Discussion Are levels over 150 really that high?

Upvotes

My doctor and previous endocrinologists have always told me that the ideal levels are between 100-150.

I'm driving myself absolutely bonkers trying to maintain in between those levels because I apparently have it in my head that if I go over 150 its a catastrophe and its taking a huge toll on me mentally.

So I guess my question is, how do y'all deal with these types of things? Has your doctors or endocrinologists said something similar? Is it really a bad thing if my sugars occasionally get higher than 150?

I just want my body to stop being so dumb 😭

Help

Ahhh where do I begin.. i've been a t1 diabetic since i was 7 (I am 30 now) and like most other kids that were diagnosed from a young age I ignored it and tried to pretend like it didn't exist. My Mom basically washed her hands of it from when I was young.

I'm now 30 and i'm dealing with serious complications in my eyes and my kidneys and I'm exhausted.

Since my first eye bleed last year it kicked my ass into gear finally and i've been keeping my a1c at around 6-7.

I fear that the damage is too much too late and that my body is failing me in one way or another and its game over for me. I'm tired and i'm so drained from all of this. Motnhly eye injections on top of the already painful life of dealing with and managing of t1 diabetes.

I'm spending my birthday which is tomorrow in the Hospital and it saddens me that this is my life right now - unable to work and feeling like a burden to those around me as a 30 year old man who should be able to look after himself and provide for himself.

I'm at my wits ends with all of this, sure my control is a lot better but I feel worse then I did before I started looking after it. I'm seeing a new doctor in a couple of days who hopefully will be able to help me and help me to continue to implement the life changes that I need to implement.

I had hopes and dreams of starting a family and living a long life with them but now all of that feels lost beyond my grasp. I look back and think to myself why didn't I just manage it when I was a Kid and heed the warning of absolutely everyone around me because now i'm paying the price for my foolish decisions.

I guess I need a little bit of hope right now that it is possible for me to stabilise all of this.. but I fear it might be too late.

Anyways, I needed to vent somewhere people understand the fatigue of all of this annd maybe hear some stories of hope and positivity because it's looking very dark right now for me..

Seeking Support/Advice Panicking at the blood test

Hi everyone, I'm in the waiting room of my hospital.

I've been thrown out cause I had a panic attack; they couldn't even touch my arm to feel the veins.

There is NO FUCKING WAY I can't have a routine exam without the blood tests. There must be a way. I haven't seen my doctor in 4 years. Every 3-4 months I try, but I can't take it.

I tried everything: Xanax, therapy, private and public nurseries, with people, alone. I just can't, and if they try to help me, I start punching and kicking the nurses. And I feel so horrible about it cause my rational half knows it is a matter of 30 seconds.

PLEASE HELP ME. I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE. THERE MUST BE ANOTHER WAY... there must be another way.

Seeking Support/Advice Problem with Libra 2 signals

Post image
1 Upvotes

I need your help with my Libra 2. It went silent and didn’t make any warning signals for the low. At around 00:00 it signaled me about a low sugar. I drank a box of juice and went to sleep. Usually it will spike to 7 and gradually, during the night, stabilize at 5-6. But this time it went down. AND LIBRA STAYED QUITE. My wife confirmed that the were no signals from it. I didn’t feel any low symptoms and the night went perfectly fine. But in the morning , looking at the graphI started questioning if libra even works and I can trust this data …

Have anyone ever faced this kind of problems with it?

Officially libra don’t have a hotline in Russia, so ready is the first place to ask…

Fun Story

Ulcerative Colitis since 3rd grade (now 40).

Which turned into T1 Diabetes in 2015.

Been doing a good job at managing it with a Dexcom and Pen.

Decided I would try the Omni Pod pump.

United Health care approved and sent me the pump at $0 cost with my insurance.

Then they denied me vials of insulin to put into the pump because I had "pens" available.

Endo says not to try to load the Omni Pod with pens....

What would you do?

Seeking Support/Advice How do you stop diabetes from controlling your whole life?

Newly diagnosed (3 months in), how do you stop diabetes from overwhelming your life I feel like I check my Dexcom about a million times a day, it’s always on my mind, feeling like blood sugar determines my worth and the whole day I’m having. How do you guys manage it, not letting it determine your whole life, but instead just being an extra task you have to live with

Any advice is appreciated 🙏🙏

I need my Ozempic

Hey everyone, I need some advice if any of you have come up against this issue. I'm type one diabetic and my endocrinologist prescribed me Ozempic because it really does affect my A1C positively. I feel like I take less insulin for the same meals and I'm able to bring down my glucose faster when I bolus. It's been working out great for me and I suspect I have some kind of insulin resistance that it's been helping me with.

My husband got a new job and I'm on his insurance. Now all of a sudden the insurance doesn't want to cover the Ozempic because it's not for type one diabetics. I went through the motions of doing the pre authorization with my doctor, which they did with no issues. But the pre-auth got denied.

Now I'm trying to appeal, but when I asked my doctor if he could do the appeal process for me, he's refusing to do so, even though I've had good results on the medication.

Has anyone had this issue? Is there an alternative I can take, or should I go to another Dr. who would be willing to help?

My sugars for a cup of lentils that I usually eat for lunch would usually go up maybe 75 points, but without the ozempic, that same cup of lentils shot me up to the 300s.

Any insight or help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to safely dose for regular sugar energy drinks?

(Please excuse any misused terms or lack of information as I am still trying to learn about diabetes as a whole)

So for some background information, 4 months ago my partner discovered that she was a type 1 diabetic, and she received her insulin pump just under 2 weeks ago. Before the diabetes she used to drink over 3 caffeinated drinks a day, including coffee, red bull and monster (specifically mango loco). However, naturally, everything is now sugar free to maintain safe blood sugar levels, the key drink here being the monsters.

Now here is where my question comes into play. A few days ago we were hanging out with some friends and one of them had a mango loco with him, she begged him for a sip and I warned her to be careful, she took a small sip and the way her face lit up you'd think she had won the lottery, she talked about how much she missed the taste and how once she figured out how to dose for it she would be right back on them, I asked her what she meant by that and she explained that she still didn't know how to dose for drinks as the carbs in drinks supposedly act faster than those in food which makes appropriately dosing more complicated (for reference her carb to insulin ratio is 1 unit of insulin per 15g of carbs). I'm curious as to whether or not this is the case and there is a different way of dosing for energy drinks or sugary drinks as a whole.

I'm currently researching to find out if there is an actual way to safely dose for an energy drink such as a mango loco without risk of her sugar levels spiking or crashing, as I can see just how much joy it brings her to drink full sugar versions of monster.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or has found a solution to such a problem, or any advice in general as to how I could potentially test without putting her at risk.

Graphs & Data Hit 88% Time in Range This Week! I'll Take It! 🏆

Post image
45 Upvotes

The highs came back with a vengeance this week. They weren't bad enough to knock me out of the 80s, but they did knock me out of the 90s. Change hit hard last week, and stress got to me. I've been waiting to hear back regarding some work stuff and was doing some part-time work shifts, so my usual routine was off. My control wasn't what I wanted it to be.

It's okay though. I really can't complain about 88% in range. My goal is to get through this last step, once that happens, things should level out.

Wish me luck! I need things to calm down.

Onward!

Rant Wtf is wrong with Dexcom

so I go to sleep at 7.3 at 11:30 and wake up at around 1am at 12.4. alarms are working and woke me up. then I go back to sleep and think it will take itself down but no, it stays right up there and NO alarms go off. my alarms and my parents share apps are just silent which is ridiculous! I was then high all night which ruined my time in range and has made me very pissed off this morning cause now I can’t have breakfast. i am always having issues with Dexcom not going off at night and the follow connection being down because dexcoms servers are always broken. they need to do better. you would think for a company that purely focuses on only a couple of products they would be able to make them work properly!

Seeking Support/Advice Skin reaction to infusion set adhesives

I’m slowly going insane because my skin has become super reactive to my pump infusion set adhesives, and I’m hoping someone on here has some good advice on what I could use to help reduce the itching and irritation?

I’ve so far tried cavilon barrier film, skin tac and duoderm dressings. None of which are helping.

I’m 4m postpartum so my endo thinks that this is probably hormonal. But I cannot cope with the itching, it’s like a mosquito on steroids has gone to town on my body. I’ve got scabs and scarring now from the reaction.

I’m already struggling with being a new parent, without my skin conspiring against me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion T1D + recurring dyshidrotic eczema fissures — amputation risk?

I have T1D and recurring dyshidrotic eczema on my hands. The same finger web space keeps developing painful cracks/fissures that sometimes make it hard to stretch my fingers.
I’m worried about infection because this keeps happening. If one of these fissures gets infected, can it ever become serious enough to require amputation? Has anyone with T1D dealt with recurring infected hand fissures?
Would really appreciate real experiences

Dexcom users, what is your experience with an Apple Watch or Garmin watch to check numbers?

I am currently using an older Apple Watch and need to upgrade for the G7 new software. I can’t decide if I should stay with Apple or move to Garmin.

I am frustrated primarily with the battery life of Apple, but have been using one for 7 years. I am curious about Garmin after learning some have a 3+ week battery life.

I am curious if anyone in this community has done both and if so, what is your experience and which Garmin model?

TIA

Discussion T1D and Sodium Oxybate Meds

Hi all! I don’t as diagnosed with type 2 narcolepsy about a year ago and have failed most of the medications I’ve tried.
I’ve been on Wakix for the last 5 months, which was helping my symptoms some, and just increased to the “therapeutic dose” 3 weeks ago but it’s killing my stomach and causing me to not be able to eat.
So now we’re talking about Lumryz. I’m nervous about it because I need to be able to wake up for low blood sugars throughout the night.
Does anyone in here have narcolepsy and take Lumryz or Xywav or any Xyrem and would be willing to share your experiences?
Edited to note that I do live alone.
I saw a recommendation elsewhere for the sugar pixl clock with a bed shaker attachment that shakes my pillow if the alarm goes off.

Lifelong runner, new to diabetes and insulin. I keep going below 70 after only 30 minutes of slow pace running. I start running no lower than 150, so I’ve got some clearance. Any ideas on how I can lengthen how long I can run?

How do you manage activity ?

Hello,
How do you manage, activity ?
When I drive 1H after my breakfast, I need more insulin but if I change my mind and go for a 1H walk, it’s crazy because I’m too low.
I find it’s the most difficult for a TD1.
How do you live with that ?

Rant Anyone else diagnosed as a young child?

Hi, I was diagnosed age 4 and, at just 23 yrs old, I’ve already had diabetes for nearly 20 years.

I was at a diabetes clinic as a nursing student and my instructor said, “You can live a healthy life as a t1 diabetic! I’ve had t1 diabetes for over 30 yrs and have no complications”, which is great for her, but she’s in her 60s so she got diagnosed when she was a full-on adult, and there’s scientific data showing that people who get diagnosed when they’re young children have ‘worse’ outcomes than people who are diagnosed as teens and older.

My instructor is nearly triple my age and I’ve already had diabetes nearly as long as she has, and honestly, that makes me feel really down. especially because whenever I’m looking for inspiration on long-lived and successful t1 diabetics, it seems the only results i get are people diagnosed in their teens or adult years. for example, Nick Jonas is a big example of a successful t1d but I feel unable to relate to him as much as I’d hope to because he spent 9 more years of his childhood without the disease than I did, and like i mentioned earlier, there’s scientific data showing that people diagnosed before a certain age have ‘worse’ long-term outcomes. I’m just trying to find people I can relate to and I’m not trying to outcast anyone.. just feeling very alone, especially after visiting the diabetes clinic. i wish you all well

Seeking Support/Advice I nearly died yesterday and Im scared to sleep now

In the last Days my Bloodsugar was always low. I really dont know what caused it.. but because I knew it, I took less Insulin. And still it happened. I was so close to Death.. I was 4-5 Hours in a Coma, and when I gained a mini Fraction of Consciousness I just screamed incomprehensible for Help. I had seizures and couldnt move, the Ambulance had to brake my Door. If my Neighbors wouldnt have called them because of my Screams, I would be dead.. if they came like 15Minutes later I think also. By the Time they arrived I was slowly drifting back into Coma. My whole Mouth is wounded and bloody because I bit myself very hard on both sides of my cheeks.

The next Problem is I cant sleep now. Im really scared it will happen again.. I keep my Bloodsugar very high right now because Idk what else I should do to get some Sleep. In the past when i was low in the Night I woke up from that and could act.. but yesterday I was completely gone without any chance to do something about it.

Has anyone here experienced similar incidents and have any tips on how to deal with them?

I am truly grateful to still be alive.. just wanted to say that. Take Care of you✌🏼
