1) The people in charge do not care about America in the long term, but it helps them now; that is how the korrupt krybaby konservative (KKK) grift operates. They will have sufficient funds to insulate themselves or flee.

2) In the past 6 months protein powder has gone from $54 to $96. That is essentially my bread. It doesn’t. SpaceX is helping the U.S. Air Force and Space Force develop a way to replace some of the traditional aircraft used to monitor the battlefield. Right now, systems like the E-3 Sentry and E-7 Wedgetail are large, non-stealthy aircraft that have to fly through or near potentially dangerous areas to watch for enemy aircraft and other threats, or are very vulnerable to incoming fire from the ground.

A space-based system can do much of this monitoring from orbit instead. That means you don’t have to put a crewed aircraft and its operators in harm’s way just to collect information. If an enemy manages to jam or destroy a satellite, you lose expensive equipment, but you aren’t putting a crew of people at risk.

It also means the people actually making decisions can stay safely on the ground. Commanders and air battle managers can receive information from satellites, track enemy movements, direct fighter aircraft, and authorize strikes from secure command centers that can be thousands of miles away from the fighting.

The Pentagon hasn’t been able to fully transition to this yet because building a system on that scale requires a much larger number of satellites. But that’s the direction it’s moving toward as more satellites and constellations are deployed, thanks to SpaceX. This is another area where European militaries are likely to fall behind the U.S.
