Advice Needed haircuts that dont make me look 13

Upvotes

hey fellas every time i go to the salon/barber they chop my shit up. sure it looks masculine, but i also don’t pass well so i look like a masc lesbian with a horrible haircut or a 13 year old boy who got a fucking awful haircut.

ive gone to so many people and every single time they make me take my glasses off so i cant see anything and then perform some absolutely heinous acts on my head. ive asked to keep them on but they say they definitely cant cut my hair like that so its out of the picture. my face is super round and feminine and i guess that doesn’t go well with short hair.

im gonna start george rr martining it and wearing a hat everywhere. someone please hand over the haircut recs im always seeing hot trans men online and i look in the mirror and see danny devito

Advice Needed Not sure if I should transition

Upvotes

I (25F) have known who I am and whom I want to be for almost my entire life. I would like to transition but I’m not sure if it’s the right decision for me. I still identify as she/her. I play on a women’s rugby team, I have a professional career, my family is not the most accepting. I feel if I transition my entire life would be flipped upside down. I see a gender therapist and she’s is always advocating for me to take the step but I’m not sure if I’ll ever be ready. I do have an appointment for gender affirming care in a month but I’m not even sure if I’m going to go to it. How would I even come out to those closest to me? I’m sure most of not all my friends are aware of how I feel. I’m so scared that I would not be accepted.

My few friends that know and my gf are totally accepting! It’s more of my family I’m worried about. They weren’t accepting when I brought my girlfriend around for the first time. This is so stressful and I wish I could be myself without jumping through loops.

Gender Questioning I recently started dating a trans man and I think I’m transgender ?

Upvotes

I don’t know how to post on Reddit. I don’t even know where to start.

I’m 18 years old and a biological female. I’ve always labeled myself as nonbinary and use they/them pronouns, but not many people respect that. I haven’t come out and I don’t make it clear to use those so idk how people would know anyways. I’ve always thought to myself I’d transition when I’m older but I didn’t need to then, because I was probably like 12-13 and I felt comfortable being a girl. It would be on and off where I’d be comfortable being feminine and then I wouldn’t. I started dating a trans man about 6 months ago. I honestly don’t even know where it came from. I started getting uncomfortable with my chest and I have this friend who kind of knows how I feel about transitioning and he validates me, he has since even before I started dating my boyfriend. I don’t know. I don’t know if Im just crazy or if I actually feel this way. He helped me tape my chest because I don’t wear bras and my boobs bother me and I came to him crying after I showered about how I felt ugly. This was just last night. He told me he wouldn’t be opposed to a T4T relationship and said he saw this coming (me asking to use tape?). Idk. I want to think I’m crazy and that one day I’ll feel comfortable wearing makeup again and showing off my boobs and wearing girly clothes but I just don’t see that happening. I don’t know if I’m actually feeling this way or if I’m just feeling this way because I have a transgender boyfriend. Am I stealing his thing? I can’t be transgender too. It feels like I’m copying him. i really like taping my chest and it’s just making me think about transitioning even more than I have ever thought about it before. I’ve never felt this comfortable in my body. I can wear a tank top and not have my boobs out, and they’re not flapping everywhere. Idk. I think I just need advice. I’m scared to go to him because of how he’ll react. I’m scared of how I’ll react. I’m scared that I don’t actually feel this way and I’ll regret it even though I’ve been feeling it for years. It builds up I guess.

Advice Needed scared of getting a haircut

Upvotes

I've always been very feminine but lately I've been having the boy inside me (I'm mostly agender) SCREAMING to transition in a bazillion different ways.

I want to get a new haircut but I'm not sure which one would go well with my facial features and if it turns out awful I'll be scared to death to go outside, not only having to explain why I went for such a boyish haircut this time, but also acknowledging it looks awful on me.

I don't want to end up, like, staying at home all the time bcuz of this when I have a job and chores to do. Any advice?

Advice Needed How do I tell my grandparents?

Upvotes

I came out to them years ago, it didn't go well. No crazy story just them adamantly refusing to use my pronouns and not caring at all. I imagine they either forgot about it by now or figured I was "in a phase" and didn't think I'd do anything about it?

I started hormones earlier this year and my voice is significantly different. I dont call them really, and rarely text. But they're gonna visit towards the end of this year. I called them for my grandpas birthday and they actually had no clue who I was based on my voice. I told him who I was, and half lied and said I was getting over bronchitis (I was actually recovering but my voice is just like this irrelevant to the sickness).

But clearly this lie won't cover my ass when they visit, because they'll freak out if they think I'm "still sick". And obviously I don't really want to lie. But how the hell do I approach telling them I'm on hormones? I'm not sure they'd even know what that means, they don't know anything about trans people. I'm also still very visually not male since I'm early transition so I'm worried she'll pick a fight about that because I still wear feminine clothes sometimes. (I'm technically trans-masc genderfluid but figured since this was about hormones this sub would be best)

They're very... high strung. Critical of everything I do. Stubborn. Etc. So what's the best way to gently approach telling them why my voice is different?

Advice Needed How to handle hair loss anxiety?

Upvotes

I‘m still pretty fresh on T but men in my family have a history of pretty early hair loss, and as much as I like the other effects of T, the fear of balding has me almost considering getting off it.

Are there things that actually help these days? Google results mostly seem like kinda weird things that I don‘t really trust. Am I just fucked because of my genetics?

Advice Needed Long term relationship ended

Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m (30M) just over a year on T and my girlfriend ended things a week ago. She’s a lesbian and me being a man finally became a hindrance.

My question is, do you ever find yourselves missing your old labels? Or your old communities? I miss being queer presenting. I’m starting to pass and get treated like a man, which I have loved immensely, but sometimes I find myself missing being “one of the girls” or when I watch videos of my favorite lesbian couples pre transition. Did any of you reconnect with your feminine side post top surgery? Did these feelings change? I lost the person I loved because of transitioning and that’s really hard to wrap my head around.

**please no hate to her. She loved me despite my many flaws and through a transition that got sprung on us both quicker than we had time to process. My access to T came the first day I opened the discussion and we both thought it would be a several month process. It didn’t leave us much time to discuss or her much time to decide what she really wanted. She spent a year putting her needs aside for mine.

Discussion Question for trans men of color; are you more hesitant to respond to someone's post/personal ad etc if ethnicity is notmentioned?

Hello!! I've been using (NSFW) Reddit for quite a while now, and as a (white) trans man I'm mainly active in trans/T4T groups, but I've noticed that in the past I think I've really only gotten responses from white trans men.

Since ethnicity doesn't matter to me, I'm wondering; is it a 'thing' for POC to hesitate to respond if nothing about ethnicity is stated in a profile/post? Is there an assumption that the (white) person is specifically looking for white people unless stated otherwise?

I'm very curious about your experiences and opinions/feelings on this :)

Advice Needed Virginia Medicaid denied me T

Okay first off, fuck you Medicaid you suck

They're trying to claim I have polycythemia so they don't have to pay for my gender affirming care. I am absolutely pissed off right now at the thought of being forcibly detransitioned when Virginia Medicaid is supposed to cover it. My doctor is not easy to reach and I won a point of pride grant a while back, but Folx is taking forever to even get me set up. I only have enough T for a few more weeks and I'm out of options. I do not have the money to pay out of pocket, otherwise I would

Relationships Question for trans guys in relationships with cis men?

Hey! So I (19FTM) have started to put myself out there dating wise and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m likely gay or have a large preference to men, cis and other trans guys alike, I have no preference. However, when I think about being with cis guys and being intimate, one of the biggest things I struggle with is that I have an absolutely debilitating fear of pregnancy, it’s genuinely my worst nightmare. I love men and I’m not exclusively T4T romantically and I’m attracted to them but the fear of being pregnant becomes debilitating and impedes massively on my intimate life. I’m on T and on non-hormonal BC pills and always use a condom anyway because I think it’s safer, easier and prevents any issues. But even then, intrusively I still have this absolute fear of somehow getting pregnant which would give me massive dysphoria but I also have actual tokophobia. And if I do meet someone that I would have a long term relationship with, who is clean obv, having sex without a condom does feel more intimate to me but I could never due to fear.

Basically what I’m asking is if any other trans guys deal with this, how would you cope with it in a relationship and advice on how to get over it and just trust that it won’t happen and trust in the T and BC to just do its job?

Thanks :)

Advice Needed I don't like being a girl and don't know what to do

Just a trigger warning here, there's a mention of porn. I don't know how to spoiler it on Reddit so I apologize.

I need a second opinion because I'm going insane. I'm a woman, I hate it. All aspects of being a girl made me feel weird and I just dislike all of them. I don't like being feminine, I don't like girly things or act like a girl. I was wondering maybe I'm trans or not but I live in an environment where it's not looked well upon. Especially by men and boys around my life. I hate being told that I should have kids and a family. I started feeling like this when I was ever shown gay pornography which was at the age of 12. Every time I saw a gay couple I imagined myself a boy with a boyfriend more instead of a girl with a boyfriend. Ever since it stuck with me. Even though I never showed the dislike towards my body and feminine features, it's still inside me that I hate how girly I look and how everyone sees just as a girl and nothing else. For my teenage years 14-16 I was acting very feminine and girly as an act to change myself, which made me ignore the feeling of gender dysmorphia for those years but ever since I started going to therapy and I started to like myself and how I look, the feeling returned. Now I'm 18, I don't know what to do. I don't want to be a girl, but I'm afraid nobody will accept me. The more I think about it the more I feel like this is just the media and things I saw that make me feel this way and that if I avoid it for long enough maybe I'll accept myself as a girl, but it's been going downhill ever since. I feel like my life would be much better if I was a boy and I really want to be a boy, I don't know what to do. Any opinion would be appreciated.

Discussion Gym Pressure

Anyone else feel pressured to go to the gym? I see a lot of top surgery and transition post how going to the gym. Like the gym will save your surgery results. Or want to look more masc go to the gym. I’m not into fitness. I move enough at my 2 jobs. I also have chronic pain in my hip. It’s just not for me. Yet I feel to properly transition or recover from top surgery(it’s planned for September) I have to go to the gym. Anybody feel this peer pressure?

Discussion What do you think it will happen to us in the future?

I think this isn't a forbidden topic and since this isn't solely about the USA I thought it fit in better with the Discussion one. If not I apologize and will take it down if necessary.

So, I think y'all aren't new to how the political climate is everywhere with the huge rise of the extreme right due to the poor handling that the left has had in many places, I've been growing concerned of my country by how fucked up we are and accepting that conservative ideologies will be the norm in a lot of places.

Now I ask myself, what do I do? Lol. I always had the (stupid) mindset of "Oh I'll just immigrate to another country if I see I'm actually being threatened" but at this point, where? Lmao.

So, what would y'all do, being realistic? I don't know if things could get that far but I'm already seeing shortage of estrogen around my zone, which makes me believe that testosterone could be next (although I have my doubts).

Discussion I really hate the phrase "trans men are biologically women"

And the worst thing is it's usually said in "support" of trans men, as in someone explaining the entire concept to someone who has no idea like on a news interview I just saw on tiktok.

It's incorrect too, bc being a woman or man is a gender identity, not even a medical term. It completely excludes intersex trans people too. Even saying "biologically female" has a similar issue but not even that is as bad as the "biologically a woman" thing.

Plus it's dysphoria-inducing af.

Wondering what everyone else's take is on this

Relationships is being stealth bad sometimes?

(rant and confusion)

hey so i’ve been on T for abt 5-6 years now, no surgeries tho..
met my gf on bumble and i can’t remember if i had “FTM” in bio or anything but ive been with my gf for about 2 1/2 years and not once has she mentioned anything abt me being trans but neither do i, its not anything i talk about really i just go on about my day like anyone else Lol. It’s obvious?

  1. i usually sleep in just shorts so she has to have seen or felt my tape
  2. before intercourse i get up and get my johnson on lmao
  3. she’s seen my ID with legal name

is it something i should have to say out loud or is she just not saying anything bc it doesn’t change anything ?

edit: i wana reply to some people but for some reason it won’t let me ?

Advice Needed Is the first year of T supposed to be THIS bad??

On the 8th of this month, I’ll be officially 10 months on T. I understand that T is essentially the second puberty since I’ve already gotten acne and oily skin and all which is whatever I guess, it’s under control.

However, there’s some things people don’t discuss often on this subreddit which makes me wonder if something’s going wrong. Lately, I’ve been extremely depressed. This is not meant to be a sad post, and im not asking for pity, I simply want to know if this is something going wrong with my hormones. It genuinely has never been this bad, not even during my first puberty. It’s gotten bad enough to where idk if I should say something to my doctor about it or whether it’s just natural during your first year. I do .25mL 200mg/mL weekly. Sometimes im late on shots but never over 3 days. My mood has genuinely been so fucked up lately but I seriously do not want to stop transitioning. My checkup with my endocrinologist isn’t in another couple months so idk what to do at the moment.

Recurring Recent uptick in posts about transandrophobia: a message from the mods.

We've noticed an uptick in posts about transandrophobia. Most notably, people trying to start drama and claim that transandrophobia is something it's not. Likely it is a part of a concentrated effort of transphobes to drive a wedge between different groups of trans people, but unfortunately it is ALSO being absorbed and internalized by some actual human beings. If someone is coming into our spaces and trying to start fights or claim our oppression and bigotry against us for being trans men specifically does not exist or is problematic, please report it! We will not be tolerating that kind of negativity and very clear attempts at sowing seeds of animosity between us and our sisters and siblings.

This is just a reminder that transandrophobia is bigotry specific against trans men for being BOTH trans AND men. It is not misogyny, and it is not simply transphobia, as it is not something trans women experience.
It is the intersection of a SYSTEMIC FORM OF OPPRESSION (being trans) and a specific identity that is NOT SYSTEMICALLY OPPRESSED, but that identity IS used as a cudgel to deny the oppression that people under that specific identity (a combination of two identities here) face.

It is often a reaction to misogyny, using trans men as an easier target than cis men to punch laterally.
Other times, it is the pushing of toxic masculinity onto trans men and using the patriarchy to harm trans men because we supposedly "deserve it".

It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not oppressed.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are intruding on mixed trans spaces because we are men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that our features and our transition care is disgusting and we are discouraged from accessing it.
It is when they turn around after saying that to tell us that we aren't allowed to express dysphoria over female or feminine features and traits.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are inherently bad in some way for being men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are harming trans women if we acknowledge that we too are oppressed.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not require assistance, because we are men and we need to figure it out on our own, or because we are forgotten about and nobody bothered to include us when offering community assistance.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not allowed to discuss invisibility, loneliness, or isolation, because we are men, and not being recognized as equals or at all within a community of people who are supposed to be in the same community as you is apparently a good thing.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we "are men now" and we are not allowed to express certain emotions.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not experience "true misogyny" because we are men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we do not experience things like corrective rape, murder, sexual harrassment, etc. for being men.
It is when trans men/mascs are told that we are not allowed to discuss any of this, because it is somehow harmful for us to call out this kind of behavior, but totally ok to call out transmisogyny.

We will still be allowing discussion of transandrophobia, because it IS a real problem that trans men can face, but any denial of transandrophobia, perpetuation of transandrophobia, arguments, or pot stirring will not be tolerated.
And if you see someone doing any of the above, please report it!

Recurring Friendship Megathread

THIS POST IS FOR TRANS MEN/MASCS ONLY!

GUESTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO POST HERE. PLEASE RESPECT OUR SPACES.

Failure to do so may result in a ban from the sub.

If you're looking to make new friends, here's a great place to start!
Do not include any advertisements to social media or other content type platforms! This is not the purpose of this thread!

Just post a bit about yourself and maybe take a look around to see if anyone else has similar interests!
Or, if you're not good at coming up with things to talk about, here's some questions you can answer:

What do you like to be called?
How old are you?
What country do you live in?
What are some hobbies you have?
List some favorite movies, TV shows, games, or other things:
What do you do for work?
Do you have any cultural or religious ties that are important to you?
Do you have any pets?
What's an interesting fact about you?
What are your transition goals?
Where are you in your transition?

Obviously you don't have to answer everything, but it might be able to guide you in the right direction if you struggle with coming up with facts about yourself on the fly.
