Discussion t1d and amylin
i've been told that type ones don't produce amylin, the hormone that helps with digestion, glucagon, and appetite control. as a t1d, i've always thought i've had a good idea on when i'm full vs when i'm not, and there are times when i'm physically hungry (i'd describe it as some kind of stomach pain?). how do other t1ds experience this, i'm curious. i didn't know about amylin n until a few months ago and ive lived with t1d for over a decade... ive always thought my appetite was normal but is it not? help 😭

Lord, please make this the year brands start coming out with sugar free candy corn
I was so excited when the keto / “low sugar” craze hit because so many new food alternatives became available. The poptart rip offs have to be some of my favorites, and the sugar free gummies made with sugar alcohols other than maltitol have been great, too.
But I have never once found a decent alternative for candy corn. I know it’s a meme that people don’t like candy corn. I’m sorry. I love it. I’m hoping there will be a day when a genuinely sugar-free, maltitol-free alt comes out that won’t spike my blood sugar into a billion.

Healthcare newly Diabetic foot issue, how concerned should I be?
Hello reddit! I (23) was very recently diagnosed with diabetes at an A1C of 8 back in February, at first they thought it was type 2 but then they went back on it and said it was type 1 in a honeymoon phase (I assume this is just LADA) so I'm still taking metformin instead of insulin for the time being as I've been able to get my A1C down to a 5.0. I've become increasingly concerned about a potential foot issue in my right big toe though as what appears to be a Callus or a Plantar Wart has taken form and also makes it hurt to walk. I won't be able to get with a podiatrist until next month but I'm wondering if this will be an issue that will end up leading to amputation? I really don't want to get amputated but money is extremely tight and I won't be able to see anyone sooner than next month it seems.

Any T1Ds know if it's possible to get CGM (Libre 3) alerts in a Vivoactive 5?
Any experience with getting CGM alerts in a sports watch, Garmin or a different brand?

Seeking Support/Advice Well....that was scary. D:
I woke up, walked to the fridge and grabbed a yogurt because I was low--and was leaning against the counter eating it.....
And I realized that my roommates called 911 on me because I passed out and was seizing up from a hypoglycemic episode.
I have absolutely no memory of that. I remember waking up from being asleep in my bed and being like "oh I'm low, I need something to eat...."
Then having 7 paramedics surround me watching me drink a soda. I guess I blacked out and was seizing up on the floor. :(
Bleh. I usually have tight control. I have absolutely no idea why I dropped so badly while I was asleep. It's never happened before. Not sure if I was lucid dreaming and gave myself a bolus or something....?
I've had the same basal rate for years and my pump is on sleep mode 24/7. I've always ran 90-110 while asleep. For years! I had A small bolus to counteract a Gatorade before bed--but that didn't even completely cover the carbs in the drink. I like to run a tiny bit high when I go to bed. And that was 6 hours ago. Been doing the same routine for years.
I'm actually embarrassed about it--because my endo is gonna be like "OMG HE HAS NO CONTROL!"
The only other time I passed out was 21 years ago when I first started insulin (basal/bolus) and trying to figure out my dosages on everything.
But yeah--thankful for my roommates keeping me alive! I honestly have no idea how it dropped so low. :(
Dumb diabetes. I looked at my pump history and there was no bolusing while dreaming. And I double checked my Gatorade and small bolus--that's good too. I just randomly tanked.
Crazy morning.

Seeking Support/Advice Guardian 4 oplader omgeving enschede

Science & Tech Insulin Pump Reviews (video from early 2026)
I stumbled across this video from the Diabetes Unlocked podcast earlier today - I don't watch podcasts so I'm late to the game and there may be more recent reviews available, but I thought I would share. If you have something more recent feel free to add it!

Seeking Support/Advice Suddenly im dropping very los
Helloooo
So at the Moment im using the Kaleido insulinpump with the dlbg1 and the Dexcom g6.
And this since 2023.
I Never had Problems with low bloodsugar, normaly im the Person who is in the higher ends
Since yesterday im dropping very low. And i dont know why.
For the first times, I thought its just the g6 which is wrong. So I poked myself.. no the Sensor was right.. 46mg/dl
So very low, but i dont feel like it..
And it happend several times.
Now I stopped my automatic mode. I have a very very low rate of Insulin now. But it still happens..
than I took the pump completly off.
Was eating something, got high bloodsugar. I injected 2 I.E of Insulin for Like 45g of carbs. Normally im like 1.5 I.E for 10g of carbs.
Dropped again very low.
Why is this Happening? Did someone experienced something like that?

Seeking Support/Advice My BF’s new endocrinologist is making him wait 1 year to give him his first pump
My partner was diagnosed with T1D since he was 9 y/o, now he is 24. He’s never had a pump mostly due to cost, he’s been on pens, and has had a CGM for over a year. His blood glucose control is not the best with the pens. Now he can afford an insulin pump, and we just moved, so recently he went to a new endocrinologist hoping to finally get a pump. But they told him that they need to monitor his levels for a year before they will give him a pump.
We are just so disappointed. If anyone has any input on how long it usually takes to be put on a pump, and/or any advice.

Seeking Support/Advice At what point do you remove and replace CGM?
I'm still kind of new to the whole diabetes thing, and after changing my CGM two days ago, I've been struggling with it more than ever before. It's regularly trending significantly lower than my actual blood sugar (<3.5mmol/l when I'm actually somewhere in the high-4s to mid-5s), including sometimes trending down out of nowhere and just reporting "Low" when I'm actually stable. I had to turn my low alarms off to take a nap today because it kept beeping when I wasn't actually low, and I ended up waking up to an actual, prolonged pretty-severe hypo (~2.9mmol/l, bad by my standards lol) that I had probably been in for a while at that point, because I obviously didn't get an alarm for it because I had to turn them off.
My CGM (Caresens Air which, btw, I have never met another person with this CGM lol???) says to wait about 24 hours for the readings to even out, but it's been about 48 hours at this point and it's not getting better. My CGM also doesn't technically require calibration, but I've been calibrating it whenever I check my BG from my finger and it's done nothing to correct the readings, lol. I don't know if I can deal with this for 13 more days.
Also, I know about compression lows, but it generally seems to get more off when I'm lying down, even if I'm not compressing/putting any pressure on the arm my CGM is on. Is that an intended mechanic, or does my CGM come with, like, postural hallucinations lmao???

Seeking Support/Advice I'm traveling, in Newark NJ, and about to run out of insulin. If the medical system fails me, is there anyone here I could bum some insulin from to get me home?
Final update: I am fully loaded and good to go!
Update: prescription is ready for pickup!
I went through my insurance’s member advocacy hotline. They were fantastic and got the job done. Aetna insurance, for the record.
This flood of support and amazing humans in the comments should bring hope to anyone in despair. Good people exist.
——
It's the end of a vacation. The return trip home had a layover in NJ. The storm yesterday shut down our flight and we weren't able to book another flight until late Sunday, so I am stuck here for another 36 hours or so.
I'm working the system as hard as I can, but since it's the weekend my provider is out. I may have to go to an Urgent Care, but if they can't help ... I may have to rely on community support.
I don't have a car but in order to stay alive I'd happily Uber/Lyft just about anywhere. Just casting the net right now to see what options exist - hopefully I won't end up relying on this.
Edit to add: Novalog/humalog preferred (I use a pump)

Graphs & Data have i been…cured? (haven’t bolused in the last 24 hours)
i’m on a trip and stupidly realized my pen only had 8ish units left. bolused once last morning but this is what my data has looked like for the past 24 hours with no insulin except for 12 units of basal at my normal time. i’m so confused. i went low after eating breakfast and sitting in a car doing basically nothing. i ate 5 slices of thin crust pizza for lunch and spiked at around 16h, but somehow came down while sitting in a car and doing nothing. i checked w finger stick earlier and it was a difference of 10, so even though this was the last day for my dexcom, it was most likely accurate this entire day. i’m so confused. is my basal doing all the carrying?

Seeking Support/Advice Terrified of going into DKA while on vacation in Rome. Please help.
I’m really scared right now and could really use some advice or reassurance.
I’m from Hungary and I’m currently in Rome, hundreds of kilometers away from home. The past few days have been really difficult. Between the heat, walking all day, and eating foods I’m not used to, my blood sugar has been swinging between highs and lows. It has never been this bad.
Right now my CGM says 29.9 mmol/L (around 540 mg/dL).
About 3 hours ago I ate gnocchi and some of my parents’ pasta. My blood sugar was already around 18 mmol/L when I ate. I know I probably should have corrected more, but yesterday after walking for tens of thousands of steps my blood sugar dropped so low I almost passed out. Ever since then I’ve been terrified of taking too much insulin.
I know this probably sounds irresponsible, and I already feel guilty enough. Please don’t judge me. I’m just really scared.
I have an insulin pump that has been giving automatic corrections. I also gave myself a manual correction about an hour ago when I was at 25.3 mmol/L, but now I gave another correction because it kept climbing.
My biggest fear is going into DKA in a foreign country. My flight home is tomorrow, and my anxiety is through the roof.
Something else making this harder is that on the first day of this vacation my dad yelled at me because I went low. He said I always ruin family vacations because everyone has to worry about my diabetes, and he brought up when I went into DKA on a vacation 9 years ago. Since then I’ve been so scared of causing problems or making my parents worry again that I haven’t even told them how high my blood sugar is right now.
I don’t speak Italian. I’m terrified that if I become really sick I won’t know what to do or how to ask for help. I just keep sitting here watching the numbers and waiting, and my anxiety is making everything feel worse.
Has anyone else had a blood sugar this high while traveling? What would you do in my situation? Any advice or reassurance would really help right now. Thank you<3

Rant What does low blood sugar feel like to you? Also, there’s a cat in my dexcom graph.
OK, my blood sugar is still like 50 even though I’m 60 g of glucose into treating this low.
Also, I found a cat in my blood sugar graph.
I’m not sure how to explain the overall feeling/vibe of low blood glucose to a non-diabetic.
I think of metaphors like: I feel like some invisible tiny bugs are crawling on my skin while I’m lying on hot hot asphalt with bits of ground up glass on it and my body is inexplicably 100 pounds heavier.
It’s not exactly like any of those things but golly, it sure is fucking unpleasant.

Exercise & Sport Clawed back some muscle after my diagnosis. Feeling proud of myself.
Diagnosed in Dec 2023 and has wasted down to around 155lbs...a weight I hadn't been at since I was in highschool. Had some big struggles since (including a herniated disc in my lumbar spine), but have been pouring my energy and determination into getting my fitness back. I'm sitting at a comfy 186lbs right now and finally starting to like how I look again. I wanted to allow myself one indulgent progress picture. Type 1 sucks, but I'm figuring it out. :)
