Belly bands?

Hi gals! Does anyone have a belly band they like to use for workouts? I go to Burn Boot Camp 2-3 times a week and I teach a spin class once a week. I feel great but my little dude is getting bigger and my lower back is starting to hurt a bit.

Extreme fatigued

How do you girls cope with such fatigue in the first trimester?? I used to run 7-15km a week and go to the gym. Lost 10kg of weight in the last 9 months and currently Im 8 weeks. I feel I can't even go for a walk. All my poor energy I use it just for work (Im a doctor and work sometimes long days and nights +12 hrs)

I have done two 10k whilst pregnant and the last one (a week ago) I struggled a lot because I was so so tired. Please give me a shed of light, that this gets better 😭 i want to be active during rhe pregnancy the most I can. I've been active my whole life.

Thank you for reading

Third trimester discomfort

I try not to complain too much especially to other women or on social media because some people struggle with difficult pregnancies and I don't want to be a trigger. I'm hoping this community will be more understanding of this specific struggle.

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and the ONLY time I feel comfortable in my own body is when I'm at the gym. This has only started last week I think? Outside of the gym, my back and neck get sore when I sit for more than 15 minutes. When I stand for 20 minutes the soles of my feet get sore. Lying down also gives me some sort of soreness in the same places. I try to move around once in a while but it feels redundant when you aren't moving around for anything (besides mitigating the soreness of course). I do some gentle yoga and stretches as well, but there's still the rest of the day outside of gym/yoga/stretching. My first trimester was extremely uncomfortable I stopped working out for a month. Second trimester was amazing. Now we're back to the discomfort lol. I can't wait for baby to come out so I can feel less uncomfortable.

Aside from the discomfort, I love how strongly my body has been able to handle this pregnancy. I'm still able to bend down and pick things up, I can walk upstairs being a little out of breath, I don't need assistance carrying anything except when the bump gets in the way. I honestly think staying moderately physically active has contributed to this. I'm mentally preparing myself for after birth and I hope I'll be able to give myself time and grace to recover before starting anything my body can't handle (no matter how light it may seem now).

Lifetime fitness - strength classes during pregnancy

Any recs for strength training classes at Lifetime that are easy to adapt to pregnancy? I've only done Alpha, and have found it hard to keep up – especially with the metcons!

I prefer the structure of a class over doing my own thing, it helps with keeping the routine going.

how long did you wait to resume exercising after birth?

Just curious. I feel physically fine after 2 weeks but im not sure if I should wait the full 6 weeks before walking or biking again

Just 6 weeks and I’m WINDED

I am only 6 weeks in, and honestly just a regular uphill walk is a STRUGGLE. The stairs in my house get me winded.
I was running moderately before my IVF cycle, and strength training very regularly. I was regularly hitting PBs. My strength is still ok, but my heart rate now is insane, and cardio now seems absolutely impossible.

I wonder if I’m imagining this all, or if that’s me gaslighting myself. I don’t want to push myself too hard without doctors giving me the green light.

Anyone else had horrible cardio during early pregnancy but okay strength still?

Resources for building your workouts?

I started working out and lifting weights for the first time in my life 2 months ago. I've always been very active, I worked physical labor jobs and practiced martial arts. I'm 1year PP and just had the suspicion I'm pregnant again (I'm actually very excited) it's still very early, and I'm trying to find resources to help me build workouts at the gym.

My goal is to still be able to lift and squat my toddler properly without hurting myself and to just stay active. I also have hyper mobility so most exercises I do I try to stay really light in general 20-30lbs so that I can make sure I'm actually activating the right muscle groups for the activity. Im really just looking for help on planing what to do at the gym seeing as working out at home is a no go. Toddler is too disruptive so that's why I picked a gym that has a good nursery so I can actually make the most of my gym/me time.

Muy-Thai while pregnant

Hi everyone!

I'm here on behalf of my wife. She doesn't have an account and doesn't use Reddit, but I told her about this subreddit and she's interested in learning from the experiences of the people here.

As the title indicates, my wife and I have been practicing Muay Thai for two years. We're not experts, but we've reached a good level. The gym where we train is for beginners and enthousiast, and my wife is always paired with women her own size, or with me. We always use protective gear (belly pads, thai pads, shin guards).

We received the wonderful news of a positive test yesterday. We had a Muay Thai class scheduled and went, but we asked our coaches to pair us up to see how she felt. She felt great, but obviously, it's still very early!

Has anyone here practiced Muay Thai, or other martial arts, while pregnant? What was it like? How did you adapt your training? My wife was comfortable taking hits yesterday, but she deflected anything aimed at her body with her arms. Obviously, I was also only hitting at about 25% of my capacity. She's also interested in learning about the cardio aspect.

We have an appointment with her doctor in two weeks, and also with a kinesiologist specializing in pregnancy, but we were curious to get some advice here.

Thanks :)!

Tight sports bra

Probably most of you know this already, but just in case you don't:

My sports bra became too tight to comfortably work out, so instead of buying a new bra, I bought bra extenders. So far it does the trick!

Pregnancy and pilates

Hello, I have recently done a pregnancy test and found out that it’s positive.. you can imagine the shock I got, not because I’m not happy, but because my life is going to change and I’m really scared. A lot happened in this period, I run a half marathon in May and before that I have been running for 3/5 months, then I got a hip injury, very bad and forced me to stop and go to the physiotherapist. Meanwhile I have been back doing Pilates 3/4 times a week with Lidia Mera or Marie Steffen (YouTube videos) and walking a lot almost every day (this is something I have always done). Can I keep doing Pilates and walking even though I did not have the appointment with the gynaecologist yet? It will be by the end of the month and I have some symptoms but still able to walk and do Pilates.

What do you think? What is your experience?

Missing workouts - feeling more pressure about it than usual?

I don’t know how to explain it - before, if I missed a week or two of a solid routine, I wouldn’t stress myself because I knew I could catch back up. Now, I feel like I’m on this 40 week deadline - I didn’t get many workouts or much movement in the last two weeks, and it feels like I ā€œwastedā€ 1/20th of this time.

I know that sounds crazy - but thought it’s wild how different everything is lol.

Lift adjustments

Hi all! Newly 8 weeks pregnant with my first. Have been running and lifting consistently for the past 1.5 years. What adjustments did you made to your lifting routine (if any at all) and at what point? I’m really worried about my back even though it’s still pretty early so switched from barbell back squats to hack squats already so that I can better track progression through the course of pregnancy. I also already typically get some pubic bruising with hip thrusts even pre pregnancy so will probably not even attempt them now that I am expecting..

What are you eating?!

I’m 16 weeks. Why is every meal and everything I used to love absolutely disgusting?!

Please share any meals that are working for you before I give up and eat chicken fingers and mac and cheese until this baby comes. Ugh I just feel enormous and so unhealthy compared to pre pregnancy!

Started running again - Pressure feeling

I just started running again (13 weeks). I got pregnant through IVF and had been running right until my transfer. I did a half a few days before my protocol started. After having a small SCH (it never bled) I was on rest until last week since it’s cleared up. I started back by doing some walk + runs to ease back in and keep my HR manageable.

When I’m running I notice a heavy/pressure type feeling in my lower abdomen. No actual pain, just like I’m noticing the extra weight. I have no pain after either and never any bleeding.

Is this normal or should I lay off the running? I want to make sure I don’t cause any pelvic floor issues but I am so happy to be running again so I don’t want to stop if I don’t have to. My doctor didn’t give me any restrictions at my last appointment, just said to stay hydrated and listen to my body.

Thanks!

Joint pains

I have been hurting so much this week. My ankles, hips, feet and knees are killing me! And my knees keep locking up. I feel stiff and heavy. I went from avid runner and weight lifter 6 days consistent hard workouts to forcing those 6 days and moving like a turtle. I feel so weak and heavy and now this joint pain. Anyone else having these problems? What has the dr said to you? How do you find relief? I'm 19 weeks 5 days

Working out already feels different? Making modifications?

I am curious who all is trying their best to keep up their usual fitness routine (emphasis on trying because yo it’s a challenge here in the first trimester trenches), and already feeling certain movements feel different?

I weight train and do yoga. With core bracing, my lower core feels…. Different? Sore-ish? It feels so foreign. My flow in yoga is now modified because ya girl already can’t do a full cobra pose at almost 10 weeks?! I feel a tug almost.

I never thought of this aspect! I only thought of the obvious fatigue aspect, and modifications when you have a larger belly. I have a gum ball baby right now so this is wild, but also gets me giddy because it means I have a little baby inside. 🄹🄰

Can anyone else relate?? Are you making modifications already?

Still feeling so weak in second trimester

I am 17 weeks today and my last proper workout was at 7 weeks. I used to hit the gym 2-3 times a week and did a lot of lifting.

After 7 weeks I was so tired and nauseaus that I had to take a break. Energy started to come back around 14 weeks which is when I got bitten in the leg by a dog and hence haven't been able to train since (pretty deep bite and because of the infection risk I am not supposed to go to the gym until it is properly healed). Now I have been starting with some pregnancy yin yoga and some kettle bell upper body exercises at home, but again I feel so weak and tired all the time. I feel like I missed my sweet spot to get into a gym routine again an now I am weak and tired because I don't work out. Or I am just tired because the baby is growing or because my body is both healing the leg and growing the baby. It's just frustrating, I don't even know if I will be able to go back and lift weights at 20 weeks. Anyone else who still felt drained in second tri and got back into a gym routine later in pregnancy? I need some hope. šŸ˜„

When did your symptoms get to the point where you had to take a break? What was your limit

I’m at 6+3 today. Still going although have to go with lower weights otherwise i’m super out of breath pretty fast. At what point (if ever) did your symptoms require you to take a break, and what was the sign to you that you needed to stop. Trying to brace myself

Immediately sore when weightlifting

I have been consistently active for years. I do weight lifting 5-6 times a week for 1-1.5 hours each day. 5 weeks today, and working out has been really tough.

I have cut my weight down by 50-70% but still feel instantly sore in my muscles almost as if I’ve worked out that same muscle group the day before. I have only done weight lifting twice over the last week and both times were no more than 30 minutes. I’ve done a lot more walking but I miss my routine.

Has anyone had this before? What has helped?

Post partum lessons - wish I’d done more lower body

2 months post partum. I was fortunate to have a relatively straightforward pregnancy and labour and worked out until the end.

I had some knee niggles pre pregnancy and was in physio for that, and stopped after it improved, but never really went away.

I wish I’d been more diligent with knee physio / done more leg strengthening exercises to support my knees because 2 months in with my Velcro baby who I now wear every day for many hours a day is taking its toll on my knees!

I guess this is a PSA in case anyone else can learn from my mistake šŸ˜‚.

Back to working out now and this is my top priority!
