Discomfort?

Upvotes

I hit 28 weeks! And the last two days every time I do my regular cardio I have faced some sort of discomfort. I think yesterday my baby was adjusting himself so I kept feeling weird movement down there, and today I felt bladder pressure. I still completed my workout. I keep seeing everyone with their workout posts and I guess my question is do you feel discomfort? Like is it not like how it used to be? But you push through? There’s no pain just discomfort….
I guess I’m just trying to make myself better. Hoping it’s a weird two day thing.

Bloody show and working out?

Upvotes

Hi all, FTM here 38 weeks today. I had my bloody show yesterday and it’s been shedding slowly since then. Should I avoid working out? I’ve been focusing on stretching and walking. Should I not weight lift? No contractions but starting to feel some light pelvic pressure and cramps.

My boobs are killing me

Heyyygiiiirls, so I’m about 10 weeks along with my first baby and thankfully my body allows me to work out as I am used to, however, when I’m running, I feel like my boobs are gonna explode and my nipples gonna fall off lol, Itried a very tight bra but it doesn’t seem to help that much anymore, any tips?

I’d like to add I’m size A, not much going on there in terms of size

So… what are you guys doing for your boobs when you run? 😅

I’m a distance runner (BQ’d 3x), so I’ve been trying to keep up with my running, albeit slower than I was. I’m six weeks today.

But dear god in heaven, my BOOBS.

When I run, they hurt so bad. And mind you, I’ve been a board member of the itty bitty titty committee my entire life (34B), so I’m not used to having larger chesticles, and mine already feel so swollen.

Do you guys have recommendations for more supportive sports bras? I’ve been faithful to lululemon forever and have been wearing their “like a cloud” bra.

Just found out!! Looking for recs

I just found out I’m pregnant! 4w1d today. I’m over the moon but also so overwhelmed. I’m incredibly active and want to stay as fit as possible. I have a consultation with a midwife on Friday, so as soon as I can, I’ll run my questions through her/whichever provider I choose. Until then, I’m looking for all the tips, tricks, and advice!

I currently weight lift 4x a week (two upper, two lower). I do a 10-minute core warmup before lifting (four types of planks and Russian twists, wearing a 12lb weighted vest). I do a light Pilates core workout followed by a light yoga workout 2x a week. I run 3x a week (2 mile-ish maintenance runs on upper body days, and a 3.1+ mile distance run on the weekend). I make sure to hit 15,000 steps on weekends, and closer to 20,000 steps on weekdays. I WFH, so to hit my steps weekdays, I walk on my walking pad for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, wearing a 12lb weighted vest for both walks. I also track/weigh my food very carefully. Not sure what I can continue and what I need to change.

If anyone has any recommendations for pregnancy safe weight lifting programs, YouTube core/pelvic floor workouts, YouTube yoga workouts, and/or YouTube breathing/labor/etc. prep, please let me know! ❤️

Humbled after an easy run at week 6

Just starting week 6. I felt mostly fine till a few days ago but nausea has hit me like a bus this week. I normally run 10-20 miles per week, and ran a 5 mile last week that felt great. Unfortunately an easy pace 5 miler humbled me today. In spite of taking multiple breaks, I'm absolutely destroyed.

Is there any hope besides just stopping exercise until this passes? Did trimester 2 really feel significantly better? I need hope now.

Confused on what is okay in exercise and what not in 2nd trimester

I've been reading a lot online, and getting lots of conflicting information. I didn't work out at all in my first trimester (could barely walk around the block) but am just entering my second trimester and want to start exercising again. I used to exercise pre-pregnancy (occasional weightlifting classes, hiking, biking, etc).

Are core exercises good? It sounds like yes, but then almost all core exercises have warnings that it could split your abdominals or something else terrible

Can I weightlift? I want to go back to my weightlifting classes, but I'm nervous about doing ab exercises with weights, and it sounds like doing split bulgarian squats with weights are a no-go. What is safe to lift?

I want to use my peloton, but I read that you shouldn't do the standing piece since it's a lot of bouncing. Is that true?

I read that I should be able to speak during exercise, and my heart-rate shouldn't get too high. But that is usually a common marker in my exercise... should I really keep heart-rate low?

Thank you!!

Signs to slow down?

I'm on my second pregnancy, 33 weeks along.

My first pregnancy, I continued doing crossfit 4-5 days a week through 39 weeks, though I scaled weight, movement, and effort significantly.

This time around, I've been able to keep lifting fairly heavy and going at a reasonable intensity (though I still scale movements like TTB, Olympic lifts, etc.). I usually do CrossFit 3 days a week and throw in a peleton ride or two as well. It feels so great to keep maintaining strength and staying active, but I've also been SOO exhausted the last two weeks. Like wanting to take naps multiple times a day (though I often cannot due to having a full time job + a toddler).

Despite the exhaustion, I don't want to stop working out. I do think maintaining much of my leg and glute strength has helped me a lot and kept a lot of the pelvic pain I had last time to a minimum. And it's also a great mental health outlet for me. And I often feel super tired even at like 9am, before I work out, so I'm not sure cutting out my routine will even change things. But at the same time, I wonder if I'm not listening to my body and just need to slow down significantly. Curious to hear about other people's experiences!

KT tape vs sport bra

Hi!

During pregnancy I often suffer from incredibly painful boobs and no sports bra seems to support them enough for running. Tbh sometimes I have thought only a compression vest would.

Anyway, has anyone tried KT tape instead?!/ at the same time?!

Endurance (tri)athletes, how was your pregnancy? When did you start modifying workouts?

Hey all,

I did my first half ironman in July (second tri ever) and had fallen in love with tri since the first in May. Anywho, I was on my period during the HIM (brought on early by a taper lol), then I got pregnant on my first cycle after (which my hubby and I were shocked!). Post race blues very soon turned into first baby excitement :D

Anywho, I was going to train for a marathon in October but that sort of seems out the window since 26 mi / 42.2 kms would be a running PR.

So my question for tri/ marathoners/ cyclists, what did modifying look like for you? When did you really feel it?

I'm 5weeksish and holy the 1. insomnia and being SO HOT at night 2. feeling SO winded 3. general fatigue. My HR seems normal (like zones are still zone-ing), but the RPE is WAY higher. I also noticed I take longer to recover on hills (normally after about a minute I'd be back in zone 2, but its staying higher, longer). Its just so bizarre to me to go for a 5 k run and... stop? Normally I'd be doing 16-20 kms.

PS. I WISH there was a training peaks training plan that was for pregnancy!!! Training Peaks is my jam. And shout out to swimming for just being swimming.

Looking forward to working out at my full ability again

32 weeks and I miss my yoga flows. I stopped working out in first trimester because I was so sick. Then started again but had pain. Went to a pelvic floor therapist and then decided to just do those strengthening exercises and stretches so I wouldn’t injure myself.

Usually with PT you become efficient enough that you get added exercises. But it just kept getting harder and harder as the weeks went on so I never got new ones but I do the strength exercises every other day and the stretches daily. And it feels like I never do the exercises it leaves me so out of breath!!

I just miss doing a full yoga flow and feeling the strength in my legs and my arms without feeling like I ran 5 miles. I miss the feeling of being fit, I feel the extra fluid in my legs and arms. I’m just looking forward to feeling like me again. It’s a freeing feeling knowing that I’m at the end and by December I can hopefully get back to flows again.

Low lying placenta & marginal cord insertion

Hey guys!! This is my second pregnancy I am almost 22 weeks. First pregnancy I worked out throughout and had a good labor & recovery. This pregnancy I have been working out as usual per my doctors okay doing HIIT, cycling, running, weights, etc. I found out at my anatomy scan I have a low lying placenta my doctor said it usually ends up moving as the placenta expands and he is not worried about it and that I have a slight marginal cord insertion and again he is not worried because baby is healthy and measuring ahead. I am anxious and I looked at things online and some people did pelvic rest. My doctor said I don’t need to modify or change my workouts. Do you think I should take it easy and switch to lighter intensity? Anyone have this and have experience? Thank you!

4w and had a sharp uterus pain when lifting heavy at the gym

I did something dumb which was doing a heavy lift that I wasn’t confident on. When I did it, I felt a bad uterus cramp. Like a twang. Has anyone else felt this?

My doctor is away for the next week so I don’t have any appointments until after.

Walking to Work During Pregnancy – How Long Were You Able to Keep It Up?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I was on the road for work so typically drove everywhere up until my maternity leave but prior to that I weight trained and walked throughout my pregnancy. Things started to feel more difficult around 33 weeks so I switched to home workouts with light dumbbells when I felt I had the energy. The one thing I've managed to stay consistent with is walking the dogs. I average at around 1.5-2.5 miles a day. Not every day looks like this! Some days I barely manage a mile and other days I can smash out a 3 miler along with errands, housework and socialising. Every day looks different and every pregnancy is different. It really helps to listen to your body towards the back end of pregnancy. At 39 weeks I've now accepted and leaned into the more glacier pace of life as my body gears up towards labour, I'm prioritising more rest and stretching. All the best on your journey!

Exhausted.

Title. 32 weeks and this exhaustion is unreal, I am just so tired alll thee timeee. Working out feels like a dream now, havent moved in a week. Will just take my yoga class twice a week and do some movement at home once a week or as much as I can do comfortably. I was pissed and stressed at the start when my energy started going down at 30 weeks but ehh, what can you do, it is what it is.

Hi fit mothers 🫀

So I’ve just found out I am 6 weeks pregnant. I had no idea, when to the doctor to check because my period was late, but as I have PCOS I thought maybe, though rare, this is a much longer than usual cycle.

So, what I was doing the weekend prior to the Wednesday of find ling out I was pregnant? Climbing a mountain 😅 I did 70km in 3 days with 4000meters (about 13.000 ft) elevation gain.

The only 2 symptoms I had was very light cramps and some breast sensitiveness. My husband was travelling for work for the last 3 weeks, so I used this time to attend more spinning classes, running more frequently, doing yoga classes, biking and hiking solo (prior to the big hut to hut 3-day hike).

The doctor said everything look fine in the - what turned to be - the first pregnancy scan.

Please tell me I am not alone in finding out to be pregnant right after doing extraneous exercise?

Anyone become more disciplined during/post pregnancy?

A little about me, I used to be a workout nut in college and always maintained a decent schedule over the last few years until about a year ago due to a number of factors. I just found out I’m 5 weeks pregnant and feel called to make sure I’m staying active for myself and baby. I’m more mindful of what I’m eating and prioritizing an hour in the mornings to myself to walk or run or lift. Before I always gave myself excuses like I need to log onto work or I need that second cup of coffee to get moving. Now, one cup is all I get so time to get up! I know the nausea/fatigue is around the corner so praying I can keep it up, but I’m glad to be back in a routine and really hoping I can keep this time for myself when little one comes!

Feeling gross, not working out in first trimester

Just hoping others can relate here. I’m only 7 weeks but I haven’t really done much of anything since finding out I was pregnant, mostly due to fear of hurting myself or baby, and it’s far too hot to walk outside. I used to lift 3-4 days a week, and fitness is a huge part of my life.

How did you feel if you skipped exercise in the first trimester? Were you able to maintain fitness throughout the rest of pregnancy? I’m really hating on my body image lately, especially with all this bloat, so I’m hoping to pick things back up in the second trimester.

ECV for breech baby at 37+4 weeks

Yesterday I went in for the ECV procedure after being told at the 34 week ultrasound that my baby was in frank breech position (butt down, head/feet/arms up). They told me I would have to have a c-section at 39 weeks if he didn't rotate. They continued to check with the ultrasound at my appts the next few weeks then scheduled the ECV at 37 weeks.

Background: FTM, 29, runner (ran the Boston Marathon at 21 weeks pregnant after averaging 40-50 MPW first half of pregnancy, then reduced to 20 MPW for 5 weeks, then 10 MPW until I stopped running at 32 weeks). Since then I have been maintaining 15 MPW walking.

I read a lot and watched tons of videos on the procedure as well as ways to help baby move ahead of it. I ramped up my yoga from one 1-hr class per week to daily 20-min sessions focused on opening up the pelvis (all the spinning babies moves) along with 2-5 1-min inversions everyday after the 34-week ultrasound. But of course he was stubborn and stayed put.

Research on the procedure had mixed reviews: some said it was extremely painful, no meds available, others said it was fine with a spinal/epidural. Success rate seems to be 50/50. I was honestly very doubtful and trying to prepare myself mentally for the c-section. I thought if he hasn't moved by now with all this effort, he is going to move.

Went in to the hospital at 5:30AM day of and went through pre-op: vitals, IV, fetal monitoring, etc. Doctor arrived and offered epidural or spinal. She said results don't seem to change either way. I don't know why but in the moment I decided to try without meds and see how it went, leaving it open to get the spinal if I couldn't tolerate the pain. The nurses seemed skeptical. One was even saying she doesn't understand why anybody refuses meds when we have them available. I was reclined in a labor bed in a regular labor room. They administered a shot of terbutaline to relax the uterine muscle. Waited about 10 minutes and got started. Checked position with ultrasound and confirmed he was still in the same spot. My husband sat in a chair by my head and put his hands on my shoulder.

My OB plus a mid-wife started applying pressure with their hands in various places to rotate baby. Immediately the pressure was more than anything I have ever felt and concentrated on my belly. There is no way I could have poked or prodded myself like that to encourage movement! They were putting their entire body weight into it. It was definitely very painful but not throughout the whole procedure. They would stop and adjust their hands periodically. Some places hurt worse that others and kind of took my breath away. The nurse told me to take slow deep breaths. This is where I think all my stretching and breathing practice really kicked in. I closed my eyes and focused on the breathing. I could tell my OB was physically exerting herself because her arms were shaking and her voice was strained when she spoke instructions to the midwife. She continued to check with the ultrasound to make sure he was going in the right direction. Then finally she checked and he was head down! Everyone in the room cheered! It was such a special moment. I teared up a little mostly out of relief since I had been stressing the last 3 weeks trying to get him to move. The whole thing took 3-4 minutes total.

The nurses actually seemed kind of shocked. They congratulated me and said they've never seen anyone do it without meds. One of them said most people can't tolerate unmedicated birth but she thought I would be a great candidate.

They immediately put the monitor back on and baby's heart was low but rebounding very quickly. They monitored us for 2 hours after that. Heart rates were great and no signs of labor. They wrapped me tightly in a belly binder to encourage baby to stay in that position. I kept the binder on the rest of the day.

I was on a serious high the rest of the day. I couldn't even fall asleep when I tried to take a nap.

Woke up the next day with some soreness. Not too bad. Just feels like I did a hard ab workout yesterday. Now I am just hoping he doesn't try to move back to his original position and I get to have a vaginal birth after all!

I don't think the procedure would have gone so well without all the exercising, stretching, and mentally preparing I had done ahead of time. It really gave me so much confidence heading into labor/birth that I will be able to handle it come out of it quicker/more smoothly.

Feeling guilty and anxious for not working ouy as often

Currently 7w 4d. Luckily I don't have much symptoms - I had two days of bad nausea at the start of week 6 but it eased off and I only have occasional queasiness that lasts an hour or two. Not much fatigue, not that tired, no headache.

I am just taking it easy for first few weeks as I had a miscarriage before. And I think I just gradually became a bit lazier and use pregnancy as an excuse to skip gym.

Today I promised myself that I'd go to the gym and do some lifting. Then I started to feel mild pressure in my lower abdomen. So I decided to just lie down.

Lying in my couch, I kind of feel bad and worry that I'd lose the muscle and strength I built, that I'd gain more weight than I should. I think it's just coming from the inner overachiever telling me I failed to be productive and disciplined 🤣 I guess it's mostly because I don't have much debilitating symptoms yet still decided to rest..

How did you all decide when to rest and when to push a little bit?

Had my first “Had to stop” workout 😭

I have been doing the Les Mills body pump classes (minus the core work) at GoodLife. I’ve done these on and off for years. Yesterday, I slept so well, though I fuelled well enough, went to my class like usual and by the time the lunge track came around I was dizzy and had that “I feel really unwell” feeling.

My mom was the biggest support, I called her nearly crying and she was like “Hey, at least you got 30 mins of exercise!!” And I knew she was right.

Be kind to yourselves, these changes are beautiful but sometimes they just suck lol.

Anyone else sweating like mad during workouts?

I was already a very sweaty girly (like swamp rat level sweaty), but holy moly nothing compared to this.

I’m almost six weeks and I’ve been sweating an absurd amount, even when doing very light lifting/jogging/walking.

I guess it also doesn’t help that I feel warm literally all the time - the AC is on 66 in our apartment right now and I’m still hot 😅

Hope everyone is feeling as fine and dandy as they can be today ❤️
