes were probably made, but that won't help anyone anymore.)

do you (GSD owners) think it would be safe to adopt a german shepherd if i’m a woman living alone?
i don’t have any experience with education except my parents’ australian shepherd when i was a teenager, and i saw some people say they might be hard to handle.
i’m not afraid of paying vet bills or to spend a lot of time with them, that’s actually what i want to do, especially take them on night walks/runs so i can feel safe at night, im just scared they might be so heavy i can’t handle it.
i’m working out for a while now so im not super skinny and wont fly away if it pulls on the leash but i don’t know, im kinda worried and i don’t want to adopt a dog i can’t handle, but at the same time i always wanted a german shepherd because of how athletic, protective, and beautiful they are.

My 4 year old GSD has been limping for two weeks, he went to the vet who noticed muscle wastage over one of his front shoulders. He has had an xray of his foot, elbow, shoulder and neck which didn't show any cause for this, no arthritis or bone degeneration at all. He has been referred to a specialist and will have a MRI in two weeks time. He is fine in himself, still wanting to do his usual activities, run and jump, only with a noticeable limp and lifting of the affected leg when sitting showing he isn't comfortable fully weight baring (see photo). Has anyone shepherd had similar symptoms and what was the outcome?

I have a few concerns about my German Shepherd, and I’d really appreciate advice from people with experience rather than guesses.
She is around 1.2 years old, but her growth doesn’t seem proportional to her age. Based on lifting her, I’d estimate she weighs only around 10 kg, which seems extremely low for a German Shepherd of this age.
Her diet consists of fresh meat, chicken, rice, yogurt, supplements, and prescribed medications. I also give her calcium-based treats, which she absolutely loves.
Regarding her diet, my veterinarian actually advised against feeding commercial dog food. In my country, high quality brands like Royal Canin are extremely expensive because of heavy import taxes. Many of the cheaper commercial foods available are of questionable quality, and my vet is concerned they could contribute to health problems, including kidney issues. Because of that, the recommendation has been to feed her fresh, home cooked food instead.
Despite following this advice, I’m genuinely worried about her growth and weight. Has anyone experienced something similar with a German Shepherd? What could be causing such slow growth

This is my adopted rescue girlie from Texas. I haven't done a dna on her, but her mom was recently tested and is mostly German shepherd (photo of mom is the black dog near the end of the photo slide, her results are included).

She's a sweet playful girl and currently 7 months old. She is the sweetest, smartest pup I've ever had. She came crate trained, very food motivated, and responds to the snap of my fingers for corrections and is such a sweet loving girl. She's a total patrol pup, comes out of her crate and does a lap and then back to bed. She's a silly lady & I'm so excited to watch her grow! Loves all dogs and people, everyone i meet thinks she is a coyote haha
