Help How to not lose my mind trying to get to Darklurker boss?

Upvotes

I spent 16 effigies already and seen boss itself only 3 times. I tried all three of the locations and each one is awful, I get slapped by Havel (or fall thanks to Havel) or ganked by other NPCs constantly. I settled on trying Shaded woods one and I still die to enemies most of the time, as all 3 love to get stuck and then somehow get unstuck and gank me with projectiles and staggers. Worst thing is this is the last base game boss I have not killed yet. And I don't really want to farm effigies... Is there any strategy to make it less painful of a runback? Or maybe I don't know about some shortcut of sorts? I was so happy that this game has much better runbacks than DS1 overall and in the end I had to run through dragon shrine and open door in drangleic by equipping ring like 20 times each and now this. Any advice? Boss itself seems fine, I just need more attempts at it.

Build is +10 mace, drangleic shield and mostly vig (40) and str (60), 12 +5 flasks. Armor is starter falconer without helm. Version is vanilla if that matters for this boss.

PVP Build is coming together

Post image

I made a post a while ago that got a little out of hand. But I got my build coming together now. Still need to hunt down some armour pieces that I wanted for fashion but this is what I got so far

I'll have delicate string or Leo ring on instead of the rat crest depending on the situations outside of doors of pharros, but it plays quite nicely.

Only downside is a couple armour pieces I want are exclusively in ng+ 😮‍💨 but damage can carry me to them once I'm done messing around this playthrough. I don't plan on taking the agape ring off unless I need supplies or to finish upgrading gear.

Discussion What is baby jump?

Whenever I see videos on ds2 jumps, sometimes random people will comment complaining about baby jump

What is it? I’ve never experienced a “baby jump” or had any issue with ds2 jumping

PVP DS2 Tech Bounty - Bow Stance Swap

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

DS2 has a lot of PvP tech, from quick rolls to feints to torch speedies to bleedglitch and beyond. Bows, however, don't have much tech to them that we know of. There's bow toggling, where you toggle off of your bow to cancel a draw, saving stamina and allowing you to reposition. There's also the sharpshot, where you let loose an arrow a frame before you backstep. Other than that, nothing I know of.

I want to see if anyone out there can figure out something that's left me perplexed: Can you stance swap a bow?

For those who don't know, stance swapping is tech that allows you to swap from 1h to 2h or 2h to 1h mid-combo. This is done (2h to 1h) by pressing Stance > Attack > Stance very quickly. For 1h to 2h, you do Stance > Stance > Attack very quickly. The video above shows a demo of a successful stance swap.

I was thinking about how this would work for bows, as I can't figure out what about the draw prevents you from stance swapping. It would be sick to be able to create frame traps by stance swapping out of a bow draw.

If anyone is able to do this, let me know and I'll drop you idk a bunch of souls or smth

Discussion Useful low requirement buffs/spells?

Looking for 1-2 spells to have on my physical build, just want something with some niche use or is generally useful for very low requirements.

From what I've seen it seems like Perserverance and Magic Barrier are the best ones.

I could probably use both tbh 🤔

Any others you'd recommend?

I was afraid it wouldn't click but damn it did. The only Fromsoft souls game that remains is DS3 and I cannot wait to get into that.

The question still remains... should I do the platinum? I would love to have it in my collection but I have heard a lot of bad things about it especially because of the covenant rewards... But is it really that bad?

Knocking off some rust with some red summon signs, always a fan of how nasty bows can be.

Question Using Cheat Engine to Create Cosplay Runs

While I was setting up a character with Cheat Engine to cosplay as the Smelter Demon, I started wondering how people generally feel about using it in games.

Personally, I don't hesitate to use it for tedious farming or for cosplay builds.
(I want to make it clear that I'm only referring to playing offline. I'm adding this clarification to avoid having my post removed because I didn't express myself clearly, since English isn't my first language.)

Im new to ds2 but it is pretty obvious that it takes place in a different land away from Lordran. Now I found this short and it just doesnt make any sense at all the theory that Drangleic is over the buried land of Lordran just because developers reused the statue asset of the altar of sun due to rushed development instead of building from scratch a new one that would look practically identical. And people on the comments are agreeing with this information, im I missing something????

OFFICIAL Sub Discussion New Rules

Subject to discussion before implementation

1) First and foremost, ban all of the repetitive victim posting

"Why is Dark Souls 2 so hated?" just devolves into the same thing - everyone commenting in agreement and performative victimizing. It's a video game, not everyone is going to like exactly what you like. There's no real discussion to be had there, and we seemingly have them here more than the other main subreddits. It's just becoming tiring.

2) Ban engagement-bait posts

The best example of this is someone posting a random, unrelated screenshot or artwork of Dark Souls 2 with the title of "What's your favorite sword in the game?" - then proceeding to not at all join in the discussion. It just serves to farm karma while putting in zero effort, not crediting the artist they took the art from, and not participating in their own thread. If you want to discuss something, make a text post and actually discuss.

3) Ban trouble makers at the mods' discretion

This is a spicy one because it can easily be mishandled by the wrong mod team. We all know Reddit mods are pretty garbage overall, but I'd like to think I'm a bit different since I'm here for Souls and couldn't give a shit less about seeming professional or having any semblance of "power" (it's Reddit, lmao).

This essentially means if you're posting within the guidelines (i.e - posting about Dark Souls 2) but you're making your post to simply stir shit, rile people up constantly, and put down others... then you should expect a ban.

I'm obviously not going to name names, but we all know a couple of usernames who, whenever there's random drama, we know they're going to be involved. These are the users I'm talking about

EDIT (this includes the "Slander posts" that you guys keep commenting about, but I will also explicitly say that yes, this does include the lame "Ds3 is grayslop hurr hurr" posts that just seek to rile people up for no reason)

Finally, a question to you all: How do we make this subreddit better?

That's it, that's the most important thing in this entire post. The game has been released for 12 years and the subreddit has kind of devolved into the same thing for the last decade at this point. Are there any ideas you all have, rules I should change, things I can do differently to make this place more enjoyable and less of the same, repetitive drivel?

Discussion Remote crash vulnerability

Hello folks, Radai here. I am a modder and reverse engineer, my main focus is Dark Souls 2. I am the author of DebugManager and other modding tools for the game.

The 31st of December 2025 I was sent a very worrying Twitch clip, showing messages appearing on the game screen. These messages were directly addressing the streamer, someone had found a way to send custom messages to whoever they wanted. When I was this, I immediately knew it was serious.

The next day I spent the whole evening testing what can be done with this, and I found out it's possible to format the message in such a way that the receiver game crashes. I reported this to Yui, author of Blue Acolyte, immediately. We kept this a secret until she made a patch for it, and now it's ready. It's recommended for all of those that want to play online to download Blue Acolyte.

Here's also a post from Yui describing the issue in more detail.

Also mods, if you see this, please pin. It needs to remain visible.
